How old is that book?
Pages I have torn out of old books and coffee dyed
is it watercolour? They're pretty!
@@abuenopasaber975 yes mostly metallic watercolor
Now that's a masterpiece right there
What color is this?
Scandinavian pink from Annie Sloan paint. It's a light coral.
Are you spritzing the brush and surface with water?
Yes. It is always helpful to spritz with water when using thick chalk paint.
Whats in the black tube
This is my water spritzer bottle. It is always helpful to spray with water with chalk paint.
What is she putting on the brush? Like every so often is it a spray of some kind it seems to help with application
Water. You can buy the spritzer bottles on Amazon. The kind hair dressers use. Water helps move the paint.
Have you added anything to the mica? Or how do you go about sealing this if not?
It is mica powder onto some dark wax and then sealing it with clear wax (Annie Sloan)
Does the clear wax smear the mica powder? @@RitaShurmerArt
you can wait at least 24 hrs before sealing with wax@@margianthony
What brand of chalk paint did you use?
I use Annie Sloan chalk paint. It is the highest quality chalk paint. Thanks!
What kind of glue do you use?
I am using Liquitex matte gel.
I would really like to see this done after you redid it! Gorgeous piece. Thanks for the tip of the tooth brush. ❤
I totally transformed this piece and painted it red. Thanks for watching my wax tip!
Can you share which brand of wax you are using
Leslie, I use Annie Sloan waxes. It says in the description up there. I used black wax on this paper. 95% of my furniture gets Annie Sloan paints and waxes. It is the only paint and wax that I trust 100% for durability and longevity. I use all her waxes but the dark wax is particularly great for aging on pieces and also the black wax - which is truly black so just have a light hand when using black. If the black wax seems too scary to use then go for the dark wax. When you are putting her waxes over paint it is best to use a first initial coat of clear wax and then a dark or a black. I hope that helps.
Paints and chalk mixed media and extending the composition out into the decorative frame...hummmmmm...great idea 😊
What brand wax did you use? I'm doing a similar project right now. But my window is not "chippy" Lol! It's my bathroom window and will be using a large Dixie Belle stencil.
You can use decor wax that Hobby Lobby sells. It is a decorative wax called DecoArt metallic wax. Amazon sells it too. It comes in a variety of colors. You can also use a decorative wax from Prima Redesign. I hope that helps.
@@RitaShurmerArt Thank you. I think I found something that will work!
Beautiful
what is it
Hi. Sorry it shows up in the Instagram post. It is Napoleonic Blue and Graphite mixed together from AS. Usually I do half half but the blue or gray changes depending on how much of each you use. Thanks
Good luck
Did u Découpage of the furniture then paint it
paint all the base colors, then I used a furniture transfer, then all the dry brushing, then the topcoat
Looks beautiful
thank you
Hi Rita- I’m very new to the party regarding the use of transfers. I purchased Lovely Ledgers from Re-Design by Prima, watched a “million” UA-cam videos but none of them were as useful as yours. I am using it on a black and white 2-door cabinet. The design has three parts the top. All of the parts came out of the tube unattached from the back in sheet! As I had not seen your video I did not know to tape the parts together. The top piece went on fine but when I started to put the untaped second piece on the transfer stucco itself!! Of course I freaked out but was able to only lose a few images. I am about to apply the third piece with a bit more courage. Thank you! Do you agree that Ledger is one of the harder transfer? I see that it is being discontinued. Thanks again. Jo Scott
Hi Jo. I am glad my videos are helping you! Unfortunately the Prima transfers can easily stick to themselves and stick to anything they touch. That is why I found it best to tape them all. I found they are all like this. That is one of the reasons why I have switched to IOD transfers instead. They don't instantly stick to themselves or if they fall out of your hands they don't stick to whatever they fall on. It makes them easier to work with! Plus they have markings on them to help cut them. Prima tends to discontinue transfers often. It's just the way they work. I hope my videos continue to help you. Let me know if you have more questions.
Thanks for that info. I will try IOD next time
Wow!!! 💜💜💜
I have a design painted table with a wax finish, will that method take the paint off or fade it?
If it is Annie Sloan paint and Annie Sloan wax, no it will not take the paint off just the wax. If it is not AS paint and wax then I can't speak on other paint and waxes.
This is one of the nicest pieces ihave seen
Thank you!
This is beautiful I. Love it, do these crayons work like pastels!? It's fab
Yes. You will want to spray your work with a fixative before applying your final topcoat.
That looks BEAUTIFUL well done very creative just gorgeous! Which transfers are those? 👏
Thank you! That is the Redoute II transfer from Iron Orchid Designs. They have great transfers.
Hi, I just finished a small dresser with modern masters metallic paint and didnt seal it yet. Upon putting a drawer back it chipped. How long does it take to fully cure and how much more durable would it be with the topcoat? What shine should the topcoat be? Thank you
Hi. Sorry I am just seeing this. The reason it chipped could be that you didn't prep the piece properly. The paint shouldn't chip. So often people don't realize that furniture needs to be properly prepped first. Also, did you put a primer on?
Lovely punkings can you tell me what the name of the clay
Hi. I think I was using the modeling clay from Prima Marketing.
Good info! Does that mean a semi-gloss has even LESS open time than the Satin? Do you lightly sand between coats? Sorry for the questions, I’m just about to do a table with metallic foil on the top
Correct. The more gloss it is, the harder it is to work with. I don't sand between coats but you can. Make sure to use 400 grit or higher. You want to just do that lightly if you sand between coats. Good luck.
@@RitaShurmerArt Thank you so much for the advice!
I love your music
Did you put anything on the back of your stencil to keep a crisp outline and cut down on paint bleed??
