Its focused on wealthy retirees, so if ya have mula then i guess its a place to live but lots of homeless too
…. Not to mention that the granary building was broken into , you can tell by the wood panels over the windows and front door.

Where that star is located in the thumbnail is not where Bellingham is located
Hi @tomtroy3792 You’re right! The thumbnail could definitely be more accurate. Thanks for pointing that out! I’ll make sure to update it to better reflect Bellingham’s location. Appreciate the feedback!
Blaine is beautiful!
Hi @karimhamir3420 Absolutely, Blaine is a lovely spot! The peaceful atmosphere and scenic views are definitely hard to beat. Glad you think so too!
I can guarantee this. It only rains in Bellingham on your days off work.
Haha, I know what you mean! The rain seems to have a knack for choosing the days I want to be outside.
I’m completely fine with all of these :)

Lots of gray days so if you have SAD you will struggle.
Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment. 👍
Thinking of moving to Bellingham from Phoenix for retirement. Phoenix is becoming unbearably hot! A little worried about the dark days since it almost is never cloudy or rains here. Looks like your state tax is favorable for retirees.
@mrmclovin6945 - As I share in a number of my videos, Bellingham and the surrounding area are a popular destination for people that relocate from placed like Arizona, California, Nevada, Colorado, and Florida, where weather is arguably better with regard to the number of sunny days, but often come with extreme heat, fires, and other unfavorable weather patterns. What we lack for in sun, we make up for in having a mild year round climate. For those living in the area full time, I think it's always a good idea to plan for one sun-filled vacation during the winter months to help you "weather" the gray and the rain. Congratulations on your upcoming retirement! How soon do you get to celebrate that milestone?
@@movingtobellinghamwashington I'm looking at 4Q2025.
There is always traffic, in fact Seattle is becoming L.A, traffic almost continous 24 hrs'a day.
Yeah, Seattle’s traffic can definitely feel like it’s nonstop these days, especially with all the growth the city’s seen. It’s starting to feel a lot like L.A., for sure. Do you have any tips for avoiding the worst of it, or are you just used to navigating the constant congestion?
@@movingtobellinghamwashington I think the best one can do is live near the light rail and then use one of those electric scooters. I see them on the train all the time, or hopefully have a job that allows work from home. Other than those ideas and a few others, not much can be done with out real road constuction.
I was in Bellingham this past week and per your recommendation went to “The Black Cat” and had the Gouda Chicken Pesto (great call). Also visited Anthony’s at Squalicam Harbor - thanks for your continuous videos; great content! Keep’em coming! Homes are definitely more affordable compared to Seattle and especially the east side (Bellevue, Kirkland)… but the Bellingham area has also become less affordable now. I don’t know why the PNW has always been so expensive compared to the Midwest and the South. I was also in Vancouver, B.C. and the cost of living was lower comparatively (Walmart, restaurants, everyday essentials - homes have become more expensive but the government has taken steps to stop foreign sales) even after factoring in for the exchange rate. Anyway, I will be revisiting the Seattle area again in March; will swing by Bellingham again. Last observation… I noticed there were are a lot of senior citizens residing in Bellingham (I saw them on the boulevard boardwalk, at the parks, near chuckanut drive lookout points) not a problem for me, just an observation considering there is a university in Bellingham so I was expecting a younger crowd. Anyway, have a wonderful weekend and my best to you - take care ✌🏼👊🏼
@Og_Ali_Baba - That’s awesome! So glad to hear that you enjoyed it and that you’ve getting to explore and become better acquainted with the area. Sincere thanks for taking the time to share! Where do you live presently? I’m not as well versed on Seattle, but have friends and family down that way who I’d be glad to reference for any recommendations you might need while you’re in that area. As you’re likely aware, there’s lots to see and explore at the pier, Pike Place, and Seattle Center, along with other spots like the Woodland Park Zoo, sporting, concert, and theater venues. I’m confident you’ll have a great visit!
@@movingtobellinghamwashington Good evening Jeff, thank you for your engagement. I actually use to live in the Bellevue / Kirkland area in the 1990s, as such, I am very familiar with Seattle. To answer your question, I currently live in Charlotte, NC. I had previously commented on one of your videos a few months back since you create excellent content and of higher quality. Plus, your YT shorts are also entertaining because you visit a lot of restaurants and take walks in the park; with your excellent choice of music (old school rap and hip-hop; good to reminisce ). To this end, when I began watching your videos over the summer I was interested in purchasing property in Bellingham but now I plan on renting for at least 1 year, first, before taking any action. Now, I primarily watch your content to gain a better understanding of the Bellingham and surrounding areas because you have a lot of insight to offer. I've learned a lot from you - thank you for sharing your knowledge. I plan on revisiting in March of 2025. Until then, wishing my best to you and your loved ones. Take care ✌🏼
Another problem is you can no longer tub the south fork of the nooksavk river because the natives decided that people floting on tubs kill the fish so if your white no floting the south fork ....but if your native it's all good you can tub the south fork ,ive lived in the area my whole life and the south fork is a good safe place to bring your kids to swim float on a hot afternoon. The city of bellingham sided with the natives so no floating the south fork unless your native. ...the north fork is to cold and swift it's to dangerous for kids and young teenagers
Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Steve. It sounds like the situation around the South Fork has become complicated. It’s important to find a balance between protecting natural resources and ensuring everyone can enjoy the river. I can see how this would be frustrating for families looking for safe places to swim. Have you found any alternative spots for floating or swimming with your kids?
@movingtobellinghamwashington it wouldn't be an issue except the city leaders said it's ok if the natives float the river but not the whites, it adds to the racism ..and the samon doant spawn untill after late summer...I think?
I live in everson about 20 minutes from bellingham. Mostly I like the area but the city counsel sucjs and the department of ecology sucks bad right now thay are suing everyone who has a water well. We think thay are trying to make everyone who uses water from the watershed to pay for water from there own property , it costed me 20,000$ to install my well and get it up and running , so if you move to the area bewere of the A holes that run the city and county. Thay really like your money and thay try at every corner to take it from you
Hi @stevepearson6316 I’m sorry to hear you’re having such a tough experience with local regulations and the city council! It’s frustrating when it feels like the system is working against you, especially with something as essential as water. Your insight is really valuable for anyone considering moving to the area. Are there any local groups or resources you've found helpful in navigating these issues?

