Even as i am writing this comment i am at work on standby because the waterproofing areas are not ready and hs2 is pissed😂😂

The problem are the clients most of the time i work for renesco and we are always fighting with clients because they provide us with poor surface and explaining to them that we cant apply anything there is a nightmare and all they want us to do is install membrane but they dont care about the fact that we are comprimising the quality of the waterproofing with poor surface

This video does a great job explaining what goes wrong, but doesn't bother to advise what works. I'm no waterproofing expert by any means, but I have devoted an incredible amount of time over the last 6months researching the issue and conducting at home tests. If you look at my youtube channel, you will see the problem I'm facing. Blindside waterproofing is very difficult. With that said, the latest and greatest thing on the market is HDPE membranes. Looking across the world, it appears china is the kings of subterranean building at or below the water table. From what I can tell, about 15years ago, they started using HDPE with some kind of sand based material stuck on one side of the HDPE. The concrete gets cast directly against the sandy side and 2 things happen. One is the sand provides a key for the concrete to grip to and then something chemically happens with that sandy stuff. SO it's either the heat of the curing concrete or the lime in it that activates something in the membrane. The chinese also offer an HDPE that only has a glue to do the bonding. As usual, some companies produce a better product than others. i had a sample of adhesive only HDPE that bonds to cast concrete with incredible strength. FWIW, the HDPE is around 1.4mm thick and the glue layer is .3mm-.8mm thick. One glue I came across from Oriental Yuhong would even make 3M a little jealous. So I have now started trying to find something here in the USA and the big dog on the street is Preprufe300r, a GCP product. I have not sampled it as a roll of this stuff is currently over $3,000! So I talked to CETCO and interestingly enough, they were VERY familiar with the membranes made by Oriental Yuhong. SO much so, they will now start selling something called VintegraP20 in Sept2023. I will be testing this as soon as it becomes available. Look up Mineralstech for more info on that one. The man on the phone told me CETCO invented what the Chinese now manufacture and have been using for over a decade. Now the last membrane on my hit list arrived today. Sika claims to be the world leader in this field. For my blind side cast concrete situation, they recommended their SikaproofA+12. It is an FPO with a polymer based sand on the casting side. Again, expect a mechanical and chemical bond to happen when concrete is cast up against it. I have a sample curing right now and I'm looking forward to the results in a couple of weeks. The stuff isn't as puncture proof as the HDPE, but it is very flexible and stretches. The take away, if you have a blindside situation such as mine, these are your options, PERIOD. The theory behind all of these full bonding membranes is when a leak happens, you can be assured it is leaking where you see it and it hasn't traveled 20feet between the membrane and concrete. This will save you time later if you have to repair the leak. A hole can be drilled at the spot and you can rest knowing you fixed it on the first try. Not sure why liquid EPDM would fail other than not putting the primer on. It's pretty elastic and you can layer it pretty thick. You could also not have to worry about screeding because the EPDM will fill the gaps and remain elastic. You would think that you could put a 60mil liquid EPDM barrier and encapsulate the entire exterior and it would be more water tight than a frogs ahole.

Nice 3D representations, but I do not agree on stating that TPO o PVC membranes do not work (or even bituminous ones). It is always required some kind of protection for the concrete so water doesn't corrode the rebars or damage concrete. Fully adhered membranes work perfectly since these can be either post o pre applied and the adherence is both chemical and mechanical to concrete. In severe cases compartment systems can be used to have a segmented waterproofing, so in case there is a punctual failure it will only affect one specific compartment. Several solutions such as wet applied membranes, fully adhered TPO membranes, PVC membranes with compartment systems. injection hoses and polyurea, among many others, might be the solution. Bituminous membranes stand approximately up to 0.5 bars, while fully adhered TPO membranes can stand up to 2 bars. It cannot be said that a technology doesn't work if you don't know the factors such as water column, water quality, durability expectations (service life), available budget, level of permeability required based on use type (according to BS 8102:2022).So, my recommendation, don't generalize, bituminous membranes in some projects that are not exposed to agressive conditions or don't require a long service life. Another point: if by any reason the membrane fails, you can always use injection resins as a corrective way to stop water in negative pressure.

La verdad que discrepo mucho de este video, somos una empresa dedicada 100% al uso de membranas de pvc en distintas áreas y sabemos que al ser instaladas por gente certificada no tiene problema alguno, hay nueva tecnología en torno a las membranas de pvc y la alkorplan C es la mejor para la cimentaciones, creo que hay que investigar mas y asi se tiene una mejor opinión.

Most of this is quite true for membrane failures, but there are many technologies for membrane protection that are great when installed correctly. Just relying on concrete admixtures, crystalline additions, other pore blocking technologies which is referred to here, is just 1 approach to watertight construction. But concrete cracks, and also has many placement considerations that can upset this also. Dry basement construction is about 3 types of protection as per British standard. 1. is membrane protection. 2. is integral concrete quality plus the joints / CJ's using waterstops. 3. Drainage design. This is a layered approach to dry basement design, and covers multiple lines of defense, as you say, application issues are common. You have to plan for success and have all parties working to a common cause. Having QA and hold points verified at key times, will improve any application. Adding pore blockers alone is perilous and disrespectful to understanding the overall dynamics of waterproofing.
