Hi! There are four MSFS 2024 sim updates in the roadmap for this year. MSFS 2020 has been continually updated since launch. I’m glad bugs and requests are being addressed. 🙂
Whats the indicator on the top right corner @4:30 ?
Hi! That's 'Input Viewer' - there's a link in the video description.
@@matthew-lets-fly THX. But seems to be offline
@@unclealig Oops sorry! That link is now fixed. Please try again.
@@matthew-lets-flythanks. Could have searched on flightsim to for myself, but thought its down amd unavail.
It’s going to be an amazing sim when they get the bugs squashed. Would love to see them implement realistic damage to an aircraft and military weapons? Oh yea!
Im on series s and im getting heavy rotor wash ground effect on any landing pad. There something to do with the flight model?
Interesting! To help me better understand this... You've updated to the Sim Update 1 public beta? And when you say you're getting a heavy rotor wash ground effect on any landing pad, are you talking about a visual effect? Or something about the way the helicopter is behaving in flight?
I think I’m going to wait for su2 to even consider upgrading from 2020.
Yeah, me too, maybe even longer. In the meantime it would be nice if the Needles helipad was fixed in 2020🤞🤞
Whereas I haven't touched 2020 since the day 2024 released. 😂 As they have four Sim Updates on the roadmap for this year, I imagine we'll have access to Sim Update 2 sometime around April to May? That'll be a busy time for third-party developers for sure!
The CFD dropout and the resulting yaw effect we all know has been fixed. However, the ground effect is still not right! It is now applied to the nearest structure below the rotor disc as if the structure was a wide open flat plane. There is no asymmetry possible. The “Needles” landing as well as other big helipads work fine because if you approach correctly there is only little room for asymmetric airflow. If you approach the pad on level you will experience a sudden symmetric push upwards when the rotor disc starts to overlap the landing area. This may be a limitation of the sim physics but it leads to wrong behavior with small pads like the spray truck. So I call it still bugged.
Hi! And thanks for posting your detailed analysis. This is really interesting! What would be your expectation for realistic behaviour? I assume, instead of the whole disc lifting symmetrically as you pass forwards over the edge of the elevated pad, you would expect the nose to pitch up?
Nice update and report thanks! Why the score number in millions? Why mirror is disabled? Beta is not an English beeeta word ;)
Maybe I should give it a Greek pronunciation next time? "Veeta" I think?! I don't know why the maximum score in landing challenges is 2,000,000. Unfortunately, they don't currently offer us a breakdown of our scoring. Also, unfortunately, MSFS 2020 and 2024 do not yet offer realistic mirror functionality. That is something that would be super-helpful for cargo missions!
I jumped into SU1 beta, Performance seems improved and it runs smoother
That’s good to hear! I didn’t notice any performance problems. So it seems things are going well in that area.
Ah, now we’re talking! I’ve just managed to execute two perfect landings on oil rigs, so my previous attempts really were the sim and not me😂 I guess it was all good practice. Looking forward to seeing what else has changed in the beta.
Suddenly, for helicopter fans, it feels like the sim is so much bigger! I'll try some oil rig landings today. 😀😀
@ I think the oil rigs are one of my favourite aspects of MSFS 2024, the modelling is amazing. You might want to try OL673, it’s moored on an inland Scottish loch that was once a deep water anchorage for the Royal Navy and is now used to maintain oil rigs. In real life and indeed MSFS, it’s quite the contrast between a sleepy Scottish village and huge rigs!
@@circusman8 Awesome! Thanks so much for that recommendation. I just took the H125 for a quick trip from OL673 and had a look at the other rig further out in the inlet, before coming back to land on OL673 again. I agree - the level of detail on the rigs is amazing. I assume they are procedurally generated? And I noticed the Stena Spey portrayal seemed reasonably accurate when comparing with real-life photos. Amazing!
@@matthew-lets-fly I seem to remember Jorge getting very excited about oil rigs on one of the pre-release discussions! It certainly looks like a lot detail on a small structure. The World Photographer Oil Rig challenge takes you on a nice trip around some of the more amazing ones!
@ it's really great that the simulator supports a variety of interesting experiences like this!
In the r66 spray mission i did, it still asked me to apply thr parking break at the end. Wasn't able to finish the mission.
