Dhrupad Sadhana
United States
Приєднався 9 бер 2023
Exploring diverse voices, ‘dhrupad sadhana’ celebrates the relevance of dhrupad in the 21st century. Emphasizing universal human values, multi-faith dimensions and the motivations of contemporary ‘dhrupadiyas’, (artists dedicated to dhrupad) in South Asia and around the world.
We explore these themes across a spectrum of inter-generational voices with a commitment to inclusivity. We hope this interactive project contributes to a more vibrant musical future for all people, interested in traditions that are deeply rooted in but not stuck in the past.
These interviews demonstrate an intriguing diversity of opinions. As a collection of artists who have learned from just a handful of ustads (at this point of the project we have focused on Dagar Bani lineage) and their disciples, the lack of consensus around performance and pedagogy is fascinating. Hearing directly from artists (as opposed to scholars & researchers) contributes to a new level of accessibility into the art today.

Dhani Gundecha: Connections
Dhani Gundecha emphasizes the significance of the Guru-Shishya Parampara, a traditional teacher-student relationship, in preserving and nurturing the depth and meditative essence of dhrupad. She reflects upon growing up with her father and uncles of the Gundecha Brothers, surrounded by music her entire life, but only later coming to recognize its significance. The conversation concludes with a performance of Raga Jog alongside Anuja Borude on pakhawaj.

Wa wa wa. Meghanatai Wa. Ati Sundar. I have personally witnessed your practice at 5 a.m. one day. I am so proud of you. May God bless you.
I bow to you Dada. I know how much struggle you went through and win this game.
So good to see a recent video of you! Until now the most recent I could find was nearly two years ago, and you were very sad (bitter was the word you used) and I was worried that things had not gotten better. I'm glad you're ok! I've been finding some amazing Indian classical musicians on youtube lately who are alive and relatively young, and coincidentally they've all been female... Roopa Panesar, Debasmita Bhattacharya and Anupama Bhagwat. All absolutely incredible players, as you are.
very informative video and Ustad explains really well. but somehow i dont know why we have to get in the multi faith matter here. give the art form its due by giving credit to its orign. and without doubt this art originates from the Hindu/ Sanatani faith system. all the compositions are in reverence/ bhakti to devis ,devatas and Ishwar . that such a conplex and mysterious art form arose in this land and its people should be accepted and acknowledged.
+1 credit has been deposited into Hinduisms account for inventing Dhrupad
Well said! 🙏
Respect 🙏

Surely it is doing the same to us, and will be doing for many more to come. Can’t imagine how one must feel being in the company of such devoted , hardworking- effortless individuals. Would love to listen / watch full performance videos from the end of all interviews. Where can we cherish that ? 🙏
❤Exceptional presentation of Raga Chayanat Dhamar!!!

Very interesting interview of a very wîse and nice gentleman.
So great to hear some of Meghana's thoughts on dhrupad. And wow, what a beautiful and mesmerizing alaap and bandish! Thank you both! 💗
Maybe dhrupad is not meant to be understood, but realised as purely experiential, open to - as you mention - diverse personal interpretation and insights.
Thank You!
प्रणाम। Can you talk in Sanskrit Bhasha the Mother of Bharatiya Sanskriti?
Nowadays many foreign people learn and play this music and don t have time to study hindi or sanskrit.

17:59 Not just Buddhist perspective, that's the core of Upanishadic teaching, Vedanta. दु:खेष्वनुद्विग्नमना: सुखेषु विगतस्पृह: | वीतरागभयक्रोध: स्थितधीर्मुनिरुच्यते || 2.56|| One whose mind remains undisturbed amidst misery, who does not crave for pleasure, and who is free from attachment, fear, and anger, is called a sage of steady wisdom.
Philosophy I read from Upanishad, and when I see these musician they are living that philosophy.
