My 6 is fixed! BYD Sealion 6 EPB, CPD, ADAS errors part 2

After a month at the BYD service centre my 6 is back on the road, good as new. Service centre was great, booked me in straight away and gave me a new loan car (Atto3). *UPDATE* 2 days after this video the car failed again and went back to the service centre for 3 more weeks. Eventually BYD found one of the headlights was faulty and disrupting the communication network, so they've replaced it an...
My BYD Sealion 6 got sick! EPB, CPD, Headlight System & ADAS errors
Переглядів 9 тис.2 місяці тому
Sadly just 3 days after its first service my Sealion 6 fell ill. On startup one afternoon I got an EPB system error, a Headlight system error, a Child Presence Detector System error and an ADAS error. Vehicle remained driveable but I lost control of many functions. To date, my local service centre can't diagnose the fault and has referred it to BYD engineering. Fingers crossed it's a simple fix...
Engage neutral gear on BYD Sealion 6

Blew a tyre on a pothole last night and needed to be towed. For the life of me I could not work out how to put it in neutral. Turns out it's very obvious! BYD roadside assist were great and towed the car home. Sidenote - dealer quoted a new Giti tyre at $500, plus fitting, and could have it done "sometime next week". I've decided instead to replace all four tyres for something more common for o...

Can u change the sound of this?
No it's fixed
Mine sometimes goes in quiet mode aka no sound. Still haven’t figured out what causes it though.
The indicator sound will get overidden by any other system warning - like parking sensors or seatbelt notifications
Hi, do you know anything about the dashcam for the sealion 6? I removed the cover under the windshield mirror but I don't see the pre-installation cable, I'm in Italy
Hi there. My cable was wrapped in clear plastic tied with black fabric. Here's a picture of what it looked like imgur.com/a/1j7ESaU
@@Jeremy-di4ye I'll try to disassemble it, I don't think I've seen it, I bought my car in Italy, I think that for different destinations and different periods maybe something changes
@MrArchisat Yes that could be right. Do you have an Italian facebook group page for the car? We have a good one in Australia where people share knowledge and experiences.
How many Kilometres per litre does your Sealion6 run?
Mine's sitting at 2.2l/100km
@@Jeremy-di4yedoes that mean it’s 45km per litre😱?
@@VinexAesthetics Yes approximately. That economy is achieved by regularly charging the battery and driving around 75% of the time on EV.
You got a car on Sunday, I would have traded it back immediately
Massive financial hit if I did that as it's on a novated lease. The car's good as gold now. I'll pass it on under warranty but I have no doubts about owning it into the near future. It's not a long-termer though!
On your main screen you have a picture on your screen saver? How do you do that?
@Nightster7777 you need to put the photo you want on a usb and insert it into the slot under the centre console. Then go into the Utility Tools folder > file manager and choose the USB drive. Select the picture and choose "wallpaper"
You should do a video for it.😊
UPDATE: BYD believe they've traced the error to a headlight not operating within specification. Headlight's been replaced and so far the errors haven't returned!
Congratulations, fingers crossed that this will be the end of your ordeal, time now to enjoy the car. Happy New Year
Thanks so much for that tip about where to find the HUD height adjustment. I've looked everywhere including the manual and also asking Hi BYD. We took delivery of our Sealion four days ago and there is so much to know, but as with life, sometimes there are things you don't know that you don't know, and your vids have been a great fast track. Thank you.
How to insetol byd one up
@@DesalegnHalemaryam pardon?
Hello! I’m a bit new to cars, how do I switch my BYD from electric to petrol manually, regardless of the battery percentage? And do I always need to charge the BYD when it’s low on battery?
@VinexAesthetics you can't switch manually from electric to petrol whenever you want as the car is designed to use the battery until it runs down to 25% charge. However there are circumstances where you can get the petrol engine to turn on - such as accelerating hard, going up a hill, carrying a load, or telling the car to maintain a higher battery charge than 25% (SOC). I have another video here on saving a higher SOC. You don't have to recharge the battery if you don't want to as the petrol engine will keep it charged to at least 25%. So long as you keep petrol in the tank you could never charge the battery if you didn't want to! The car would still run fine.