Dawn, no I never put anything on my stencils. It does help to first roll your roller or dab your brush on some paper before rolling or dabbing the stencils with paint. That gets off excess before you apply the paint to your stencil. I hope that helps.
Way too fast! Why are you not talking?
This was a reel from Instagram.
Thanks you girl....... ❤❤🙏
Thanks, you’re the only person who made sense and gave me the proper tools to paint my cabinet. I am redoing a cabinet with metallic paint. Thanks again!
Oh wow, I am glad this video helped you! I will be doing a new video soon on MM so stay tuned.
hi Can I use stencil creme on a resin surface. I have bronze curtain rod finials that are bronze with a raised embossed design and I would like to color the raised area gold. I have plenty of gold stencil creme but cant find anywhere that is says if the creme will stick to resin. Thanks :0)
Hi. If it is old resin that it might work. I have painted old resin furniture from the 70's. You know that furniture that looks like it came from Las Vegas. I have also painted metal. What I do is scuff sand first. Then paint with good undercoat. I am not sure I would use the stencil cream as paint. You might want to paint a base paint first before the stencil cream. But just make sure you prep your rods first. They would really need to be scuff sanded and prepped first. Pretty much anything can be painted - it all comes down to the prep. Hope that helps.
@@RitaShurmerArt Thank you so much for a great reply :0)
How did you do the top? I would be afraid of brush strokes in such a large area.i always struggle with that anyway. Thanks. Great video!
You want to use a really good brush. With metallic paint I recommend using a high quality synthetic brush that you can buy at the hardware store. Also, go one way with metallic paint. I think I talked about that in the video. You don't want to go back and forth like you do with chalk paint. Metallic paint needs to be treated differently - more gentle. Once you do it a few times you will get the hang of it - no worries. Thank you!
Thank you for this thorough explanation...this is the best video by far..I wasted a lot of time watching useless videos.
I'm glad it helped you!
I never heard of waxing until now. Maaaan, is this beautiful!😍
I never heard of transfer either. I can’t get over how beautiful this is.
Most of my furniture gets waxed as that is my favorite look. I have lots of how to videos on using Annie Sloan wax.
I’m going to search your videos to see if you ever used these metallics for stenciling & what brushes you recommend. It appears all the stencil brushes I find online have natural bristles. I’d love to create a Victorian wallpaper look. Cost and skill level are intimidating obstacles to counter.
Yes I have used them for stenciling. You don't have to use stencil brushes, you can use small sponges. You want to use the kind that have tiny holes. The dollar store sells them in the makeup aisle. They are for foundation. The trick is to dab off some of the paint first, before dabbing the stencil.
@@RitaShurmerArt You ROCK! Thanks! as soon as I am done figuring out if I want pearl white or oyster, & where I’m going to get the best bargain online here... I plan on binge watching more of your work. Thank you! 🥰
Very Helpful!
Thanks!
Hi how did you apply the top coat and what is it exactly?
This is sealed with black wax. Dark wax and black wax are great for aging/adding depth and character. I use Annie Sloan waxes. You apply it with a brush and then wipe it off with a tshirt rag. I have lots of videos on here about using wax. It's my favorite sealer. Most of my furniture creations get waxed. www.restyledrenewed.com
Do you have a picture of the finished product? it looks really cool
You can check out all the acrylic pour furniture pieces I have done on my Instagram account - rr.artstudio. Or my website www.restyledrenewed.com. Thanks!
Beautiful color & pattern!
Thank you! Thankfully it is easy :)
I don't quite understand what happens if you use chalk paint as the bottom coat, and oil based primer as the primer (I love Kilz stain blocker oil based primer)
I was talking about how chalk paint underneath the MM metallic paint can cause issues. If you aren't having any problems with the oil primer, go ahead and use it. MM office told me that latex primer is best underneath their metallic paint. I was just passing on info. Use what works for you with the metallics. The issue with the chalk paint was that the metalic paint was actually coming off the furniture when I went to put the topcoat on. It was a disaster. If you find the oil primer works, that's good.
Is that bling bling you are using along with the boho kilim?
No. That is a custom mix. If you can find a paint retailer that carries the Bungalow 47 base, they can mix up any color you want! That was a blue I asked them to mix up from a different paint company.
Great video! I subscribed!!
Thanks!

Can I ask how your mixer has traveled the past year with the transfer
I didn't seal it and it's fine. I don't use the mixer a lot though. Just wipe it down with a damp cloth and transfers are fine.
How does it blend? I am planning on a red/pink metallic ombré for an Art Deco vanity.
I never use MM for blending, just chalk paints. I would say practice first. I don't think that it will blend well at all. Totally different properties to metallic paint. Chalk type of paints are better suited for blends.
Restyled Renewed thanks that’s the conclusion I was coming to.
Thanks a lot dear.. l love you painting and the floral design you transferred 😍😍. Please I would like to ask where l can buy transfer paper like the one you used ?? Thank you 🙏
You can buy transfers on Etsy. I don't sell them anymore. If you click "prima redesign transfers" in Etsy, all the people who sell them will pop up. There are retailers who have stores throug the US too. You can go to the Prima website and look up stores too. There are Prima retailers across the globe. Thanks
Will a water based primer work on MDF wood without it making the wood buckle or bubble?
You can use a water based primer, yes. It will not buckle on mdf. You aren't coating a ton of it and it isn't sitting on there soaking in. You are just brushing it on. I would highly recommend you scuff sand though before doing any painting. If it looks like it has a coating on it - like a lot of the 1970s furniture (they look like they have a gloss finish on them) just scuff sand first so that the paint will stick. Otherwise paint just slides off. A lot of the old furniture is fake wood and has a very high glossy finish. All that should be scuff sanded first. A quick sand with 220 grit.