I used to live in Blaine. I loved it! Great people! Now we live more inland. Still love where we live now. I would never ever move to Bellingham. Most people went fricken nuts during Covid, let’s just say true colors came out.😯
Hi @janiehutchinson2509 It's great to hear you had a positive experience living in Blaine! The community can really make a difference. It sounds like your current place is working well for you, too. I understand your feelings about Bellingham during the pandemic, it was a challenging time for many places. What do you enjoy most about your new home?
I'm the only artist-blacksmith.
Hey @Jason-hg1pc That’s amazing! Being an artist-blacksmith is such a unique and creative craft. What inspires your work, and do you have any favorite projects you’ve completed?
The cost of living started going up the day the Georgia-Pacific pulp-n-papermill closed, since that reduced the air pollutants, risk of chemical disaster and import of known carcinogens on an industrial scale. I moved here to finish high school (BHS, '89) and started working local Labor Union during the oil refinery turnarounds down south, but the city still had intermittent disaster tests that were attuned to possible train wrecks of multiple chlorine tanks, tidal waves hitting the oceanside paper mill (that expanded operations here during '90's because of shutdowns elsewhere) that is still an environmental risk despite closure due to some serious chemical operations happening on "infill", which is created land in the bay that turns to soup during an earthquake or volcanic tremble....certain siren patterns blared at night in public downtown, and thanks to Union employment, I learned that meant being prepared to head safely and carefully upwind w/enough supplies to await further news, and without looking back. Atomic war (50-60's) and chemical attack shelters were a set of archaic tunnels that met up under the high school I attended and I only know of their existence because I was assigned to assist the janitor when I first got in trouble after moving here from a major multicultural metro area (aka Sea-Tac). The end of high school and the start of adult life here also led to acknowledge myself as a cultural and racial minority the jocks and farmboys couldn't intimidate and the cops had no reason to profile, though they did anyway and obviously. The art and music scene enlivened the social scene into an actual community, one that includes WWU, whose graduates often remain in the community while describing plenty of deteriorating factors in those communities they've lived in elsewhere. Western Washington University attracted some intelligentsia that upgraded the collective community mindset just as the terrain and climate had attracted previous generations of flat-plain food growers and processors of oceanic resources (aka farmers and fisherman) w/out totally displacing the local Native/Coast Salish peoples, including Lummi, Nooksack and other canoe-carving Tribal societies, becoming truly familiar and sometimes family to itself. Now I have metal architectural works around downtown, where some friends have opened restaurants and others have played as bandmates and/or DJ's, the creative factor is undeniable among the locals, the social attitude is "laid-back metropolitan escapee", we're about as far North and West as you can get (until you board the Alaska ferry) on foot, there's still plenty of room and lots of work to do while appreciating that independents do well while collaboratives actually succeed and corporations only visit during summer break.
Hey @Jason-hg1pc Thank you for sharing such a detailed perspective! It’s fascinating to hear about your journey and the unique history of the area. It sounds like you’ve been a part of some significant changes in the community, especially with your work as an artist-blacksmith. The blend of art, culture, and the natural environment creates such a rich atmosphere. What do you think is the most important aspect of the community's evolution over the years?

