you suppossed to heat the steel not the rod, besides without sanding and cleaning its to difficult even normal welding can fail. dumb video.

I got low temperature welding rods that were very thin. I could not melt it with a torch. Oh well, it was $2. I can use the rod to hang things up when I paint.

I can see the solder (it's not welding) still burning after the flame is removed, so clearly a wax or plastic base. Aluminium powder is just there for looks. Thanks for the warning!

Will it even cool down? With the mount folded down, the camera in the cage can't cool down anything since the folded mount for the GoPro doesn't align with the bottom part of the cage, and the heat transfer from the camera's chip is negligible, unless some thermal conductive tape, like the Thermal Grizzly Minus Pad 8 - 120 × 20 × 0.5 mm, is attached to the area where the camera chip cooling touches the cage.

You should try aluminum rods from harbor freight or a better quality. I braised several thick pieces of aluminum together and they held. You’re not cleaning anything up really either
