Savage Axis 41 Great Lakes || Build Introduction
This is an introduction to my 41 Great Lakes build. The rifle will primarily be used for bear hunting in Appalachia. The components currently weigh about 8.5 lbs, but my goal for the final build is 7.5-8 lbs. Stay tuned for updates.

Are mags 308 ?
@@kengriffith4968 Yes, Savage model 55232.
What's that twist rate on that barrel? I'd love to see what the cartridge can do in a subsonic loadings with a fast twist rate. Would be nice to have a large bore straight wall like this that can compete the the 8.6 Blackout in the subsonic regime.
@iflycentral I believe all of the 41 Great Lakes are being made with 1-14" twist rate barrels. According to the designer of the 41, that should stabalize projectiles up to 300 grains for subsonic use. I think they have done some subsonic loadings with 265 grain projectiles. The 41 GL has a lot of potential as a subsonic round.
@thewildlayman good to know. I'm certainly not in a position to build / commission anything right now, and I realize the problems that can come about with bullet integrity at higher RPMs, but I'm envisioning something more extreme like a 1-5" or perhaps even faster. Not only would that allow for the stabilization of longer heavier projectiles, but it would also potentially introduce rotational terminal balistics to the equation like that observed with 8.6 BLK. I'm just spitballing, but it's an idea I've had ever since seeing a custom .45 Raptor build here on YT that was doing something similar.
@@iflycentral Yeah, the 45 Raptor guys have the subsonic thing figured out.
I'm thinking about companion for 41 mag revolver🤷
