Ba é Dónal ó Liatháin (1934-2008) a chum an leagan nua-aimseartha den amhrán seo ag tús na 1970í ag úsáid fonn traidisiúnta a bailíodh I gCúil Aodha, Co. Chorcaí.
Eamonn MacDonncha - (The Fisherman’s song)

Written by the late Scottish singer/songwriter Andy M. Stewart. This song is about a ship and it’s crew that was lost to the sea. Coastal regions are all too often neglected when it comes to education and employment, forcing families and generations on to the sea. But with dangerous seas, and life- threatening storms, fishermen have never found these reasons sufficient enough to remain ashore. ...

Ba é Féilim Mac Cumhaill, a raibh cónaí air in Inis Ní, a scríobh an t-amhráin seo ag tús an naoú haois déag. Chuala mé an t-amhrán seo á chasadh den chéad uair ag beirt de na hamhránaithe sean-nóis is mó clú as Conamara - Dara Bán MacDonnchadha(nachmaireann) ar dtús, agus Pól Ó Ceannabháin ina dhiaidh sin. Mheas mé i gcónaí go bhféadfaí tionlacan a chur leis an amhrán seo. ‘Amach libh!!!’

This song was written by Brian O’Higgins from Kilskyre in Co. Meath, not far from where i live. O’Higgins was an Irish writer, poet, soldier and politician, who was a founding member of Sinn Féin, and served as President of the organisation from 1931-1933. It’s a song of emigration, and a warning against the social injustices and homesickness, that faced many’s an Irish emigrant in ‘strangers l...

County Cavan was hit hard by the great genocide which occured in the middle part of the nineteenth century in Ireland. In 1848, Irish landowners,(many under instruction from their English sponsors), evicted families from their homes to ensure they wouldn’t have to pay them or feed them, after the potato crop failure of the previous year. This song was based on the first hand accounts witnessed ...

Ba é Antoine Ó Raifteirí, an file agus fidléir dall a rugadh i gCoillte Mach i gContae Mhaigh Eo sa bhliain 1779, a scríobh an t-amhrán seo. Tá sé ar cheann de na hamhráin ghrá is áille a cumadh riamh sa nGaeilge. Bhí muintir Taffe mar phatrún ag Raifteirí, ach d’fhág sé iad de bharr easaontais agus thaistil sé go fada fairsing mar bhard. Tá clú air mar dhuine de na baird taistil deiridh a bhí ...
Eamonn MacDonncha - (Vincent Gray)

Written by Eamonn MacDonncha. This is a song about mental health, and the dark reality of suicide, a subject that has touched far too many families in Ireland in some way or another. We all know Vincent Gray. He plays sport with us, he works with us, he sits beside us in our local pub. He’s our family member, and our good friend. Seek him out, and always offer a friendly ear. For the smiles of ...

I wrote this song in about 2007. It’s a fairly detailed description of my state of mind at the time, that some of you might relate to, or even bits of. I’ll leave it at that.

This song was written by Paddy Priest (Eamonn’s grandfather), from Frayne, near Kildalkey, in County Meath. Originally written as a poem, Eamonn put music to his words some years ago, and included the song on his second solo album ‘Somewhere near the Edge’ in 2022. A book of Paddy’s poetry was published by his family, shortly after his death in August 1986.

Written by Eamonn MacDonncha. I wrote this song about 25 years ago, sometime in my late teens. There’s an old demo tape of it too somewhere from back then , buried in a box no doubt, that I must root out sometime. I suppose it’s about a lonely man who’s getting on a bit ,who’s thinking about the one that got away, and what might’ve been. It’s one I’ve always liked, and decided to record it rece...

Written by Eamonn MacDonncha in the year 2000, about John Boles from Clonmel, who was married to Eamonn’s aunt Máirín. John died suddenly in Sept 99’, at the age of just 59, and Máirín died herself in 2007. This song is a tribute to both of them really, for the great memories they gave us all, memories that we’ll treasure forever. May they rest easy.🔵🟡

Shocking how our ancestors were treated. The same happened here in the Western Isles with the clearances. Breaks my heart when I was trying to explain to my four year old grandson the hardships of our ancestors.

For those who enjoy singing along: The May Morning Dew How pleasant in winter to sit by the hob Listening to the barks and the howls of the dog Or in summer to wander the wide valleys through Or to pluck the wild flowers in the May morning dew Summer is coming, oh summer is here With the leaves on the trees and the skies blue and clear And the birds they are singing their fun note so true And the flowers they are springing in the May morning dew The house I was reared in is but a stone on a stone And all 'round the garden the weeds they have grown And all the kind neighbours that ever I knew Like the red rose they've withered in the May morning dew God be with the old folk who are now dead and gone And likewise my brothers, young Dennis and John As they trip trhough the heather the wild hare to pursue With their joys they were mingled in the May morning dew
❤❤😊😊
