Slide On X2 Military Truck Camper with pop top
Slide On X2 Military camper. Purchased for our big lap of Australia. We will post more videos and reviews as we start using it. The big lap will begin at the end of June 2022, and will take 6 months to complete.
I will be doing some minor modifications to the slide on camper before we head off, and plan to upload some videos of the process.

F150 Stealth Camper

A quick walk through of my truck setup that we've been stealth camping in for the past 12 months on and off.
Adding the accordion boot crawl through
Переглядів 16 тис.4 роки тому
This video is my attempt at installing an accordion boot crawl through. I called every kind of business in the neighborhood that did window replacement, rv repair centers, 4wd body shops etc, and alas NONE would install this for me. I'm a nervous nelly about car repairs, so this was a huge nerve wracking deal. It's been in use for over 6 months in the Seattle rain and hasn't leaked, so I finall...
Setting up the DAC full sized truck camping tent
Переглядів 21 тис.5 років тому
Putting up the DAC full size truck tent. It's a one-person, less than 5 minute job. I bought it on amazon, and paid US$150 plus shipping and taxes ($172 total). I only use it when i don't need to be stealthy. It adds so much room to our set up. My truck bed is 5'5", adding the tailgate gives an extra 2' of space. This campsite was mosquito hell, but they never find their way into the back of th...
Spoof packing my truck camper

This video is a spoof packing job to demonstrate the size and functionality of the truck camper. I'll upload a real packing video after I go on a real camping trip.
Stealth camping in an F150 truck camper
Переглядів 112 тис.5 років тому
This is a hyperlapse of installing my modular camper cabinets. I built this myself using scrap timber, mostly unused floorboards left over from a colleague's home renovation. I'd love to buy a big RV, but we're saving to one day buy a house of our own. This truck is my every day driver. No fancy tools are needed to put the cabinets together, just one g-lamp and a bunch of long 1/4 inch bolts wi...

Good option for starting overlanding. My first set up was very simply, but now I'm working in my new proyect for the next year. This is the link of my first set up. ua-cam.com/video/G9sLkFBFH74/v-deo.html

I used 3/4 pvc and put it on the strut. When you want to close it you just move it and the whole piston will slide into it. That way you don't have to take on and off.

11:07 - I would not say you are being "overly cautious." It has been my experience that any time someone thinks they can hold something in place (including me) to be able to mark more that one or two holes at a time, they are wrong. If you had had some clamps, then you could have clamped the piece in place and done all the marking. But, it seems obvious that you had a VERY limited set of tools available. So you do what you can. The screws are your best clamps. They CANNOT slip.

6:12 - A) They make plastic putty knives that won't scratch the paint, but also have a frikkin' handle, so your hand doesn't get such a cramp. I could just feel my thumb getting sore, just watching you struggle with that. B) If you put a bit of vegetable oil all over everything, it keeps the butyl from sticking to your tools, and keeps it from re-sticking to the window frame. In the end, it almost feels as if the oil is magically making the butyl come off. But, instead, it is simply making sure that every single molecule that DOES come off, never sticks back down. And, that is butyl's secret power. Take away it's secret power, and it is easy (easier) to defeat. Just make sure that there is always plenty of oil on the edge of the plastic scraper. Then, you just gotta clean off the oil with some dish soap, then some Windex, then some isopropyl alcohol. Does that take more steps? Yes. But more steps that aren't torturous is good.

I love watching the build videos done by women, because they tend not to hide the difficulties. Guys tend to gloss over the difficulties, so it looks easy on the video. Women tend to show us what it was really like.

Hey, thanks for the review. I’m thinking of buying one at Grey’s too, so was great to get the prices and your thoughts etc on it, and to find you lost only one rivet. Would be good to know what changes you made. How do you find it hard to push up, ? I’m going to be a single woman who is even shorter than you 😅 so was wondering if I will manage the pop top bit.

    • @odes20
      @odes20 Рік тому

I’ve just bought one. I push it up at the very rear in the middle near the entry door then just get on the bed , lay on your back and it’s really easy to pop it up by simply pushing upwards with both hands. To pull down just pull on the 2 handles keeping your head down as it pops down in rush at the end

It looks quite good for where it is manufactured and the price, but I agree the rivets look a little 'dodgy' (maybe a little caulking for reinforcement, or even one of those 'screw-in rivet tools').

Yup! We called every single manufacturer in Australia to put an order in, but the waitlists were all 9+ months long! Alas, no risk on production capacity expansion = no reward. We also tried buying 2nd hand, but nothing was available in the style we wanted. Entertainingly, we've already gone and finished our big lap before Australian manufacturers could have made something for us! I had read/watched a bunch of terrible reviews about these (all of which are by people who don't own one) so was really nervous before buying. But I can confirm that after a 20,000km trip, only one rivet needed replacing, and that was after doing a miserably corrugated stretch of road. I popped a bolt in the spot and carried on no problems. Nothing else shook apart, and we saw some pretty terrible quality roads in Vic/NSW due to rain. We did a huge internal renovation before heading off, but I'm a bit slouchy about making videos. Am doing a weekend away soon, might do a video of all the internal changes we made.

Hi We have had one of these for a while now with a few mods they are a great thing the adjustable bar is to keep the roof propped up as a safety thing though we have never used ours. The only bad point I have zippers are crap and you need to put marine hood liner on the roof to minimize condensation.
