    Is there a good way to get the shoulders aligned, I feel like some others might that it is hard to see/feel if the shoulders are also aligned. They get too open to my target if I am not focused on them.

      Yes, place the club across your shoulders. When you look down the shaft it should appear as though you are pointed left of your target. The longer the club you are using, the further left you would feel like you are pointed👍

    Good Drills. I have also seen a drill where they take band and put it around the body and the right arm. Is this the same type of drill to keep that right elbow from flying out? What does the glove under the right arm pit work on? I have seen Tiger do this drill.

    On full shots...the Split Grip allows my right hand to control the clubface through impact...to either turn the club over and draw the ball or hold on and fade the ball. It's magical how the Split Grip allow you to work the ball. Here's another benefit everyone...use the Split Grip around the green. Oh my gosh...the Split Grip makes the Flop Shot soooo easy...just slide that right hand rapidly under the ball while maintaining that open face...and that ball shoots up like a rocket. And when chipping...at impact...add a little right hand release...to get the ball to run to the cup...which is the secret to all great chippers. When possible...always plan to have some run-out with the majority of your shots around the green...for the ball to always release quit a bit to the hole. Billy Casper taught this concept to Seve..and Seve taught this concept to Tiger. Watch Tiger hit sand shots...there is always a release...a run out with the ball. Seve's bunker shots always had release. I'm just saying...with the Split Grip...it's so much easier to create this release to the ball or a hold-block-fade action through impact. Play 2 weeks with the Split Grip. I really believe you'll lower your score...and have more fun shaping your shots like Bubba.

When I use this drill , I thought to I use my chest (sternum) in backswing and in forward swing so that I can rotate more with pelvis of course..Should the chest stay more down to the impact ? It's my understanding that club path dictates the initial ball direction, while face angle tends to influence the spin. So the draw consists of an in-out path combined with a closed slightly face. You're my coach, what did I miss?

    Hey, Jeff - just wondering what's a good way for a senior golfer to create more clubhead speed without putting more strain on your back? John

    • @jeffcaminiti162
      @jeffcaminiti162 4 роки тому

      Hey John, great question. And definitely a common question I get. Honestly there are a number of things someone needs to do. 1. It's really important to find some exercises you can do to strengthen the core muscles and the legs. Also exercises that help you stay flexible. 2. Using momentum of the club instead of trying to muscle it. To do this the body needs freedom to move. I hear golfers say this cliche all the time..."keep your head down". Unfortunately that limits rotation and freedom of movement. Without freedom of movement in the body, the golfer won't be able to utilize the momentum of the club.

    Great video, Jeff. Do you teach that the initial motion of a slap shot in hockey is what the start of a good downswing in golf feels like? Or, is this slap shot feeling something that can be overdone? I'd also like to see a video to hear your thoughts on any similarities between a slap shot in hockey and a release in the golf swing. For example, when I separate my hands to rehearse a slap shot I notice that my left shoulder lifts back and up through impact, which brings the handle of the golf club up through impact. Is this a feeling to pay attention to in the golf swing? Quite a few hockey players are good golfers so it's a good topic.. Thanks

    • @jeffcaminiti162
      @jeffcaminiti162 4 роки тому

      Thanks for the comment Brian. As I have seen a lot of players try to stop coming over the top, I see them drop that right shoulder and early extend. While this does indeed shallow the plane it compromises the ability to control your low point of the swing causing players to hit fat. I think that “over the top” can be misunderstood. If the club is on plane while the body is able to rotate, yes the left shoulder will raise while the body is able to extend. The handle of the club then moves up and to the left (for a RH player). Essentially there is a right way to shallow the club and wrong way. And the slap shot is gets the body moving in the right way👍

  • @333pg333
    @333pg333 4 роки тому

    The basic premise of your discussion may be valid and there may be a debate, but some of it is ill founded and based on incorrect thinking. e.g. where you describe Tiger's swing issues from the early 2000's. What you showed was early extension of the right hip, knee and foot. This move is a score killer...ask me how I know. But let's take what is currently fashionable in teaching which is very lower half dominant. e.g. GG's move where he instructs his pupils to start the downswing by swivelling the left hip/leg counter clockwise and in turn shallowing the hands/arms. This is very different to early extension yet is lower half dominant. So it gets a little vague when merely saying Arms vs Legs. Conversely, say another coach with initials MB who recommends throwing the club down to start the swing. This would seem counterintuitive to most amateur golfers who cast the club too early losing lag and decelerating into impact. Yet, interestingly, if you try this drill, it does seem to work. However you also will note that it's not just the arms that are moving. The rest of the body of course moves in sync. Quite possibly the legs may even start to move at the same time or earlier than the arms. So often 'feels' don't equal 'actuals'.