@@Jeremy-di4yeThank you so much for the comment. Also one final question, in case I don’t want to charge it through petrol, I can charge it through the charger right? And how is the mileage for both electric and petrol for the vehicle? Sorry for asking too many questions:)
@VinexAesthetics happy to help! Yes you can plug the car into a normal power point using the supplied charging cable and the battery will charge in around 11 hours. I have a 7kw charger that charges the battery in 2.5 hrs. It's more cost effective to plug the car in to charge than to use the engine to charge. Total mileage with a full battery and a full tank is approx 1000kms. The battery range on it's own is around 80kms
@@Jeremy-di4yethank you! Gave a sub to the channel as well
@@Jeremy-di4yeOne more question I forgot😭, what’s the difference between HEV mode and EV mode? Just wanna confirm cause of the little button near the gear shift and what its purpose is if vehicle auto switches from petrol to EV anyway :))
had the same problem!
Quick question: Could you easily replace the tyres on the Sealion 6 with all-terrain tyres? Anything to prevent going to Bob Jane and swapping them out for something a bit tougher than the stock tyres?
I replaced mine with Yokohama Geolander. Not sure about all terrain tyres (as in chunkier tread?)
@@Jeremy-di4ye Geolanders are great. I meant something like the Geolander A/T G015. I wonder how much they'd impact efficiency. If driving a lot on gravel roads, adventuring a long way from home, would be nice to have the extra protection of the all-terrain tread.
The car worked well for 48 hours but is back in the workshop. It seems the service team can clear the errors but can't recreate them, so they're not sure what's causing the issue. I'm advised reps from BYD's Sydney-based engineering team will travel to Melb to personally inspect my car in the next few days. My car has been in the workshop now for 48 days.
I had the same problem for the BYD SEAL AWD when I took it for a test drive, just didn't know how to put the car into Neutral. Thanks for sharing that.
Im from indonesia and i had exactly the same experience with my byd. Then i call the byd call center in my country to get my car fixed. They have a good after sales services. And yup, they still dont know what cause the trouble. But the said, when the error happen, the 12V battery seems to drop. And then they re-configure the electric system of my car, and it works
Thanks for the information. Is your car fixed and back on the road? Could you give me the VIN so I can pass it onto the team here to look at what they did?
@Jeremy-di4ye i think the problem is from 12 V battery
Many thanks, you're a legend 🙏
So glad to hear that! Just passed 1000km on mine.
Except it broke again! The fix didn't stick. Taking it back tomorrow. They believe the issue must be in the wiring harness now.
Ahh no way!! So sorry to hear that mate. Hope they resolve it soon. I know how stressful it can be.
I've ordered a Shark 6 and this is my concern. Any repairs need to go back to the nearest service centre which is a few hours away. BYD have a real chance of taking market share but only if their products are reliable and they can spread their service centers out from the major cities.
@Johnno1979 the jury's out on reliability. There's a Sealion 6 Facebook group where I'm probably one of 6-8 reported issues where the service centre didn't know how to proceed. A number of other warranty issues that were able to be dealt with immediately by the service centre. Cars like these are computers on wheels now and you just can't duck into the local mechanic if something goes wrong and get him to take a look.
@@Jeremy-di4ye you would think by now they would have made some good diagnostic tools to identify faults. also, I am wondering if it is possible to pay BYD to install the new suspension that they are installing on the new builds, people sitting in the back are experiencing motion sickness. we are going to Ulladulla soon from Sydney, the wife is insisting we take her Mazda 3 instead of the SL6, otherwise she will pull the plug on our holidays 😞.
@@barracuda77777 sorry to hear that. Unfortunately current gen is not upgradable. If it's any consolation when our daughter was little we took her on the Great Ocean Rd in a Tiguan. Got to our destination and opened her door and she threw up on me!
@@Jeremy-di4ye As parents we just take it on the chin 🙂, Today I bought travel calm and placed it in the Glove box along with vomit bags that were placed through out the car. Hope you are back on the road soon.
I was gonna say perhaps the ETACS module, but yeah, glad it is sorted. Possible the body control unit had a assembly fault perhaps. something shorted out hence the blown fuse.. .who knows. Hope they didn't make you pay for that replacement unit though, as you mentioned the price of it.
