So you listed the following three methods: 1) use mulch to prevent splash up from the blight fungus-infected dirt; 2) prune all lower-level leaves and branches to at least 12-14” off the ground, which allows for better airflow, and allows leaves to dry making them less susceptible to catching blight; and 3) always sterilize your trimmers after every cut to avoid transferring the blight fungus from plant to plant. So where are methods four and five?? Your title states that there are five methods for preventing blight.

Would pine bark mulch work for covering?

That was some hard packed soil, you need a (4 prong)potato hoe. Than a stirrip hoe to maintain

Why not plant them at just 6" level of soil in a pot and keep adding soil as the plant grows and let it grow more and more roots? I think potatoes love to grow in this way.

Get them some water please, lol. I had purple tomato leaves last year and I just couldn't figure out why. Turns out I was just not watering them often enough because I was afraid of overwatering. Tomatoes love water as long as it's not mud I also started actually giving them enough fertilizer this year and they're doing GREAT so far

I’m Louisiana I started these a month before last frost date, put them out a week before lfd and planted them 2 weeks after. They were tiny when planted and now they are the same size as those 3 weeks later. I never repotted them from the small cells I had them in. I also never hardened off and have never had any problem with not.

mine have outgrown solo cup and reaching grow light.Should I up pot and sit on covered porch?I will try up potting,maybe I can bury enough so not so close to light

Scuffle hoe, stirrup hoe, hula hoe. Whatever you choose to call this tool, it is a great weeding and light cultivation garden tool. If you are working raised beds, there is a smaller version thats perfect, called the mini hula hoe! I fell in love with that one the minute I saw it and knew I had to have it! : )

Those hairs are called trichomes, they help to protect the plant and there is no scientific evidence that they turn into roots once buried in the soil.

The ground has to be pretty dry to get the weeds and as he said it doesn't get the roots. I recently purchased one and used it in a garden bed that was being overtaken by ground cover (grrr) it did get some of the roots, but I think a regular hoe might work better. I'm unable to bend and get down to yank those bad boys out by hand so I tried this type of hoe.

One other comment...I used to make wooden cages like on your tomatoes and moved to using U/T posts with netting strung horizontally between them...works awesome for bushing plants...thought might be interesting to ya

How do u ensure that the grass u collect from the neighborhood is chemical/herbicide free? I like to exclusively use grass & leaves but our little patch of grass just isn’t quite enough

I think I have some 2 month old pole bean vines that are about 15-20 ft long... But they're having to compete against cherry tomatoes, trees, cucumbers, fences, etc and climb climb climb for that sunlight. They're only just starting to flower despite being so tall. My tomatoes have been pruned below 12-18 inches and I've had no issues with early tomato blight with the wet summer we've been having. I don't have any mulch, but the ground is pretty well covered by the tomatoes and understory plants so I don't think there's too much dirt splashing up since the raindrops get their fall broken by leaves before hitting the ground. Only thing I'm having is flea beetles (no big deal) and one massive hornworm I squished this morning. I'm having a bit of a rough time with bacterial wilt on my cucumbers and cantaloupe. I've lost 4/18 cucumber plants to that so far. I also cut off large secondary stems from two cantaloupe and one cucumber plant today and yesterday. I think I managed to catch it within hours of it starting to wilt, and I cut the secondary stems as close to the main stem as I could. It was only a few leaves on the secondary stems that started to wilt. We'll see how those plants look in a day or two. I'd hate to lose the cucumber plant since between the main vine and secondary vine, it must have about 20 feet of vines - it's the biggest cucumber plant I have by a fair bit. And one of the cantaloupes that are at risk has a couple decent sized (a bit bigger than a plum) fruits on them and is also one of my biggest plants...
