Hi there, thanks for your comment. I was silly enough to sell all my modeling gear...and bought another FM3 last year. Really stupid but I needed the time away from that ecosystem to miss it and appreciate it. I now use the FM3 with an 'amp in a pedal' (Ashdown Newt) and a Zilla Cab Fatboy 212, and that is perfect for me. So I no longer have the Laney, otherwise I would gladly record some dirty tones. Now for those kinda sounds I can really recommend the Austin Buddy Gold Pack+!

@@PatDeJongeSoundwise TY for my first reply in decades of comments on UA-cam, I just bought two Laney 112s. I use a Fractal FM9 Turbo. I've used a Quad Cortex and think the FM9 has more features. Since most of what I play is OD or with mega gain, I've tried a tube amp and SS amp in stereo, and have had many amps over the years. I was playing through powered JBLs and it was nice bu I'm hoping the Laney will give it moreof a deeper, ballsier tone. I miss the feedback from a tube amp, but hate pedals/cables/pedal board stomping. Thanks for the video and responding. Cheers, bro.

@@loudguitarist Hey buddy! I always reply, that's why I have this channel, I want to connect with other players. I'm a bit jealous of your FM9, I miss the buttons...My FM3 is extended with every Boss pedal, switcher and external button I could come up with. I think the FM3 is great in the studio and perfect if you program it as: one song, one preset. But I am constantly kicking in and out effects and that is a challenge with the limited buttons. I use the FM3 for a 'one man band' thing that I do, you know: a Boss RC600 looper, keyboard, drumpad, guitar and vocals. The pedalboard should be small and easy to lug around, so I opted for the FM3....but with everything attached to it now I would be more compact and streamlined with an FM9. Guitarists and their problems... As for the feedback and all that 'real guitar in the room' stuff: I hear you. For regular r'n'r gigs I use standard pedals and a tube amp, with a Gigrig switcher. That always sounds good...but it's a drag to haul around :) Take care bro!

Not much other shape than the Paramount but complete other sound from both.

Thanks for the video, I think this is a super relevant side to using modelers that is not talked about! The solution could be getting a small, pedal-format power amp, feeding an IR-free signal from the FM3 to it and powering a 1x12 guitar speaker cab. I am not a fan of FRFR cabs at all. They behave totally differently and lack the dynamics of a real guitar cab powered by a real guitar amp. The Kemper powered speaker was supposed to get close, at least that´s what Christoph Kemper had told me before its release, but when I tried it, I wasnt impressed.

I have a Classic NX and an Alex Machack NX 6 both came with the NX Venture bag. I don't like the maple neck of the classic because it's too sensitive to environmental conditions and expands and contracts more than I like. The Machack has an Indian rosewood neck which feels really good and I love the sound with the custom Michael franks pickups in HSH configuration which are low gain and sound creamy. The thing I wish I could do over is the classic because the frets are like knives. I have had a tech do work on them and it's still just uncomfortable. I am thinking about selling it and saving for something else... waiting for the next season of strandbergs, Everything in the line up is all high gain and that is not what I need. The classic was a good in between option for tones, but the alternative version is a different color I don't like. I have the Malta version... just wish I could trade the whole neck for a rosewood neck.

The noise gate on every fractal product is simply awful, it reminds me the old time of Line6 entrance in the market where i used to completely shut it off to make it sound « real ». Once it is admitted it’s worth to tweak everything a little .. EQs, gain, and all the incredible parameters that are inside. I’m the user of an AX8, and despite it’s the older generation it gives me full satisfaction. I’m still amazed of the incredible amount of quality and possibilities in tone shaping inside an only one product. I really love it, and on some amps and complex meltings and tweakings, I even manage to gel some realistic feedbacks at low volume on studio monitors, on a PA we are near to the Grail

Are you still happy with the Laney 112? I have an axe iii that I run thru EV elx 12 tops and have been finding the same thing you mentioned. A lot of tweaking to get what I want to hear. Thinking about getting two 112 or two 212 Laney frfr cabs. . Wondering if you could play back music thru these like a backing track or if that would get colored? I have tried the kemper cab with kemper unit as well as a mission engineering cab with kemper. Did not like either. Especially for high gain. Anyway just curious if you ever bought a second one for stereo.

Hi Mike. I have been on a journey with those modelers...I did a video with some decent recordings of a live gig explaining why I will no longer be using a modeler live: ua-cam.com/video/de75qPDyiwM/v-deo.html Since then I sold the FM3, got a Quad Cortex...sold that one too en bought another FM3 (the Turbo). For my rock band gigs I'm now using a BadCat amp and a Gigrig G3S with a dozen pedals and I'm happy. In the studio here I'm using the FM3. I also have a 'one man band' looping project, and for this I also try to use the FM3.. but I'm struggling. I have to invest so much time to get a sound that I like when I'm playing...I'm getting desperate and may end up selling the FM3 again, and getting the new Laney 'amp pedal' and a few standard pedals. The Laney LFR is just as good as it was at the start, it's just for me, as a player, I can't find a sound in those modelers that inspires me when playing live. It's all very controled and neat, but I need the unpredictable feedback, the interaction between cab and guitar. I can't seem to get that with a modeler, any modeler. The Laney can be set to PA mode, so then it's a wonderful (expensive) bleutooth speaker :)

Even standing up, with a regular cable, the jack and cable are sitting against my right leg. I've gotten used to it, but now you've mentioned it it annoys me actually. So I switched to a 90° jack and when running the cable through the inside of the strap it's fine. You could ask Jeff in one of his live streams about the output jack. He'll probably tell you that reprogramming the CNC machines is too costly.

The 50's neck are the fattest. Just like with the Gibson models. It's actually very fat :)

I ditto your experience. Much can be said about the OOBE experience got Tchas. And kudos to you as it takes courage to be honest.

Thanks for your comment! I'm glad I was not alone in this search. Actually, quite a few people reached out with their experience. Seems like we sometimes feel 'embarrassed' admitting we can't get the sound we were hoping for with these units. And I believe that should not be the case, these things should sound decent out of the box. They're not cheap :)

nice playing, bro. i keep swinging between the kiesel and the strandberg like a pendulum..

Thanks buddy! They actually are not too far apart. I played a few gigs and to me the Strandberg is a tad more versatile. I did find the perfect bag for the Kiesel, a Mooer headless guitar bag, fits like a glove.

I very glad you were able to crack this. Yeah the learning curve is quite high on the unit, in my case when I got the axe effects, I bought the Cooper Carter configuration class with it so all that was covered in the setup on his videos for me so I didn't have to experience what you experienced even though I would have had the same problem without that. Sounded so good I broke down and got an FM-3 for live. Absolutely love what you had at the front end of this recording That sounded awesome

Thank you man! I just bought the tonepacks from AustinBuddy and that helped me even further. Can you point me in the direction of thet Cooper Carter class? I haven't heard about that. And thanks for the nice comment about the playing, really appreciate that!
