How to Maintain Training through difficult times
I will expand on your comments from a much wider point of view. My fitness journey begun 4 years ago with just walking for 30 minutes 4 times a week. It took me 3 months to get up to be able to do a moderately brisk walk for 2 or 3 miles. In 6 months, I have built up to walking 3 days straight with 1 recovery day. The 3 days were an easy, moderate and hard intensity day. My distance had increased to doing 15 - 20 mile hard days over 5 - 6 hours. This slow build up of my walking workouts built up my leg and core strength. I eventually added a 20 pound back pack to my walks/hikes. After 9 months of strengthening my entire body and losing 20 lbs, i felt like my joints were finally at the place where I could begun running. My first run was a slow jog that went for 3 miles. I was amazed at hoe easy it felt. I had aerobic capacity from all that brisk hiking over long distances, I had strong joints and tendons able to withstand the forces being placed on my joints. My worst fear when I started was that walking every day with built in recovery days would not really make a difference, yet how wrong I was. From mobility, flexibility, strengthening of every muscle group and my posture has been dramatic. I have built muscle and lost fat. I feel great and it’s all become a lifestyle born out of the walking habit. This summer I will be doing my first ultra a 50k. 4 years ago I had a heart attack from not taking very good care of my health or fitness. Add to that I have poor genetics when it comes to heart disease and diabetes. WALKING everyday and pushing the limits of how far I could go in a days walk or hike has transformed my health and my outcomes. The only sad part is I’m finding I need to make new friends and thats not so easy, it’s difficult to integrate into any group as a 55 year old black man. Not that many of us out on the trails yet to be included in the trail running insiders communities. The good thing is I would be out there any way so who cares about them.

You totally should - they are so fun! I have done many triathlons. I did a bunch of 5K runs before I transitioned to triathlon. I absolutely LOVE swimming in the ocean.

Hi Corey! Thanks for subscribing to my channel. I have done many triathlons, but that particular suit is a thermal suit that I wear during cold weather swimming. Are you a triathlete or cold water swimmer?
