FAULTY Electro Harmonix KEY 9 pedal! Can we fixed it...? Part 1
I recently got hold of a second hand Electro Harmonix KEY 9 Electric Piano Machine EHX pedal. However the sound selector switch is faulty and randomly chooses only a couple of the available sounds.
Have you had this issue (apparently it's not uncommon) and, more importantly, do you have any solutions and know how to solve this problem?

PCM 60 SHOOTOUT! BETTERMAKER BM60 VS PULSE BY WAVE ALCHEMY.

So, which of these two Lexicon PCM 60 plugins are worth getting for your vintage digital reverb arsenal? Sure, the brand new Bettermaker sounds undeniably awesome, but it don't come cheap... and Wave Alchemy have a range of great emulations, but is this one quite up to scratch? It's not really for me to say, as it's all subjective and down to personal tastes - but despite all that, let battle c...
FRONT DAW Version 3! An old favourite has new features, but is it worth the it?

I'm irritatingly fussy when it comes to so-called analogue style "grit" but Front Daw has been a favourite saturation plugin of mine for a while now and the lovely folks at UnitedPlugins have given it a little upgrade - free in fact, for existing users! Bless 'em! unitedplugins.com/FrontDAW/ Here's a quick look at the version 3 and I see if it's still worth getting...
FREE Softube VCA Compressor! Sounds great, but a few glitches and issues. REVIEW & PLUGIN TEST

A very quick video looking into the VCA Compressor from Softube, based on the legendary 1970s DBX160 or DBX160A, which is free to download until Mach 31st 2024. Overall, this sounds brilliant, looks fantastic and is really simple to use. My only negatives were due to experiencing a few glitches and issues with installation and the plugin appearing as a black box when first opened... which rathe...

It's currently Black Friday 2023, as I'm writing this, so the 'deal' element of this video is a bit time sensitive, but I've also given my thoughts and a few examples of this new UAD Sound City Studios plugin here. VoosteQ Model N Console -Mixing Examples

Following my last video, reviewing and giving a brief overview to the VoosteQ Model N channel, I've quickly thrown this together to give a few different examples of what the plugin can do on various instruments in the mix. It seems to handle itself really well on almost everything here and there weren't really any factors it couldn't deal with extremely well, at least on this track. What do you...

