And make it clear that in this context we’re not dividing numbers of infinite value (actual infinity), instead we are dividing finite real numbers that are arbitrarily large (potential infinity and again Btw, I think there is one context in math where you can get an answer for ∞/∞ where you are actually using numbers of infinite value (actual infinity). However, I’m not sure at all about this, so please someone correct me if I’m wrong. If we use Surreal Numbers, then ω would fit the notion of ∞. And if we remember that in essence division is a multiplication by a multiplicative inverse, then we could write ω/ω as ω(ω-1 ), and ω-1 is ε. And ω×ε = 1. So in this context, we could say that “∞/∞” equals 1. (Again, someone that knows more about surreals than me correct me if I’m wrong, thanks) and again The TL;DR of this is that we make up the rules depending on how convenient it is for the domain of math we’re in. Infinity is not the only case where this happens.