Thanks for the information! I'm a RN and recently became an NP. Thinking about moving to Bellingham from Indiana in 1-2 years. I love the beauty of the PNW.
That’s awesome @CiaoColeG! Bellingham is such a beautiful place, and it has a great community for healthcare professionals. If you have any questions about the area or need tips for the move, feel free to ask! 😊
He missed the biggest reason for not moving to Bellingham....This is in a Democrat State! Seattle is toast and you will have a lot of the social problems and illegals moving into Washington.....DO NOT INVEST ANY MONEY IN ANY DEMOCRAT STATE! At some point, your home will become unsaleable.....
Thanks for sharing your perspective @henryvanderbeek2973! I know political climate can impact people's decisions about where to live. It’s important to weigh all factors when considering a move. What are some alternatives you think would be better?
it's a beautiful small city on the Pacific.
Absolutely! Bellingham has such a charming vibe and stunning views. What’s your favorite thing about the city?
@@movingtobellinghamwashington The people, beach and laid-back life.
More liberal than Seattle and Portland combined. If one is so inclined, enjoy.
Thanks for the input @ianmackenzie686! Bellingham definitely has its own unique vibe. It’s interesting how different areas can have varying cultures and politics. What do you think about the community there?
@@movingtobellinghamwashington Maybe unbelievable but true. About 30 years ago I rolled into Bellingham and stopped at the park near the bay. I witnessed two young guys from a distance who appeared to be having an argument. Well I was half right. As I walk past them I discovered that they were two deaf homosexuals having an argument with sign language. You can't make this stuff up. That will forever be my impression of Western Washington in general, Bellingham in particular😂
Don't forget that to get to the schools a lot of the people in the area have long waits at the train tracks.
Good point @beverlymiller3215! Traffic and train delays can definitely be an inconvenience for many. It’s always good to be aware of those logistical factors when moving. Thanks for sharing!

It's right there at the border with Canada...
Hey @drgta6! Do you live in the area?
Very depressing weather on that side of the state, I could not live there. Eastern WA, much more sunny.
Hi @garfield8900 Yeah, the west side definitely gets its share of rain! Each side has its own vibe, and it really depends on what you’re into. Thanks for watching!

Seems like they want rich people only. 🤔 The rent is too damn high! Was $700 in 2022 . 2023=$1401 . $2075 now. 196.43% increase in 3 years.🤔😬🤷
Hey @misteryudonnome, rent increases can be really tough to deal with. They’re often driven by factors like demand, property values, and market conditions. In places like Bellingham, high demand and limited housing supply can lead to significant rent hikes. It’s always a good idea to keep an eye on local housing trends and explore all available options. Thanks for highlighting this issue!
Thanks for your videos. Just bought a property for a small dog resort. Relocating from Tahoe. I'm so excited!!

