    We’ve recently had flush casements fitted, we’ve noticed the two slots for full lock and night vent, but can’t seem to get the windows to latch onto the night vent. Do you have any advise on how we can resolve this problem at all? Or what could be preventing us from being able to put it on night vent?

    • @mcdermottwindows9470

      Hi, usually this is an easy adjustment. The sash may be a little too far away from the keep to catch the second vent setting. Try move the sash over slightly by adjusting the hinge screws. Hope this helps and thanks for watching 👍🏼

    at 1:05:58 is that expandable foam to fill the gap between the door frame and the brick? Can you use silicon instead?

      Hi, the gap between the wall can be filled with foam or a foam backing rod. It’s recommended to fill this gap first before silicone. We use foam as it adds an extra hold, provides added thermal benefits and gives a base to silicone against. Hope this helps. Thank you for watching 👍🏼

    • @mcdermottwindows9470

      Hi, thank you for watching. The composite side panels are fixed in place using what’s called a side panel lok made from steel. These are a push and click system which are attached to the panel and frame. A very neat hidden fixing that can only be accessed internally with the correct tools and know how.

    We want to have our own choice of knocker installed, as solidor don't offer the one we want. Just wondering if drilling into the door and using our own could invalidate the warranty? If installers install the knockers themselves anyway then I would assume it's irrelevant whether or not it's a knocker supplied by solidor? Thanks!

    • @mcdermottwindows9470
      @mcdermottwindows9470 Рік тому

      Hi, thank you for watching. I would check with your installer and have them install your knocker. This shouldn’t be a problem however if fault or damage is caused due to the knocker then Solider wouldn’t provide a warranty.

    Can you not recip round the frame

    • @mcdermottwindows9470
      @mcdermottwindows9470 Рік тому

      Hi, that is an option but we like to do it this way to make sure we cause the least amount of damage to the brick face and plaster. There is more chance of chipping the face off the brick when taking the frame out in one. Also to note the dpc can be fixed to the frame so this would be pulled out with the frame if removed in one. It’s best practice to take the frame out in sections, it may take more time and effort but will save any headaches later. Thank you for watching and leaving a comment 😃

    Are there other ways to seal the window to the blockwork? I did hear of expanding tape and lining paper. If so is this an upgrade on expanding foam or just the same. Thanks for taking time to show us from start to finish.

    • @mcdermottwindows9470
      @mcdermottwindows9470 Рік тому

      Hi James. Yes there is a foam tape that can be used instead of silicone. We use the Illbruck Trio on the odd occasion and gives a very clean finish especially against a wavy stone. This product is applied to the window perimeter before installation. Once applied the foam starts to expand to create a neat weather seal. The sealing tape as well as sealing the gap provides excellent thermal insulation. This method does cost more than silicone and isn’t always practical to use for certain jobs. The biggest benefit for us in using the tape is it’s super clean finish not necessarily the insulation benefits as a lot of foams now provide excellent insulation benefits and the added benefit of holding the frames in place not just creating a seal. Checkout Tremco Illbruck on UA-cam. We also have a lot of installation images showing the tape on our Facebook page. I will have to film an installation on the next job we use the tape. Thanks for watching. Stephen

    I was wondering if it would have been easier to locate and unscrew the screws holding up the frame. Why did you need to cut the frame out?

    • @mcdermottwindows9470
      @mcdermottwindows9470 2 роки тому

      Hi Dave, thanks for watching. Unfortunately on this job the windows had the hidden cleat fixings and had the DPC fixed to the side of the old timber frame. Most of the time with timber we will take the frame out in sections. This will limit the damaged caused to the DPC, plaster and external brick face. Even if we managed to cut through the cleat fixings the DPC would of been ripped out with the old frame. Cutting the frame up allows for the DPC to be taken off the frame without ripping it out. Another problem with taken timber frames out in one is they have usually swelled over the years so are very tight in their opening. This means when removing the frame in one it’s possible to pop the face off the external brick which is never a good feeling. Hope all this helps and explains why we go to the lengths we do 👍🏻

    1:32:35 Appreciate the 'how to close it' discussion -- though the mechanisms might be simple to use, the best usage is not necessarily _intuitive._ Would love a simple demo of locking modes. Scenarios: 1) unlocked -- no key to enter or leave (say, kids or party guests are going in and out all the time); 2) locked, outside -- need key to enter, no key to exit (you're in the house and do not want to look for your key during a fire); 3) locked, both sides -- need key to enter or leave (you're away from the house and do not want to make it easy for burglars to simply walk out with bulky items).
