ENSEMBLE VIVANT performs Waltz of the Flowers by Tchaikovsky
The Waltz of The Flowers is one of many delightful highlights in the ballet The Nutcracker, a Christmas Eve fantasy which was written in 1892 by Peter Tchaikovsky, perhaps Russia’s best-known composer. In the concluding part of the ballet, young Clara imagines that a toy nutcracker in the form of a soldier has come to life as a prince, and she is transported with the prince to the Land of Candy, where the Christmas candies have come to life. The candies, now fairy-like dancers, celebrate Clara and her prince in The Waltz of The Flowers. This beloved piece has been featured in films, including in Walt Disney’s 1940 animated classic Fantasia. It was arranged for Ensemble Vivant by composer, conductor, producer Claudio Vena.

Sounds pretty impressive for someone accustomed to writing miniatures. It's not a long piece altogether, and being further divided into three sections, it works well for what it is. The orchestration is varied, and is perfectly appropriate for the style. I don't see what was felt to be wrong with it.

Oh that was amazing, that was just amazing!
Enjoyed! And it's my favorite Scott Joplin song.
The elitist snobs despise approachable, beautiful music. And in C major, no less! I only began hearing this in the '90s on the local classical station and wondered why I had never encountered it in my youth--I'd been listening to classical music since the early '70s. Never knew it had been ignored until the '80s. I can't get enough of this piece--wish it would go on and on.
You know, I always wonder about those "elitist snobs" --the perfect name for them, by the way--I often think that they wrote so disparagingly about not only Leroy Anderson, but also about other popular composers who were strong melodists, for one simple reason: jealousy. Anderson's compositions have made people all over the world happy just to hear them. How many of those carping critics could say the same?
So Very Modern American - In Many Forms he splashes into Lifes and Styles - I have listened to this more than any other piece. He is unashamedly Bold and a non-conformist poking the old guard in the eye. Also frivolous at times - So What!
