The starting # of chains depends on the weight of your yarn, the size of the hook you are using, your tension, and the size of the blanket you want. If you look up 'blanket sizes' on Google, this will give you the measurements recommended in inches. When it comes to calculating the # of stitches you will need, it's always helpful to look at the recommended swatch size on the label of your yarn. The yarn label will tell you how many stitches and rows SHOULD be in that area. I am not a professional, just another crochet hobbyist making projects for myself. This blanket was made for my own personal collection, so I did not find it necessary to measure to a specific size. This was just for fun!

It will depend on the weight of yarn you're using, but I believe a twin size blanket is about 66" wide. When you work on your chain, I'd make it about 66". Then when you come back for the first row, double-check your measurement just in case your stitches made it a little wider. It's a little bit of trial and error!

@@angeldawn definitely! I already made my chain and first row in a neutral color just to check and I think it’s perfect. Im using Impeccable yarn size 4, and I made around 245 chains. It hangs over both sides of my bed so I think it’ll be pretty good! Im so excited to actually start in January

For sure! I think a lot about creating and crafting is about enjoyment and actually liking the finished project, so I do try to take time to really experience it while making. But also try not to feel too guilty if I end up not finishing!

yes, i think that would definitely work! If you're unsure, it could also be good to make a mini-swatch with a row for each color. that way you can see how they look together.

you can start it anytime! If you make one for a previous year, you'll just need to look up the temps for past dates. :)
