San Diego!!
Iván and Luis, again, Thank You! Also, I greatly enjoy these creative beginnings. They set the mood quite nicely, and I find myself dancing along to the lively music. (smile) **** On to the stories. . .. . * * Emily, I love how you begin with the journey from childhood to your profession today, and I love how you weave your languages together from the very first of this story. Your voice, eyes, and chosen words make this very much like a lively song. ". . . .como una mariposa en el jardin. . . . " que linda! Your many phrases like this helped me see the shy then confident little girl shine through in you even now. As you "grew up" in your story, I was touched and angered by the dismissive attitudes you endured but moreso touched and inspired by your own internal resolve. I'm also astounded by your energy as a teacher/luchadora (in many, many forms) now. This is bright, hopeful, and truly lovely! * * Michael, oh how heartwarming and comforting your "shared kitchen" is in the introduction. Moving into your descriptions of your Pomona and Santa Juana kitchens, your words made me see those different family members; I appreciate how you refer to nourishment, love, and tradition. You now pass that on to your nephew and surely many others. What a "savory" and eloquent story! * * Doctora Eva, what a significant and profound start you provided. Every teacher I've met -- myself included -- has found such doubts, yet we are taught to avoid discussing them. I'm touched by your early reference to those people who helped you, and then I sighed hearing about your early teaching challenges. Over and again, you generously credited your mentors, and I increasingly admire how many Latinx educators emphasize gratitude and community. Finally, I love your lessons and tips which reveal so much intellect and heart. When school begins again, I will make a similar list; I'll credit you, be assured. (grateful smile) * * Dwaynnewe, I loved your insight even before seeing your face! Such profound comments you gave. "Let Love Lighten The Way" is a beautiful start already, and your descriptions of your family were lovely. Oh my, I gasped and then cried as your story progressed. Your courage is inspiring. So are your vulnerability and compassion toward others when you (understandably) could be angry. The messages you sent out to each family member reveal your own generosity and love. My favorites among your pearls of wisdom? a) ". . . New revelations have soothed my soul. . . ." b) "Thank You for this live I have been given." c) "You are the creator of your own narrative. You own your body and yourself. You must stay as authentic as possible and truly let love lighten the way." Absolutely beautiful!
Iván and Luis, Thank You for cultivating so much among us teachers and in our communities. * * * * On to the stories. . . * * Griselda - ah, your "Where I'm From" poem created vivid images and sensory experiences (the food!) fror me even though I've never been to those places. I now want to travel to your home. (smile) I sighed hearing, "I am from dark brown eyes, from hard-working hands, and the dream of a better life. . . " and then found myself losing myself in your emotions, especially when approaching "La familia es mas importante." Throughout, your two languages wove together musically even when the pain arose. By the end, I was certain you have surely brought great pride for your family and loved ones. What a powerful, warm, lyrical poet you are! * * Daniel, I couldn't help but cheer hearing you were from Kansas City! I hope to meet you someday here in KC. I was touched by your personal memory of the 2018 MLK Celebration. ". . . through the motions. . . out of my capacity to be present. . . Are we sure we want to celebrate me?. . . awareness I am not okay. . . . first-generation college student. . . . " This and later personal stories made me think of so many students I have, and then they led me back to think about your earlier dialogue between Dominic and Federico, and I found hope in your final words. Your story has so many layers; listening to the end, I find great hope in your courage in healing and beginning anew. Wonderful! * * As with Daniel, I hope to meet you soon, Salvador -- another KC teacher. How impressive that your colleagues already admire and support you. As soon as you referred to your grandfather, I smiled something big because I love those family stories, and then I found tears forming as your repeated "He was gone." Listening to your experiences here, I recognized so many challenges my parents faced. At least for my family, this community brings blessings and burdens both. I cheered when hearing you mention your teachers early on and then re-commit even here -- showing how you are growing stronger because of family and earlier teachers. Fabulous! * * Alicia, how awesome that you were able to go through this storytelling experience with your cousin! I suspect that you'll find many more family stories to reveal and others to create. Oh wow! You have begun, and your rich voice is already musical, and your gestures and eyes are a bit like dancing. The ways you recall your grandparents and then show your own life now are beautiful. This had a bit of a break, but I hope to hear your whole story. You are here in the Midwest, so I look forward to meeting you in person! I would love to hear this in full as well as more of your stories.
Wonderful voces ❤❤❤

Latinos were mostly fighting to be white in America .. Tell the story right
LATINX: ANOTHER RACIAL SLUR FOR HISPANOS/LATINOS.....
Dr. Martin Luther King jr. Didn't start the civil rights Movement, but joined the Movement. What struggles did Latinos create?
Latinos must learn their original history before a arrival of Spain, and conquistadors and Roman Empire.
If ANYONE is say that Latino's has been in the struggle from the beginning is misleading and miseducated of the facts.
The fight, he's speaking about is the black Warriors, named John Horse and Osceola. No you haven't been in every fight since 1705.
Latinos struggle didn't start at the same time as the black struggles in this country, because you weren't here, and you get government funding only because of black people.
Latinos are Brown people, because they carry a black DNA.
Latinos join the fight in the late 1950's and 1960's, but weren't included in the United States Constitution. Black people are underneath the 13th amendment, and 14th amendments and Latinos are underneath the 5th amendment, which is 1965 Immigration Act and naturalization Act. Black people are not allowed to be part of Immigration in the United States. The 14th amendment was written just for ADOS/Black people and this is the only way that other Racial minorities can get United States funding is because of black people. Latinos are three hundred years behind and civil rights were started in the 1930's. Working on the railroad was the West coast with Asians, had nothing to do with civil rights Groups. Civil rights Groups has been fighting since 1866 and it wasn't no Latin, Native's Indians or Asians in the Constitution. Native Americans Indians fought with the Confederate soldiers. Africans were in South and Central America before Hispanics/LATINOS. Africans were in Europe, Canada, Alaska, Carribeans, Australia, India Asia, South and Central America before ANYONE for six thousand years before the indigenous black Indians arrived and sixteen thousand years before the arrival of Europeans. There's needs to be a true dialogue and the history, legacy, Pyramids, olmec heads Statues and empires were created six thousand years before Indian. Africans controlled and wandered all over the globe.
What does LECT MEAN?
Se agradece mucho esa humildad, sencillez, sinceridad que te caracteriza y que no te olvidas de tus raíces y que las pones en alto, te deseo muchos éxitos más y te mando un fuerte abrazo.
LATINX: ANOTHER RACIAL SLUR FOR HISPANICS....
Hahaha I checked my email. I did my homework lol
LATINX: ANOTHER RACIAL SLUR FOR HISPANICS, A NEW FORM OF NEOCOLONIALISM AND LINGUISTIC IMPERIALISM....
Hmmm... In the interview the "Vision Quest - immigrant youth center" is mentioned, but the whole story is not clear here due to time constraints. It was a very questionable company, history of abuse, kicked out of multiple cities around the country. When we got alerted to their attempts to start a benign-sounding "youth center for immigrants" we sound the alarm, and people across the city were very against having such a center in KC to essentially jail Central American minors who came seeking asylum, run by a company with a history of abuse, no experience working with immigrants. Our network and collaborators got 7300+ petition signatures in just a matter of weeks calling for the City Planning Commission to do the right thing. Ultimately Vision Quest dropped their application of their own accord when they saw how much resistance they were going to face.
Thank you Delia and Ivan for touching on the needs that kids have to be mentored into the process of getting into college and finding the path to higher education. 🙂
