Pastor Jacob's Sermon [9-22-24] - Hidden Figures: Bezalel & Oholiab
A holy pause, indeed!
Thank you for your vulnerability and being such a pivotal part of our faith and community. Watching this really helped me put into words emotions I couldn't this past week.
❤ beautiful singing
Dank voor de video Hans uit Zwolle Nederland
Hey Jacob- what is a woman?
❤
Thank you. We are grateful for you and the church. ❤❤❤❤
🙏 Amen ❤️❤️✊💔❤️❤️ I am beyond grateful and blessed to be a part of this wonderful church and community.
So how does 1 Peter 2:13 play into that?
Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us. Thank you for guiding us with your faith love and devotion to the church to each one of us. Thank you for being here for us.
Thank you for sharing your feelings. I will need to process this shock for a long time. Good to know I am not alone! Yes, we need faith even more! It’s hard to go through the next 4 years! Let’s pray!
Thank you for your ministry. Praying for us all to continue to emulate Jesus in our compassion and courage.
Thanks for sharing the pain of this transition. We hold both of you in our hearts with the added burdens that the election puts on you. For all of us, self care and reflection can be helpful in processing the Trump victory nationally. While he won the popular vote and electoral college, his margins weren't on the scale of Obama's 2008 landslide. I am grateful that CA and our community went strongly for Harris and has elected solid progressives to the U.S. Senate, the House, and to state offices, along with affirming marriage equality and funding climate measures. Our activism for LGBTQ+ rights, the climate, women's rights, and against oligarchy will continue.
Thank you for thinking of us and giving folks a space to share. We are still in shock and mourning mode. I guess we are shocked because we would not allow for this to be our reality and we are heart broken that so many in our nation did. This makes us fear for our people, our allies and the planet.
Thank you for your words of acknowledgement to all our big feelings. Amen
❤ Thank you for acknowledging this hardship. So grateful we can have a space to process. Thank you for making that possible.
Thanks for your words. I'm still crying, as we'd just watched Kamala's concession speech. Do watch if you haven't.
Thank you for sharing.
This IS what gave me and many of my friends hope. Hope for love and kindness in a fractured humanity ! THANK YOU ❤❤❤❤
Sorry to be mising a few Sundays! Visiting in Texas. Love the blue hir.
we'll see you when you come back! 🩵
I appreciate you recording these and making them available to those of us at home. I struggle to get out of bed some mornings because of chronic pain, and it's nice to still feel connected to a church
Absolutely! We are so grateful that you can join us for worship digitally! We are sorry for your struggles with chronic pain and will be keeping you in prayer. We are here for anything you need. If you would like to be on our weekly email list, please reach out to us at jacob@claremontucc.org. We look forward to connecting with you.
My dog Teddy Magee is in real need of a blessing! Serious entitlement issues with lack of remorse.
No such thing a woman pastor.
Also, you mention knowing the difference between God as he is and God as he is written about. How do you come to the conclusion of who God is?
Another great question! That is the journey that humans have been on since the beginning of recorded human history. Sometimes we get it wrong (i.e. humans using Scripture to defend the institution of slavery and declare that God prefers certain races over others) and hopefully sometimes we get it right. In the Bible, the characters come to understand more and more the loving kindness of God. At first, they think that God wants an eye for an eye, but they later come to understand that God desires for us to love our enemies. We can know God from our experience with God, from the traditions of our faith, from wrestling with Scripture, and from our own logic. That's called the Wesleyan Quadrilateral. The teachings of Jesus, of course, give us a great picture of God's character. But we should all have enough humility to know that we don't have all the answers and it's a lifelong journey to come to know God more fully.
@@ClaremontUnitedChurchofChrist Thank you for answering my questions. This was really helpful 😊.
Pardon my question here in the comments, I am asking this in good faith. How do you navigate passages which condemn same sex relationships in the new testament. Specially Romans Chapter 1. Looking forward to a reply 😊
Great question! I think a great encapsulation of my position on the Bible and same-sex relationships can be found in a book entitled, "God and the Gay Christian" by Matthew Vines or the book "UnClobber" by Colby Martin. Both books demonstrate how one can be faithful to Scripture and understand these passages in their historical and cultural context and be affirming of the LGBTQ+ community.
@@ClaremontUnitedChurchofChrist Thank you for you answer 😊. I'll check them out. :)
Amen 🙏 father I love you amen and your family and your kindness in the name of Jesus Christ 💓🙏
Wow!
❤
❤
I really love this church, going to be watching your worship services weekly now, Much love from Texas!
Thank you for hosting the Lilia Ensemble - we really enjoyed performing for you!
Feel so blessed to be a part of a church that takes action like this and “putting faith into action” as Pastor Jen states. ❤️
I’m so thankful for you and CUCC. I’ll do what I can to support ❤❤❤! Thank YOU
Hallelujah Read Paul’s gospel Romans through Philemon.
Thank you Pastor Jacob ❤ As usual a fascinating , eye and heart opening sermon.
What a great series topic. I’m hoping Jethro makes a sermonic appearance. I have received some well needed delegation advice over the years from unexpected sources, including someone being admitted to a psychiatric hospital.
Oooh! Jethro and that exact passage you reference of helping Moses with delegation was on our shortlist for this sermon series and was the final one cut. We'll have to do his story at some point, though! It's a good one.
I'm so sorry to hear that! Thank you for keeping us updated. <3
I'm so sorry your little follicles were napping, apparently, this time 'round. Prayers they wake up and get going for next month. You always look so positive in the videos, but I'm sure this must be disheartening and sad for both of you. God has you and so do all those who love you. <3
Pastor Jen gets prettier and prettier each day
With all due respect
A woman preaching? Thats blasphemy. No wonder your ivf isn't working
Much love ♥️ and welcome home.
Much love to you both ❤️
Hello. I have a question because I was wondering about how many functional churches are in the Middle East ? This question is for a few days in my head but I couldn’t find any information on the internet! Will be grateful if you can help with this! Blessings ❤
Just make sure you’re on the right side. Those who support LGBTQ are enemies of Messiah Yeshua. Those who support abortion which is the shedding of innocent blood 🩸 are enemies of Messiah Yeshua. Repent if you are supporting those evil behaviors.
Humor, wit, crowdsourcing......love the message here. Shame from anonymous sources or othewise should be an emotional place we are always just passing through, not residing in. And I loved my Yoda underoos as a kid.
Amen! Love that we are a radically welcoming space for all, no matter how they choose to express themselves.
Love you good people. Will miss seeing you this Sunday as I’m traveling to do a week of camping/hiking and resting! 😌 ❤
I will keep going in jesus mighty holey name🙏
I love this so much.
