This is a mini-documentary whose post-production has been significantly delayed. One of the main subjects experienced health issues, which prevented the completion of all planned filming. As a result, the ending may feel somewhat abrupt. I apologize for this. Special thanks to Yoshi & Theresa for their trust, and to Josh Ma from HAX GEAR for his coordination and co-production.

This is my 2nd roll of #kodakportra400 I shot the first roll at 200 iso, everything turned out neutral, and I was trying to shot at box speed 400 iso, to get a moodier sunset look out of it.... The hard lesson learned, I think I will never shot at box speed during golden hours, underexposed and muddy shadows,,,,, I'd rather to overexposed it then pull down the highlights in post since portra 40...

Took Blazar Nero 1.5x adapter on a hike, and so far I am loving the small form factor it has to offer in terms of image quality. Thanks! I rate the film at 200 speed, and exposed for the shadow, so they are more than 1 stop over exposed.

Thank you for the comment, that means a lot to me. Q3 is a very nice camera, I just don’t like it only because of the fixed lens though that 28lux(25mmish true focal length) is very nice.
@@thatsamuellu what lens did you use with your m6? What intrigues me is the different feel of the output of film compared to digital.
@@23wewee I use 35cron and 28 Elmarit. Yes film definitely has a unique look that digital can’t quite replicate.

Been shooting commercial for 9 years and shoot ultramax along side Portra 400. It’s only the UA-cam “photographers” who hype up gold 200. Clients don’t sit there and look at the differences between film stocks. They just want good product and emotion. The Ultramax blue, red and gold tones in combination are just bliss. I hope people spend their limited time on this earth to go out and shoot and enjoy the art and process rather than basing their choices on hype. Thanks for spitting facts 👏🏽
I like your photos and your compositions. People edit their stuff a lot. Even the greatest photographers they've shot thousands of rolls and we always see their very best work, which is a small percentage. Cartier Bresson said in one of his interviews that it takes a long time and many photos to get a good one. What i like about your approach is that instead of talking gear and theory you are taking photos.
Thanks for this well thought out comment! That is exactly the purpose I’m doing this, it is not about to make a photo that will exhibit in the gallery of MoMa, it is about pressing the shutter, and enjoying every moment of taking photos.

Nice footage Samuel! I'm really digging the Nero look. Did you use an external monitor to desqueeze the image or did you manage to frame and focus looking at the squeezed footage in-camera? Would that be too hard? Because I appreciate the compactness and weight and the mandatory need of an external monitor would kind of defeat the purpose for me. Thanks!
Actually I shot this video w/o an external monitor, because I want it to be compact for hiking, it is indeed harder than with a monitor like my SmallHDs but still manageable since cameras do have some focus assist tools. But I would definitely have monitors for any anamorphic professional works to eliminate any errors.

Thank you so much! Leica cameras are not special in terms of the image quality, they are just shutter box like all other 35mm cameras, but lenses do play a role. I use Leica simply because of its ergonomics and less friction.

Lovely shots, also an interesting way to see SF from your perspective instead of the usual news perspective. But is it truly dangerous to walk around with a Leica in SF?
Thank you. Thieves are more alert to bigger camera sets, like tourists. There are some local street photographers in SF take their Leicas everywhere except Palace of Fine Arts according to what I know that’s the hottest spot for thieves and brigands.
Jeez you need to do something about the wind noise on your mics, it's really hard to watch this video due to the sound

Painful video. Your compositions and timing need some work. I’d suggest doing some watching and reading. Your desire for some reason for long street shots don’t work. Your vertical shots don’t work either. You don’t need a rangefinder for what you’re doing.

It is indeed. I have ten rolls of Ultramax 400 in the fridge, the best film by far for Northern European cities.
Very versatile film stock.
200 iso at golden hours isn't too low ?
I wanted to shoot wider aperture. But yes. Most of my shots are underexposed.

Hallo, I came across the video by chance. Great photos. Do you expose the UltraMax400 to ASA 200? Do you develop it yourself or in the laboratory? Best wishes!
First of all thank for watching my video and commenting. I appreciate it! I rate at iso 200 to have one extra stop of exposure, but i also slightly over exposed another stop or half depending on the complexity of the scene. So usually I over expose 1.5 or 2 stops. I develop at a local lab.

@@wojt4spes yes. I scan at a local lab. But it might subject to change. I bought a negative supply scan kit to use my Sony a7rv to scan all the negatives.
