I had a similar Hondo in the late 70's which I used for slide. It had great tone but I don't remember it as being heavy. It may have ply which is what someone else has commented on.

The H77 should be plywood, not mahogany. That guitar is roughly from 83 and made in Korea. The pickups are hot which is why it has that thick tone.

Guitar sounds spectacular, nothing better than a old strat.

I recently got a Hondo H77 as a "throw in" guitar deal. I didn't put much stock into it setting up the deal but boy was I shocked when I got it home to play! Such a unique guitar and they play great. Mine is in a bright red color, looks great beside my white Fender MIM strat.

I bought my Midtown Custom in 2012, not sure of the production date, but it definitly is not a hollowbody. It is a chambered body with routed out sidewings and the center in the body is left, which basically makes it a semi-hollow body. I agree with you that it is a very fine guitar that deserved a much wider spread use. I added locking tuners and a stets bar trem, which is non invasive and can be reversed to its original. For me it's a keeper.

Dude I encourage you to be amazed; unscrew the backplate, have a look under the pickups, and ask your self where those bridge studs are anchored in :) A Midtown isn't fully hollow sorry

My main guitar! Love it and love the Burstbuckers! Hardly touch my 91 Les Paul Standard, my 91 PRS CE-24 or my 94 Fender Ann. Strat. But it's in fact a semi- solid. Nothing fully or semi-hollow bout this one, but that's just o.k!!

Beautiful guitar man. I have the same one is sunburst. But in fact your info about it being fully hollow is incorrect. Those chambers are actually just hollowed out from a solid piece of wood. This is closer to a Les Paul then an ES 335. , I would recommend you watch trogly’s video on one of these where in fact, he takes it apart and shows you the construction.

I bought one and I love it. Period correct hard case came with it.
