I will be doing a welding comp this fall. Any tips for leaving nice shiny beads on aluminum?
Honestly I couldn't tell you without being there in person. It's a lot of trial and error to find the best settings and speed to make aluminum welds look nice. It also depends on the machine you use. So my advice is practice as much as possible and play with all the variables.

Learn to enjoy the process. Always be looking at what might be wrong and ask your instructor how to get better. I still look at every weld I do and ask myself if I did something wrong, and I try to find a solution to that problem. But don't beat yourself up while you learn. Take your time.

Well generally. There are different types of oil pans that are made, and lots of each one.

On those pans. Do you do the inside or outside first?
I do 95% of the inside first. There are some areas I can't get to until I take off the jig
How can I do that. I've not been mig welding for long so my welds look like crap
My advice is a lot of practice and trying out different settings, speed, and gas flow. Don't stop trying to learn. This isTIG welding. I don't think you can get this look or style MIG welding, but the same advice applies.

This is the kinda welding I've only seen faked or re-uploaded, but here is a whole channel of exactly this! As someone who learned to weld but is now an artist this right here bridges back to the trades being art, just on a larger scale. What is most beautiful about this piece isn't what it is, but its place in what it will become a part of. Yes, machinery is something one can love, it is the backbone of civilization afterall.
