Just ONE book
It takes one book to create a reader. Just ONE book. The book has to be accessible and inclusive. It's our job to get the right book into the hands of prospective readers - This short clip speaks to a perfect book for an indigenous adult or youth or a person interested in Indigenous culture.
BOOKS ARE NOT OPTIONAL
Maria Montessori taught us that it takes three things to create readers, time, a hero and books. This clip speaks to the third of the three: the need for books. Not surprizing, it takes books but what kind of books? 1. Books that include readers and 2. books that are accessible to their readers.
Wanted: HEROS
Maria Montessori should be trusted. She taught us that to share the gift of reading it takes time, a hero and books. In my last blog, I spoke to the time she tells us it takes. In this, I will briefly address what Maria describes as the need for a hero in the process. We all have to recognize our status with our youth and step up to the plate. We, parents, educators, family members, bus drivers...
Am I a conspiracy theorist

Have we been manipulated into thinking that reading is a science that can be applied to everyone - when we choose to apply it? It certainly how we perceived it to be in the See Dick - See Jane era.... How can we be hanging on to that outdated strategy that has failed so many for so long. Is there really a programme that will create readers out of anyone and everyone? Or was Maria Montessori rig...
Ukrainian folk song - senseless war
I speak to conferences, classes and parent groups. And as I do, I can't rid myself of the dark shadow cast by the senseless killings and heartbreaking suffering of so many Ukrainians. When I lie in bed waiting for sleep to take me, I always think of the many who are hungry and cold - the tens of thousand who are witnessing the destruction of their homes and families and their way of life. Then ...
A gift for educators and parents - THE GIFT OF READING
What has happened to common sense in our world? I'm not talking about the world pandemic although I could go on at lengths if I thought it would make a difference. I'm not talking about climate change, fires and floods. I'm not talking about the indifference shown toward the thousands of murdered children being located near residential schools. (Excuse me but this horrific crime should be on th...
Liars - Haters and those who should be standing up to them...
When did the word misinformation take the place of the word we used to use, lies. I prefer lies. And haters? People who spread lies are called haters. But let's be clear, these haters are also liars. Everyone, including countless Russians, know that Putin is a liar. He is lying and spreading hate for his own sick, personal ambition. It is known and yet, so many are standing by doing nothing or ...
Each student is unique. Our collective mandate is to help students understand and live by that truth

The fourth of four video clips outlining how I begin a presentation to students, educators or parents. This one speaks to the fact that every person is unique/one of a kind. We should be treated as such and we should teach children as such. It is well past the time that we teach to a curriculum, regardless of how good it seems to be. We must learn to identify the gift in every child and teach t...
Mental Health - a daily discussion
Canadians almost always begin every event with a land recognition. Finally and rightfully so. Canadians should begin every event remembering and grieving for the thousands of innocent children who were murdered while attending residential schools. A thought for all newspaper publishers: Regardless of the content in your daily newspaper, update an orange banner in the top left hand corner with a...
Inviting the murdered residential school children
We absolutely must keep the thousands of murdered residential school children alive in our daily discussions and ceremonies. Few events in Canada today, including major sporting events, take place without land recognition. In the same vein, the thousands of children whose bodies are being discovered (in some cases recovered) absolutely have to be included in our daily lives and ceremonies. When...

Since I was made aware of your brilliance by Maria Lepage last summer when I performed at the Foyer d'Youville last summer, I feel the music and and and and I have done a scansion (I took versification a year behind you) and have melody and motion and any day now it becomes music. Do I need your permission? Find me Elliott Barraclough (nom-de-play). It speaks to my soul. Thanks..

LOVE this book, thank you David! I grew up in the Prairies and moved to the big city but within a few years was really missing home. I took my kids to the public library and discovered your book - it made me so homesick! Haha...in a few years we were back on the Prairie. I've bought your book and share it with everyone. Brilliantly described, my home is the Prairie and for that I am so proud! Makes me teary eyed every time I read it. Cheers!

This was almost correct. Red Dawn is the East as Sunrise and Yellow Day is the South as Sun overhead. Blue Moon at Dusk is the proper colour not Black for the West Direction. The White Moon overhead is the North Direction. The 4 seasons are not how Climate should be on Earth for People who are naked skinned furless mammals adapted to camoflage to beach sand. The Climate should be always nice as weather. That weather change was in 1968 when the Evil Spirit was ordered to keep it cold so people would live indoors and wear clothing all the time. That is the start of civilization for Native People. Creator has promised to bring good weather all the time so that Earth is back to living conditions of good climate. So Climate Change is going to happen by Creator in one moment for Us as People so we can live outdoors in a beautiful environment again. There are sacred teachings that our Spirits know that we as People will learn again. Be kind to animals and do not fear them. They are our friends. We do not hunt them for food. We will als get all our foods back. The Three Sisters is from South America. In North America we have our own foods that the Evil Spirit destroyed and Creator saved them in a World Above. That World will be brought down to Earth and Created again. We had no need as People for farms as Evil Spirit made crops that were useless as we as Native People lost the forest and were given food by the Spirits like barley and wild rice and oats and strawberries and blueberries and cranberries. The Spirits sustained us as Creator looked after the People. The cities are on our Native Land of our Tribes and Creator will remove them. All Native People to Canada and America will get their land back as Forest for Wildlife and to walk the sand trails again barefoot.

Bonne continuation.