Oh man, I've got the exact same problem! (I also have a b9 pedal without that issue), I hope I find a way to fix it. BTW where did you find the replacement part?
For the love of god just give us an a/b
Did you get it fixed?
GE is German Tube Console - not 'Germanium'.
Cheers for the correction @Macaroni108 That's good to know - I must've presumed it was Germanium pre's at some point!
Sounds great! I follow the N Channel up with the Neve MBT setting on my Kiive NFuse on the masterbus to get that Neve sound all the way. I never mix my SSL/API/Neve channels since I try to work as if it was a real console. Just a little funny idea I have since the days I worked on real consoles 😊. At the mastering stage I do blend in a bit of TC Electronic System 6000 MD4 processor, Kazrog Avalon 747, PSP E27 eq and again the NFuse on mastering mode though.
Thanks @jenslempke7883 That is fascinating to know. I love hearing what setups and workflows other people use. I, similarly often try to stick to keeping things as authentic as possible, (even down to plugins based on gear from specific studios/eras) especially as this is the closest I'd get to owning the real things :)
This plugin saw me through many dark sessions The MG or "Tape" sounds alot like Nomad Factorys Magnetic sound 👍🏻😊both favorites i use in every session
Cheers @silentalliance3269 I haven't tried Nomad's Magnetic Sound, but I've been quite impressed with some of their other plugins lately
whats the difference between using a channel strip plugin rather than lets say an 1176 and a pultec?
Thanks for the comment @campar1043 ...I guess a channel strip is more 'ease of use' and having everything at hand. In the plugin world it's simple to add an eq and comp of your choosing, where as in the old days you'd have to patch those old rack units through. The channel strip would essentially be on every track of your mixing desk :)
My new favourite strip. The punch and clarity you can get out of it is top notch.
Yeah me too @jenslempke7501 - I'm glad you approve
The Pulse sounds more like a 60 to me.
Thank @DonHalli that's really good to know - I've not been lucky enough to try the actual hardware in real life
Thanks for this - unfortunately without 'contour' set to flat, its impossible to compare them accurately.
Yes, a good point @Rhuggins although, I was trying to match bass/treble/both/flat options where possible, you're right - perhaps flat across the board would've been a better choice. Thanks for your feedback - genuinely appreciated :)
Thanks a lot!
You're most welcome!
Ah also set contour to flat to compare both
Cheers @Rudigervocals - I did try to match bass/treble/both/flat options where possible, but you're right - perhaps flat across the board would've been a better idea. Thanks for your feedback - really appreciated :)
Pulse does have width control
Oooh, really? Am I somehow using an outdated version here, or have I just completely overlooked it?
@@daffurnsounds2495 It definitely has it in the latest version
Wow.. lindell doesnt stand a chance
Yeah @panumattila1253 I'm afraid the Lindell is just unused and gathering virtual dust on my computer now!
it is deffinetly worth it
Absolutely @patovega ! Glad you agree! :)
Nice, gonna try it.
Do it @angelocherymusic you won't regret it!
Does it limit too?
Hey @dustin9893 Good question... The ratio goes up to 6:1, so you can hit things pretty hard, but I'm not sure it would be actual limiting. Perhaps they'll do an update with that as an option one day
This is a game changer. It's the closest to the real thing!
这个插件占用资源太严重了!只能看看 ……
Not loving that attack on drums. Good for other instruments though.
Yeah, I know what you mean @petefaders - certainly wont be my "go to" for drums - it's so heavy handed, but I do really like it on bass especially
@@daffurnsounds2495 👍
This has wrapper issues in Fl studio - doesn’t open for me
Ahh, sorry to hear that @princewillekene550 seems like quite a few people are having problems with this plugin
I gave up the moment when I saw the BS of using their plugin manager i think. I mean it would be okay if I had to register but installing another bloatware on my PC, ah no thanks!
Yeah, I completely get that @freaky425
y'all got some more pixels?
Haha!!
Whatever. This compressor free release was to get everyone to download their plugin manager. We all have a comparable comp already just as good. My computer doesn't support it. What a surptise,
You might be right there @chrisbraddock2825 - It is indeed a really nice compressor, but I'm not the only one who's getting tired of plugin managers cluttering up my computer. However, I already had this one anyway!
@@daffurnsounds2495 If you click "Support" at the top of the Softube webpage you'll see a link for "Installers" where you can download the individual installers without using the plugin manager
I'm on cubase and for the life of me can't insert my license in the box, can't even paste it.
Ahh, I'm sorry to hear that you're having problems @doremind1 - I've just check mine and can't even see the section where the license goes anymore, so I'm not much help I'm afraid. Maybe try emailing their support? ... or if you can, perhaps try enlarging the scale of the plugin's GUI in case there's a 'sweet spot' to click in the box?
this is a great channel strip one of the best for that 3D sound
Absolutely @thomasyoung5680 - I thoroughly concur!
Try Arturia Rev-636! It sounds almost like true analogue DRIPPY watery reverb! Perfect for surf-rock guitar! Would be great to see your comparison video. Spring Box vs Rev636!
ua-cam.com/video/tNMCQBPDlT4/v-deo.htmlsi=1GKOlWMo5MqbAMj7 In this video you can get the idea how spring reverb sounds.
Ooh, thanks @DemiAndHisSyndromes I haven't tried that one yet, but I really love their 140 Plate, so I shall give it a test and try and do a comparison video
31 style EQ on Console 2 sounds fantastic. I A/Bed against a few other EQs I have and love, and ended up using this on some of my tracks instead.
I know what you mean @AlecBridges ! I keep doing exactly the same thing!
digital just cannot do distortion its a digital mess when pushed, rest is ok the eq etc
Yeah, I know what you mean @saren6538 It's not as awful as it used to be, but it's still not right is it. I wonder if it will ever match up as tech improves?
I love this on buses.
Thanks for the comment@1loveMusic2003 It's particularly good on busses isn't it!
Great song!
@RaunoPaananenAudio Thanks dude! The band is Vonhorn, and the track should be out later in the year
Emulation of Japanese NEVE console. It is unique in that even the transformer type and gear condition can be changed. Of course, I purchased it.
@tana7779 Thanks for the comment and glad you approve too!