No it was all under warranty - I just mentioned the cost to BYD of the part. Sadly however after 48 hours the errors have returned so it's back to the service centre tomorrow 😔
@@Jeremy-di4ye I am so sorry to hear, Hope they sort it 100% for you. Maybe they give you a new car if they can't fix it?
Likewise sorry to hear mate, please give us an update - the more pressure on social media these issues get, the more effort they'll put into resolving them quickly. Best of luck!
I'm sure that will be the end result once I've gone through the process if they can't resolve it. I guess it's just going to be a series of steps now - they know the module is causing the errors so what's causing the module to fail?
Thanks for update. Glad it all got sorted.
Excellent that the car has been fixed. Hopefully it will not have any more issues from now on. Thanks for the update.
Mate thats great news! My SL6 has a knocking/squeaking noise in the righthand front suspension/control arm/steering area. Sounds like a slightly loose/out of seat bush. It's taken 6 weeks to get it into BYD (not in until December 10) hoping they tighten something and send me on my way! Otherwise, I bloody love this car. It's awesome!
I had the same issue, now it's gone, done around 3500 kms. The car is driving smoother compared to when I picked it up. go figure.
I've ordered the BYD Shark 6 but this is my main concern with BYD. We are 200km from the nearest BYD Service centre and something like this would require at least 1 full day off work to get sorted with potentially my wife also required to bring me back if the car was needed for a few days.
I guess depening on where you live that could apply to any brand if you're 200km from a dealer. Any car brand can suffer break-down. With BYD the issue for me is the local expertise is spread thin, so if it's not a common problem it can take some time for a fix to come through. MIne has taken a month and I pick it up tomorrow.
@@Jeremy-di4ye would appreciate an update on the root cause of the issue. Thanks!
@janray1221 just picked it up yesterday! Good as new. Turns out the fuse was unrelated. In the end they replaced a $380 part called the "right body control module". Issues resolved! I'll post a video update this week.
I have the same problem, did they fix it?
Not yet - there's a BYD Specialist looking at it this week. Are you getting all the same errors and loss of function? Where are you based?
@@Jeremy-di4ye yes .. but i am based in egypt
please keep us updated
If you're happy to email me i think we should share info and see if we can help each other. My email is nessjez@gmail.com
Hmm. What do they say when you call the complimentary roadside assistance
Roadside assist would only tow it to a service centre, but I could drive it there myself (albeit without indicators!). Initially I thought it might have been the 12V battery so I asked roadside assist if they could replace that, but they can't.
I just saw the owner manual that it suggest first 2000km with 50% HEV driving distance, interesting
And also the owner manual was not in the car, only digital version? Or just mine? BTW, how’s you car status? Any update ?
@@zhipengxie679 yes only digital versions of the manual are available. My car is still in the shop unfortunately. Service team can't trace the reason for the fuse blowing and it's getting looked at by a BYD specialist who's visiting the dealership this week.
Thank you...
Just got mine yesterday, still getting used to it, sorry to hear what happened but seems like the service is quite responsive and quite okay. Please keep us updated
FW or AWD?
AWD
This make me nervous. I'm thinking about buying this car..
@michelebruzzese102 I take comfort in the fact that they don't yet know what's wrong with it - so it's a rare problem. They'll either work it out or give me a new one, but at this stage I have no regrets about buying.
There may be a reliability issue here. If it can be promptly fixed, that is a redeeming factor.
Such a poor user experience design
Thank you for sharing this. Hope the service goes well
It doesn't have any factory reset option?
@emcielo6735 yes it does but that didn't work
It's really a shame the hud doesn't do any more than tell your speed. It would be nice if they integrated it with maps and show which lane you should take
Agreed. May be a future update.
*while with your foot on the brake
Had my premium SL6 for over 4 months now first service this week car was fine so far
It happened to me too. Itd after the software update. Just switching off and s2itching on and also hard reseting the infotainment screen will fix the issue.
@unnijacob2807 I did the switch on/off and the hard reset. Neither worked. Thought it must have been the 12V but service centre says it isn't. They've had it 3 days and still investigating. They've been excellent however, got me in straight away and gave me a loan car.
