The thing is, this game is notorious for speedruns and exploits. For casual experience, the metal cap is actually very good. So i'd say the view is pretty one sided.

When i was running around them to avoid their attacks, i noticed them start to tilt. I kept going in circles to see what happened, and then they died.

The eyes die the same way so that's probably how people thought of that

Whomp's Fortress: You can get to a vertical PU by setting the HOLP in a PU within Bob-omb Battlefield, cloning one of the falling platforms, and releasing it at the HOLP while standing on it (but there's no way to avoid a crash on console). Jolly Roger Bay: This wasn't known when the video was made, but you now can use hyperspeed walking to get PU speed. Lethal Lava Land: You can use a bully stuck in lava to gain PU speed. Dire Dire Docks: By setting the HOLP in a PU, cloning a pole, and releasing it at the HOLP on the same frame you grab the pole, the game teleports you to the HOLP. Rainbow Ride: You can actually BLJ on the elevator next to the maze. Bowser in the Fire Sea: You can BLJ on the elevator past the pole. This is actually used in the world record TAS.

Pal games not work

The same is with the two spiky roofs on the back of the Peach's castle. They have no collision, but there's floor inside them that can be walked on.