Hope Someone makes a vs with acústica audio
@hugosilva1078 Yeah, I'd like to see that too - unfortunately I don't own the Acustica stuff myself.
There is a lot of buzz about this EQ and just listening to the reviews I can see why. Maybe they will make the GUI brighter in an update. So I was searching for how it would sound on a kick and I got my answer. It sounds great. In comparison to the Lindell ...well the winner is obvious. Some would argue that a bit more tweaking and you could achieve a closer match but man...The cpu efficiency is a good sign that this plug will gain more popularity. Now keeping the same settings as you cycle through different models is very clever.
Cheers for your comment @WayneDawkinsThePartyMan Yeah, fingers crossed for that brighter GUI update - it's a good job I'm not anywhere near cool enough to wear sunglasses in the studio! You're probably right about getting a better match with a bit more time tweaking, but somehow this plugin just seems easier to dial in those tones really quickly. Glad the vid was a bit of help with your kick. Merry mixing :)
Oh Yes@@daffurnsounds2495
I actually love the Lindell 80 just on my mastertrack/mixbus etc with basic settings, I will buy this one as a few good reviews on here and not too expensive. Just got the UAD API Vision channel strip and it is really nice on various things also.
Thanks for your comment @just2comment2 Yeah, there's nothing wrong at all with the Lindell 80 - everyone's got their preferences and whatever works best for your setup. I just got the API channel strip too! Wonderful isn't it! Merry mixing :)
@@daffurnsounds2495 The Lindell 80 goes well with the Lindell 50 (API), depending on the source material . . . I also Love using the Lindell 80 with the NoiseAsh Need 84 console . . . The L 80 is a Neve 8028 and has a strong Low and Low mid focus, and the Need 84 rounds it out very nicely.
Everyone speaks of high CPU usage.... I can only afford one or two uses.... get your base sound, on a paralell, commit, print, move on... no more CPU wastage, work around the problems as engiineers have always done. If you have printed but fucked up, you can go back and try again.... stop being entitled little twats, audio is about learning how to get good sound quality, if that is too hrad for you, a more powerrful computer ain't going to solve your laziness.
I couldn't agree more @jemwand2530 You're very right. Especially given the fact that so many people are trying to recreate that analogue style work flow these days, but part of that process is to commit to sounds, embrace the limitations, experiment and be creative. I fear our entitled attitudes and endless options are actually working against us in many ways. Thanks so much for your comment - really appreciate it :)
Any reason why you are using one input for preamp and not both R + L ?
It's because these examples are on a mono tracks, therefore only using the one side - If you use the plugin on a stereo channel, or stereo buss, etc you will see the two cables using both L & R on the GUI. It's another nice little bit of attention to detail :) Thanks for your comment @SuperDeadbeats
Line input for the vocals? (Also, those background vocals are SO nice)
Thanks for the comment @who_is_dis I think I just used a SM58 straight into a Tascam US 16X08 for the vocals - you're right I could've switched to the mic rather than the line input and it might've made a nice difference with the preamp. Thanks for your kind words about the backing vox - much appreciated :)
Excellent review, thank you. I have had some previous experience with an old hardware spring-reverb (Many years ago, a big metal box I can't remember the name of), and you're quite right; the PSP is too 'bumpy' compared to what that old thing sounded like (Although you could probably build a hardware that had that sound) The Klanghelm is much closer to how I remember the hardware sounding. The hardware I experienced wasn't really very 'springy' in its sound, but sounded closer to a plate-sound (Except with more 'rolling' back and forth of the sound) than the very jittery sound you got with the PSP. I have not tried the Klanghelm yet, but judging by your video-examples the Klanghelm sounds very much like the hardware I tried (The hardware I tried was the size of about a big speaker or a standard PC-cabinet. I can't remember the name of it, but inside it there were 3 springs hanging next to each other, not very tightly strung up but quite loose, so you had to be very careful when moving the box physically or it would make a ton of noise as the metal-springs started dangling around :) )
Hey @JELmusic Really glad you enjoyed my video and thank you for the wonderful comment - that is fascinating stuff! It's great to hear back from someone who's had actual hands on experience with the hardware, and really interesting to hear that Klanghelm is hitting the mark with this. My only real experience with spring verbs is from guitar amps really, so I probably unnecessarily equate them with being a bit cheap and cheerful - the fact that the high end units could be so plate-like and rich is amazing. Cheers again :)
I got Sound City and the new C-Max limiter for $100. Killer deal on these banging plug-ins.
Congratulations @jimhardiman3836 I think you've made an excellent choice there. Wishing you merry music making!
comparison with the Noiseash stuff?
Hey @samz9121 I haven't done a video comparison yet, but from what I've experimented with the VoosteQ is a lot more CPU friendly, more smooth and less aggressive than the noiseash, as well as having the added bonus of the compressor and different consoles. I do love the character of the Noiseash one though too! There's a home for both!
Like you I got all Neve Plugins in the world & hardware clones but this one is very convincing. Instant buy. The workflow is fun and gives me great results in short time. Acustica Audio's new SALT EQ is very interesting too in terms of convincing sound and workflow, but it's just an EQ...here we have a very usable channel comp, and the output transformer section is awesome too!
Thanks for your comment @TheSaxjan Glad your having success with it too! I haven't tried SALT yet, but looking forward to giving it a spin. There's no doubt Acustica are incredible sounding plugins, my computer just tends to struggle with the cpu factor!
AFAIK Acustica worked hard on the cpu load. SALT is much less hungry and reacting very fast now. I switched to Reaper DAW some ears ago which made a huge difference with the Acustica stuff. But VoosteQ Model N you gotta compare to Acustica GOLD of course which is a fantastic sounding Neve collection. @@daffurnsounds2495

