I've seen various versions of the Beat over the years but it was never "real" without Roger. Dave is great... maybe the hardest working guy in the music business... but without Roger it's just a watered down, high-school version. ONE time--in Austin, TX--Dave had a somewhat decent "version" of Roger in the line up. But it was still basically like a cover band version of the original. Still fun... but not authentic. I never got to see the "New" English Beat... but I'd imagine the vibe was similar... fun... but not the "real" thing without Dave. That lucky lucky audience there to see the New beat--that got to see ALMOST the original line up probably had no idea how lucky they really were.

Is pointless to see them live now considering there is only one original member left? I was going to buy tickets for a show with squeeze in the fall, but now learning they all died, but one. I love this band and all the bands that came from it.

I saw the English Beat with Dave about 4 years ago and they were so fantastic still.

So sad they could not get the whole band together. RIP to all we lost Everett, Saxxa and Roger

Heartbreaking when I see this. One of my favorite bands will never be again…… Met Roger in SF in ‘93 & Dave W up here when he did a gig in Nevada City. Still would’ve loved to see the whole band together again. 💔

I love this series of 'Bands Reunited' and, especially this one as The Beat are a huge influence on me and I still have loads of 7" and 12" singles and albums. I didn't realise, though, that Dave is right handed but plays left handed guitar and, Everett is left handed, but plays right handed drums!

The Beat were the best, but I can say as a musician, their songs are not easy to play, but they sure did it. The legacy lives on.

I’m so excited I’m seeing them play in Richmond this Sunday! My 19 year old daughter likes them too so we’re going together. First concert together and I couldn’t be more stoked then it being at The Beat concert!

I own a guitar named “One Finger Wakeling”. It is permanently tuned in the legendary “Save It For Later” tuning Pete Townshend and David Gilmour could not decipher. 😉

Years ago I did merch for a Neville Staples tour, the first night the band had guests Roger and his son plus Roddy from the Specials on board. The energy in the room was so great every night Neville played it was addictive. This is a fantastic series, I wish it was still going.