Same, it is disappointing.
I'm sorry to hear that! I haven't had a chance to test spray missions yet (because I haven't qualified! 😂). Just to be clear... did it ask you to apply "rotor brake", using ctrl+/ ?
@matthew-lets-fly no, it asked me to apply the parking break via control space... In the r66... with skids.
@ yeah, that's disappointing to hear, especially because it's been fixed elsewhere! Maybe they can still get it done for SU1 official release? Also, I wonder if ctrl+/ will allow you to finish the mission, even when it's asking for ctrl+space.
are you flying with the cyclic etc assistance options on?
All assists off. 😀😀
Attempting to land at the Needles was one of the first things I tried while trying to get to grips with heli flying in 2024. They’re local to me and weren’t rendered in 2020. I couldn’t work out why I kept bouncing off the helipad!
What a spectacular spot! What do you think of the 2024 scenery for the area? I hope you'll enjoy many happy landings now that they've addressed that bug. 😀😀
@@matthew-lets-flyAs with most scenery for MSFS 2024, I’m very happy with it but there are some immersion killers like missing sea piers and submerged jetties/boats etc. Whilst it great to finally have the Needles lighthouse, it does tend to hide and then magically pop into view when I’m almost on top of it! Pretty funny really.
The public beta has been open since day one. That's what we've all unofficially been on, they just didn't announce it as such
That's why we need to address our demands in the MSFS 2024 forum. Let's be pragmatic and useful.
@@lioneljacquet7944 We do. And it takes months to fix a silly bug such as the windshield effects defaulting to medium in the settings even after they said they fixed it, and having to hack the config file and do it yourself so you can see rain on the windshield.
@@ArcanePath360 It's the best we can do to pass on as much of our experience as possible to the developers, so we'll just have to be patient. Have a good day.
How the heck does Wollongong look so good for you. You could almost tell what cars a parked in people's driveways.. is that a add on or ms20 ? Haha
I was wondering when someone would ask about it, or recognise it. The scenery is straight out of the box, default MSFS 2024. 🙂
@matthew-lets-fly absolutely amazing.. I'm guessing you run it on high end computer not xbox lol

That is a great update for us helicopter pilots! I'll wait for the official update though rather than trying out a beta version of it, but it is good to see this issue has been addressed. Thanks for sharing!
Hi! For people who use lots of third-party add-ons, there might be some benefit in waiting for the various developers to make their products compatible. Exciting times! 😀
@@matthew-lets-fly Any idea what addons are affected? I have all 3rd party helos in community folder, hpg addons for "Random and everywhere" and scenery packages. I'm probably better off waiting. Any idea for the expected update official release?
@@RotorReality247 For me, in Steam, it's very easy to switch between Beta and the main stream - the only cost is the 900Mb download, and I believe your cache is wiped so everything will need to stream again. I imagine the load on third-party developers is quite high right now - porting existing content so it works in 2024, developing new content for 2024, and also adapting to new things that emerge in the sim updates. If you're unsure about your add-ons working in the sim update beta, then you wouldn't necessarily count on those being rapidly updated right now! I don't know what the timetable is for the official release of Sim Update 1 - but I notice they have four SUs on the roadmap for 2025 so I guess that's one per quarter. They'll also be launching the Marketplace when SU1 goes live, so there's lots going on! But also lots to get right. We shall see! 😀😀
@@matthew-lets-fly Probably play it safe and I'll wait. I'm off the MS store anyways.
So glad to see the Helipad bug being fixed in this update, the experience of flying helicopters in the sim is so much nicer now
I totally agree!! It's almost like having a whole new sim again! Thanks for your comment. 😀
so does this help the agriculture missions? i don't understand how people were able to land on the truck. no matter how i approached as soon as the rotor got close it was 100% ground effect.
@ Someone else commented that the physics are improved around the truck, but there may still be room for improvement. Speaking for myself, I STILL have not qualified for agriculture missions! I guess I've been having too much fun making videos and engaging with other heli-simmers! 😂😂 I'll get there soon!