Like the weather can be controlled. Geez. Get REAL!!!!!!!!!
Hey @bonniegarrison9741, you’re righ! Weather isn’t something we can control. Just trying to understand all aspects of living in different places. Everyone has their own perspective on what factors are important when considering a move or lifestyle change. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
Dont forget to mention all the homeless people camping out and stealing stuff
Hey @tonys901, it's true that homelessness can be a significant issue in many cities, including Bellingham. It's important to consider all aspects of a community when evaluating a place to live. Addressing homelessness requires complex solutions and community efforts. Thanks for bringing up this important topic.
This is a great list. Thank you for putting it together 😊
@Traderbear - It's my pleasure! I appreciate you taking the time to watch!
There used to be a Chick-Fil-A @ WWU in the VIking Building I believe.
Hey @davepnoble, that’s a great memory! Chick-Fil-A used to be a popular spot, it’s always interesting to hear about past campus landmarks. Thanks for sharing!
My dad went to college in Bellingham, and my brother was born there. That was in 1958. The weather in Bellingham isn't that much different than the rest of western Washington. "We don't tan, we rust." "When summer falls on a Sunday, we go on a picnic."
@debiconner6377 - That's awesome! I'm sure a lot has changed, both on campus and in Bellingham in general since he was here. Does your family still visit the area?
@@movingtobellinghamwashington No, I cannot remember visiting there. My dad is over 90 years old now, and my brother is 65.
I live in Bham, it’s a struggle to survive as a working man.
Hey @Nicball505, I hear you it can be really tough to manage the cost of living, especially in places with rising expenses. If you’re open to it, sharing more about what specifically makes it challenging could help others understand better and maybe find solutions or support. Hang in there and take care

You are just one irritating person. In your nasally way, you say ridiculous things about B'ham. It is a lovely place, with hundreds of things to do, places to go, people to meet. No, it is not metro, a big plus. Stop being so negative. BTW - rethink your hair style.
Just say snow, not "snow event".
Hey @user-bs1qk2ku7b, thanks for the feedback! I’ll keep it simple and just say 'snow' in the future. Appreciate the tip.
Bellingham. Bellingheaven. Bellinghome. If you have the money or if you dont have the money. I retired here but i waited five years senior housing. Worth it. It was a goal realized and a dream come true
@spencecurry - Congratulations on your retirement! I'm very glad to hear that you're loving the area!
I live in Arizona 6 month's of pure heat 🥵 hell the weather here would be great we get zero rain maybe like 10 percent this summer
@floydharden8315 - I've spent a lot of time in AZ, mainly the Phoenix/Scottsdale. Fall and winter are amazing. Summers leave a bit to be desired for a guy who grew up in the PNW. 😂
Bellingham is by no means is a major metropolitan area. I doubt thta many people would expect that Bellingham would have public transportation and an arts scene commensurate with most major metro areas. Your arguments about unemployment rates falls a bit flat. How many areas of the country do not have a major employer or dominant type of employment. Earthquakes are an issue anywhere out west just as flooding is in the plains states and back east or hurricanes along the eastern seaboard.
I appreciate your feedback @stevehunter291! 💯 Many places don’t have a single dominant industry. As for natural disasters, every region has its own risks. It’s good to consider all these factors when looking at a place, and it’s helpful to have a balanced view of what different areas offer and what challenges they might face
No mention of the mountains of people and their stuff living on those super neat public spaces like Cornwall park and anywhere along the waterfront. Trader Joe’s is such a cesspool of chaos with the raiding Canadians and their entitled consumption oblivion. Subdued excitement is more like some dude’s excrement.
Yeah @mrsj4780 ! I get it, those public spots can get really crowded, and Trader Joe's can turn into a madhouse, especially with all the people coming in. It’s definitely a challenge to keep things in check with all the hustle and bustle. Thanks for sharing your take on it
Dont move here, locals will hate you, believe me, I'm as local as you get. You people have destroyed Whatcom County!
