I love gunlance and I love this fight. Since you asked for advice, some notes for gunlance and this fight. - Your shield can block every single attack Rey Dau can throw at you, abuse it to keep from being moved out of position. In the whole beta believe there were only two attacks that couldn't be blocked, the Balahara sand pit and the Doshugama attack where he flips up the ground. - For short distance repositioning we can now use a moving shell attack into a wide sweep, just spam those two things to get where you need to go. - Speaking of those two attacks, it's a much faster way to get into the double shelling into wyvernstake attacks than the lift up into slam that you've been doing, which is the combo for full burst. That combo already takes ages and isn't a DPS gain over the full burst combo unless you get both shelling attacks and a wyvernstake off at least, preferably both wyvernstakes. Don't make it even longer by doing that long slow combo beginning. - Speaking of full burst, don't hesitate to use it. It's still great for shorter windows where the monster isn't happily presenting to you for the double shell into wyvernstake attack. We even get a faster full burst combo these days, where you can do a short hop instead of the horizontal slash to get back into full bursting. You're already using it with perfect guard, which is good. - For both full burst and the double shell into wyvernstake, you can use focus mode to reposition your big attack so it always points where you want it to go. I can find myself abusing focus mode so much I forget to turn it off. It's a prime tool. - Never use the big wyvernblast out of combo except as a wakeup attack. When it's used in a combo, it can come out much faster but still do the same damage. You can even use two in a row now. Use it in very big windows after you do the double shell into wyvernstake attack. - For longer distance repositioning, rather than putting away the gunlance and running around, it's actually safer to call your Seikret and stay in guard until it swoops in to pick you up. Last place you ever want to be is on foot far from the monster. With gunlance you can just hug most monsters to death.

You can do focus attacks mid air to reach for wounds higher up on the monster. After launching yourself via charge attack, last hit of perfect rush combo, etc.. while in mid-air, focus aim and focus attack the wound. side note: Make use of gyro controls. If you are using a controller and the game requires you to aim for things, this will be a game changer is every single game you play, Try to land as much attacks from the end of combos. alot's of Sword and Shieldss last hit have high motion values (strong dmg). Learn most if not all the combo paths SnS has. There is many diverging combo options and each one can be better in different situations. Learn how to do backhops to cancel your attacks and do instant backhops on command. This is the original foresight slash. Backhops help dodge attacks with it's lengthy s and helps counter attack the monster, to keep up the damage better than just rolling. You can use items and drink potions while your weapon is drawn by holding guard and the item use button. To shoot flashbombs while your weapon out: Hold the focus aim and press R3 (press the right analog down). Use gyro for an easier time. Do draw attacks (or advancing slash) towards a ledge to do a special ledge attack. You can also draw attack below and towards the ledge and it will do and upward aerial attack. This helps rack alot of mount damage and makes ledges less bothersome.
