    SO FUNNY! The only advantage is not for the plumber but for someone scrimping by and not knowing what he's going to cut. Pipe, tubing, and what size. And so it's one tool for the lot and range. For that it's "quite nice!"

    As already commented by alphabuilders, 2 cells per column (possibly D cells although there have been other close sizes), total 12 cells x 1.2V per cell = 14.4V. Do you have a bench power supply you could feed the tool from? Also, what can you read across the battery pack with a multimeter? I'd like to know how much the weak performance is due to batteries., worn motor, or slack mechanism. By the way, the longer hair looks great, really suits you. 🤟

      Iv got a 14.4v lxt battery of the production line drill driver what if I cobbled some wires together and ran the impact that way? I don’t have a bench power supply I’m afraid but I do have a multi meter to test the cells, I still can’t work out how much amps the remote battery pack has!, in my head it’s got a good amp number so it could be used allot without recharging but I’m afraid iv got brain fog at the moment 😔

    The battery has 2 cells stacked on top of each other in each of the 6 brown paper rolls. NI-cd cells are always 1.2v each, the chemistry is just like that. 14.4v needs 12 cells in series. I wonder if the tool would run whilst the charger is attached? I believe the battery has had it and does not push any real power anymore. These old cells and chargers did not need all the fancy electronics to protect them as they are not dangerous like lithium and the chargers were much more simple. That charger is heavy and in that shape because it has a good school iron transformer inside. Modern chargers are tiny and light as they use a switch mode power supply that does all the heavy lifting using tiny electronic parts and do not need a massive expensive transformer. Makita 18v fast charger is 8amps at 20v so 160 watts of power. This 14.4v charger has 5 amps. 14.4 * 5 = 72. So this charger has 72 watts of power. So about half as powerful as the modern makita 18v fast charger, but much more heavy and dare I say more reliable. Tools have moved on so much, but Makita have always been a true innovator and to this day produce some of the most well rounded and reliable tools within the given price bracket. Less marketing and more quality.

    OMG, I'm so getting one, I already have a generic brand wand that takes a single Makita battery, and allthough it's not this powerfull, its perfect for keeping on my truck to rinse the sand off of everything and everyone, I even carry a gallon jug, and have plenty of water left over . Maybe I'll hold off for a 40V version, but this looks pretty nice nonetheless, I'd just keep the entire thing on a tiny dolly when moving around, as a matter of fact, I already have a couple of tiny foldable Makita dollies that would work perfectly for this . love it, TNX.

    The light flashes red when you have not reached the correct torque setting, and green when you have. I'll send you the link for the software if you want to plug it in and have a play with that. You can also program it to run at whatever speed you want. You can even set it to run for 1 second on a low rpm then 2 seconds on a high rpm, then stop for instance. They are fun to play with. I really should get around to reviewing all the ones I showed in several of my older vids.

    • @UKTOOLTALK

      Cheers dude I tryd to find out how to get the software but didn’t get anywhere, it’s a crazy drill!! Very very interesting, the only thing is I’m in a holding pattern with my channel ie this video was going to be very much more in depth and allot more research was needed and to get all the points across it might have Been an hour long video possibly 2 and I’m trying to make shorter video ie less than 10 minutes and not repeat myself so much, sooooo I’m in a weird space really! This video is not the video I wanted to put out and I’m errrr kinda content with it ish but it’s getting tons of views and engagement which has given me a boost, fuck me I don’t know what to do 🤪😜🤪🤟🤟

  • @nominalvelocity
    @nominalvelocity 13 днів тому

    Very cool. I bet the red light when you first pulled the trigger shows that the driver did not reach the torque setting. I suspect it was working fine. Did you try driving a fastener with it? The switch on the gear housing may be a Hall effect sensor for encoding rotational counts, or to count if the back section of the clutch slipped a set number of times. I wonder what the torque rating is...

  • @worstuserever
    @worstuserever 13 днів тому

    Maybe that mystery button is a normally open kill switch, closed by part of the case when correctly positioned and fully assembled? First thing I'd try is reassemble the tool but leave the case open and see if it will run from the trigger. If not, or if any part doesn't work normally, try again while pressing the button. Also the switch wires might offer a clue to function; where do they trace to?

  • @triedtofail
    @triedtofail 13 днів тому

    They don't have rubber over-molding because it gets wrecked from the amount of hours of work they put theses things through. Also, there is an expectation to wear gloves for fastening tasks so it would be redundant. Software controlled because they don't want it getting misconfigured all of the time between shifts

    Some of us accept a certain amount of mimickry, but that's taking the piss passing itself off as an actual Makita branded tool. I have a Katsu brand cordless trim router that is an extremely close copy of the DRT50, but for a lot less money. Unfortunately I don't possess the genuine model to compare properly, but apart from a couple of very slight differences in case shape it looks identical to pictures of the genuine Makita, and certainly works as expected.