Thank @devilsposterboy Yes, you're right - it was indeed. This one just worked out nicely for those of us in the UK due to the dollar to pound conversion aspect. At Audiodeluxe there is a UA bundle called Signature Bundle where you pick up 44 UA plugins for £299. This bundles includes the Sound City plugin
It’s an awesome plugin but wow, it’s tough on your computer. I opened 2 instances of it and my computer took a dump :/
what cpu you have?
@@Maksitto one that must need an upgrade, lol. I don’t know a lot about computers but it’s an I7 with 16gig ram and 2x 1 terabyte SSDs.
Yeah tbh I’m confused as to why they didn’t include a DSP option. Kinda a big bummer especially for this CPU hungry of a plugi😢
@@TearFuel I think they are moving away from the DSP thing.

What is a "Crossgrade" deal? I have never owned a UAD plug/card and is the AudioDeluxe deal "Crossgrade" too? Seems like a huge saving so I'm not sure how they are doing that or if its legit. Thanks
@PromoMIAR Don't quote me on this, but I think the crossgrade deal is if you already own a UAD product/plugin. You're right, it doesn't mention 'crossgrade' on the AudioDeluxe website deal, so maybe it's not applicable. They're a trust worthy site though, and I've bought a few plugins via them - you might be able to email them to clarify if you're unsure
@@daffurnsounds2495 Yeah. I best be sure before buying. Good deal though (if its legit). Thanks
It states right on the site that the Crossgrade applies to those who already own at least one UA plugin
You should be able to the LA-2A for free on the audio deluxe and then cross grade using that….that’s what I did, managed to grab the vintage king deal before they pulled it…
Know if the Mix DRY/WET knob will be added for Mic placement Mode?
I don't know to be honest @PromoMIAR - I think the reason you can't blend the mix in MIC MODE is because it's simulating the re-mic'd signal flow. But you could always put it on a send/aux and blend the mix that way - that's what I've been doing :)
If you mix it in with your actual mic signal, you will have phase issues. That’s why you can’t use the mix function. It’s not designed to work that way.
Yeah I got it today and wow. That custom bundle is awesome
Congratulations @TearFuel enjoy! Hope you create some fantastic stuff!
If you got the pick two deal for $49… nice. It’s now $499.
I bought that and the distressor as a part of the 2-bundle for 108 euro...
Great buy for those two ugh I love their distressor
Did you buy fron Audio deluxe? I don;t quite understand how they can beat UAD directly by so much.