@@Jeremy-di4ye glad to hear that they are prompt in diagnosing the issue.
do you know if theres any way to save your cars original software to a USB or Sumin, so when it "Updates" [ For no good Reason] you can just revert bk to Orig without having to call BYD Support 1am stranded on a Highway. can hopefully just plug in your USB from the dash board or glove comp... & keep it moving....
@@zechssiguro7476 not that I know of
Is it a car or a phone?
Do these things happen randomly? I'm starting to get worried.
Car is 4 months old and no errors at all until last week when these errors first appeared. Obviously there's a fault somewhere which I'm sure they'll identify and fix. Given the fix is yet to be found suggests this particular error is not common.

Is your car still in the workshop
@@bevis90 yes it is - will be 3 weeks Monday. A specialist looked at it early this week and tried a couple of things, none of which worked. I'll get an update today.

Thanks much for one. More tips please!
Would you suggest to use the engine to charge the battery? Let’s say if we are on the Highway from Sydney to Canberra and the battery is 25%, running on HEV could potentially bring the battery up to maybe 40% in 50-100KM, then switch to EV?
@zhipengxie679 doing that would result in fuel economy up around 10-11l/100km. The only reason you might consider doing that is if you were expecting some lengthy city driving at your destination and wanted EV power in reserve, in which case I would set 40% SOC in the SOC SAVE menu and choose "SAVE" before the battery drops below 40%. I have another video here about that. Otherwise if you're not expecting congestion at your destination just let the car maintain 25% SOC on the highway, then flick it to EV Max when you're 15-20 mins away from your destination charger.
@@Jeremy-di4ye so for this car, the max fuel consumption suggested 5-6L per 100km meaning you have to keep battery at full, and always charge it in order to achieve this 5-6L, please correct if I misunderstood.,
Sorry I misunderstood, basically maintain a higher battery %( in case I don’t charge I regularly, I am not considering extend the power outlet from house to front garage so potentially would charge 1-2 outside, this might change when I get delivery of the Sealion 6), should be able to main a reasonable fuel efficiency and battery usage. Thinking 50% Save mode, so engine would kick in then I charge at home( if situation changes or charge at the mall during shopping -have to test out)
@zhipengxie679 there's no advantage to forcing the engine to maintain a higher % charge in everyday driving. You're better off just letting the car run down to 25% and charging at home or at the mall when you can. If you drive this way you'll get 5-6l/100km. I recharge more often - every day or every 2nd day and my fuel use is 2.2l/100km.
So your suggestion is setting the SOC at 25%, and charge at the mall( most likely every 1-2 days supercharge, hoping to get some 20 mins free) or charge at home with extended cord, ❤ thanks for timely reply mate!
So mine only seems to work like that when 'save' is highlighted. Seems when i turn off the car and turn it back on again it goes back to 'auto' and will not charge the battery it will keep it at 20%. In my case my soc is 70% and when in auto the car keeps the battery at 20% in 'auto' if i hit the 'save' button it will charge the car as i drive, but i have to press 'save' every time i start the car. Does anyone else experience this?
@music1981ify yes I've found it will completely ignore the percentage set when in "auto". If you want the car to start up again in "save" mode go to settings>vehicle settings>intelligent memory and turn SAVE Mode Memory on. Note this will only start the car up in save mode if you were also in save mode when you turned the car off.
Found out how to keep the setting. In the settings menu there isna keep 'save' memory
@@music1981ify yes that's right - did you not see my reply to your first message 😉

What's the fuel economy in save mode when your below the save threshold
@@ram00sa00 between 5-6l/100km
@@Jeremy-di4ye I took one for a test drive the battery was at 30% I increased the soc save to 50% to force It to charge the battery. I got around 11 l/100
@ram00sa00 I guess it depends how far below you are and how hard the engine has to work to bring it up to the save percentage. If you use EV to a certain percentage then ask the car to maintain that percentage you'll get 5-6l/100km.
@@Jeremy-di4ye I guess that’s why . Because we got 12 percent more on the battery during our test drive.
@ram00sa00 yeah I can't say I've ever driven mine that way. I'm not sure why you'd want the petrol to add charge to the battery in day-to-day driving, except perhaps on a freeway run where you want to increase the SOC in preparation for some city driving. But again, I just drive on EV until I get down to the SOC I want to keep, then use petrol to maintain it.
