Baja Bug Build
This video is a little bit bittersweet for me. My dream baja bug is finally finished, but it also marks the end of the original Rico Racing build. This car has been with me for almost 6 years now, and has been my passion project since I first bought it back in 2019. Thanks for all of the support, and thank you for the subscribers! It is amazing that the channel now has over 870 subscribers! Thanks!

well the issue with this car is that the chassis is really not the best design and is very heavy, and if i wanted to make it better i would have to start over anyways, so i might as well build a new one!

I have a 68 Baja and drive it in the mountains all over Colorado. I have a lever I made for pivoting the front end by myself and it works wonderfully. I made it from a piece of one Inch square tubing and a little piece of 3/4" square tubing and a little square of 1/4" sheet steel for the foot. I cut a 6' , 1" square tubing in half. So two 3' sections. And I welded the 3/4" piece inside one end of the 1" with a couple shims, and I welded the foot on the other end. And I welded a little step about half way up the piece with the foot from a 6" piece of 1" square tubing with a reinforced gusset. Then when I need to pivot, I put the two 3' pieces together and set at an angle below the front bumper and push forward like 90 degrees and as I'm pushing, it raises the front and moves the car over a couple feet. Then I separated the pivot tool and stash it in the frunk

If you arent planning to race or do any kind of crazy abusive offroading then you dont need to reinforce the suspension… for this car we added a 4 point roll bar for safety and overall chassis rigidity. For shocks, we used stock length KYB shocks. if you arent going to lift the car more than 2 or 3 inches the stock shocks should be long enough. everything we did to the suspension on this car was completely free and just required about a weeks worth of work.