    • @jeffcaminiti162
      @jeffcaminiti162 4 роки тому

      Thank you for your response. Very well thought out. You are absolutely right about "feels vs. reals." I see this on the lesson tee all the time. Many times a golfer feels like they are doing something and they look at themselves on camera, and it's quite the opposite. At the end of the day, it's all helping each individual sequence their swing properly. And in my 20 years of experience teaching, wow is everybody different. I agree, it can be vague when talking just about upper vs. lower. Tiger had an early extension issue. I wasn't there to listen to him and Butch in their lessons, but it seems like Butch had him try to "feel" like he was starting down with his arms. MB might have agreed with that approach. GG on the other hand might have said, "no Tiger, you can still start with your lower body, but we need to help you feel your pressure going down, instead of lateral. Your left hip shoots up and out instead of staying level. Both teachers could have helped, it would just depend on what Tiger understood or liked the feel of better. Great discussion, and thanks so much for you comment.

    Good stuff Jeff! I have a feeling a lot of my issues (and there are many) are due to swinging faster than I should. I usually make my best contact when I'm trying to hit a club 80% and I slow things down. Now I'm going to go down a youtube rabbit hole and watch videos of Freddy Couples swing. Els has a beautiful swing too, but Freddy......

    • @jeffcaminiti162
      @jeffcaminiti162 4 роки тому

      Jeff, thanks for your comment! I would say that most golfers will resonate with the 80%. Jack Nicklaus actually said the same thing. I don’t know if I have ever come across a golfer who hits the ball at their best when they swing “all out.” Just remember good tempo can still be fast. Remember the other examples of Rickie Fowler and Brandt Snedeker.

    Thanks for the video, Jeff. Seems like a great way to warm up before heading to the first tee. A couple of questions: 1) Does the same 3-to-1 tempo apply through the bag (i.e., driver thru wedge)? and 2) Can this same concept of 3-to-1 tempo be applied to putting?

    • @jeffcaminiti162
      @jeffcaminiti162 4 роки тому

      Hey Brian, this is a phenomenal way to warm up and get yourself into the groove for the round. This tempo is great for every club in the bag. Whether it's a wedge or a driver. This doesn't mean that you aren't swinging fast. Good tempo will help the sequencing of your swing which makes your swing more efficient. The tempo app actually has a specific 2:1 ratio for putting, it's really cool!

      One drill you could do to start the feel with the legs, is to start the swing with the feet together, at the top of the swing, take a small step with the lead foot toward the target 🎯 to initiate the downswing, then you can keep your arms passive in transition.

    Thought provoking vid. As you say, there is no one size fits all when it comes to the golf swing. For the longest time I've tried getting my hips through first but it never felt natural or comfortable. About a month before the snow hit here in GR, I read a tip about turning the trunk (not shoulders) of your body to initiate the transition of the arms and lower body. Get the trunk moving and everything else has to follow. So far it has worked for me but time will tell. Keep up with the videos Jeff they are very informative. BobbyMac

    • @jeffcaminiti162
      @jeffcaminiti162 4 роки тому

      Thanks for the feedback Bob! I appreciate your comments. Very interesting about getting the trunk going first. I do think that a lot of people have struggled with the idea of trying to move the hips first. That's really what I wanted to communicate in the first video was the idea or feeling of "heaving" something. I think that's more of a natural feeling instead of "bumping the hips" or other things I've heard along those lines. Keep grinding Bob! This game is an endless journey that is so much fun to continue down the road of improvement!!

    There's no one size fits all. I like where you're going. What are the top 3 swing faults you see on the lesson tee?

    • @jeffcaminiti162
      @jeffcaminiti162 4 роки тому

      You're right Brian, no one size fits all, every player has to discover their own matchups. I would say the top 3 faults I see from most amateurs would be: 1. A poor takeaway, either flipping the club inside to much or disconnecting the arms from the body 2. A poor transition. The beginning of the downswing is so important because after that the rest of the swing happens so fast. 3. A poor perception of tempo. Amateurs have been told to slow their swings down so much. They slow their backswings down to much and then their transition is quick and jerky ruining their tempo. Great questions Brian!

      Thanks for the kind words Nick! Great to watch your game improve over the years as you have gotten a better understanding of not just your swing, but the game as a whole!

    Jeff - from squatting and hitting the ball, it would almost seem as though it would be inviting a "fat" shot as the club would almost have to come in lower, would it not? John

      Well, that’s a great question! What actually will happen when you create ground pressure by squatting , it’s similar to a jumping motion. To jump up, first you have to bend down to create pressure. From a squatted position, equal and opposite reaction takes place to extend up through impact, which in turn will help control low point of the swing.

    Hi, Jeff - Great site! I have added to the club path & face alignment to making sure of my shoulder alignment as well. I'm generally pretty straight if I get that setup correct! Thanks! John

      John, you are absolutely right! Shoulder alignment plays a vital role in determining our club path. One more thing to consider is that ball position is a huge factor of shoulder alignment. Often I see people put the ball way to forward in their stance creating open shoulders which leads to a path that is outside to in.👍

      Thanks John! Setup is such a crucial part of the swing. I’ve seen golf swings change drastically just from helping someone with their setup. Keep up the good work💪

    Thanks, Jeff. Would this drill be a remedy for early extension in the downswing?

      Hey Brian, yes this will be a direct reflection into whether or not someone EE. The early extension is caused as a result of improper movement in the transition.