Finally! 🙏 I can’t believe it took this long to fix. How on earth did they miss this from the start? Now you can enjoy roof hopping and oil rig landings. I can even resume my helicopter career mode and try landing on the tiny agricultural fueling truck. The combination of the ground effect bug and the landing pad being too small made it too hard to play for me. I’ll opt into the beta on my Xbox and give it a try after the weekend. 🙏✌️
Hi! I too am so glad it's finally fixed. Who knows? Maybe they had many other crazy problems that needed fixing before the launch? I haven't tried the agricultural helicopter missions yet - it sounds suitably challenging! 😀 I hope you'll enjoy the new physics!
@ stay away from the career a bit longer. Search and rescue is still broken if they didn’t fixed it in this beta!? The career mode will be fun in time after all bug fixes🙏 Thanks for all great videos 🙏
I jumped into Simupdate 1 but rolled back because AutoFPS did not work anymore….and the loading also took waaaaay longer than before.
Sorry to hear it wasn’t so smooth for you. I assume AutoFPS would be updated later to work with updated sim. I think the sim update builds a new cache or something because all my aircraft and scenery had to stream again. After I used each item, the loading time was normal again.
I think I will give it another try. In the current state of the simulator, I assume it might make sense to be in the beta version in order to get also some fixes that we are waiting for earlier. I was a little bit, disappointed to see the roadmap that showed that especially the VR issues are planned for the sim update 2. Hoping to see the fixes earlier in the Beta version.
Damn. The loading times are the reason I hardly play it right now. I just don't have time to sit and wait 10 minutes to have 30 minutes of play time. Glad I didn't get it on Steam as it would take even longer since that has an update every 10 seconds
@@ArcanePath360 so sorry to hear of what I assume are problems with your connectivity? MSFS 2024 is performing really nicely for me (100mb download speed).
@@matthew-lets-fly on on Fibre 150 and it only made a mild difference to when I was on 30. The game main screen just takes forever to get into after waiting about 25 seconds before it even enters the initial startup

@@matthew-lets-fly Matthew, do you find wierd green shimmering in FS24? Another YT'er said something about DSLL driver updates for it...?
@@stevejones924 Hi! No, I don't think I have experienced weird green shimmering! Have you noticed something like that in my videos? I'm using an AMD GPU so I don't have DLSS.
thx for this video helped a lot, do you have settings for planes too?
I’m so happy to hear this has been helpful for you! I’m currently focusing my content on helicopters but I’m sure many of the same principles about sensitivity also apply to fixed wing aircraft. 🙂
Nice job. Love the dynamics of the Cabri but in the group flights I fly in, she lacks the gusto to keep up. Looking forward to your take on the available payware and/or ported helis.
Thanks so much! I too am really looking forward to the new helicopters coming our way. Miltech has its "unannounced military helicopter" scheduled for Q1. I'll be there! 😀😀
great job
Thank you! 😀😀
Enjoyed the video! One question - how does everyone get the Miltech Chinook into the sim? I bought and flew it in 2020, but it doesn't show up in 2024. Same with the wonderful Taog's Helis. The Huey worked at first, but since the latest fs update, it disappeared. Any idea what's going on?
I’m so glad you enjoyed this, thanks!! For me, I originally purchased the Miltech Chinook for 2020 through Contrail. All I had to do in Contrail now was switch to 2024 products, and it showed me that Miltech’s 2024 version was available for me to download. It kinda “just worked”! Hope that helps?!
@matthew-lets-fly ... thanks for your reply 😎 ... maybe there's the problem - I bought it through steam...
@@normg2242 Yes, unfortunately to qualify for the free update, you might need to wait for MS/Asobo to bring the 2024 Marketplace online? Or you could try contacting Miltech directly?
I don't think it's a bug. I think you're experiencing rotors on the downslope side of that mountain. The wind travels up the mountain from your right, as you pointed out earlier, and as it cross over, it can turn into a strong downdraft. Mountain flying is very tricky!
Thank you so much! Indeed another viewer also pointed out this possibility so I’m very grateful to you both! I’d love to do a video on alpine flying because it has so many interesting challenges! 😀😀
💯💯💥👍👍👍👀
Great flight, scenery and procedure Mathhew. Nicely done! Mountain flying is a whole different ball game, as if helicopter flying wasn't difficult enough. Plus the 'stress' of VATSIM.🙂 I like your video production and commentary as well, nice use of the Navigraph map to visualize what you will be doing. Looking forward to more of your (VATSIM) videos!
Wow, I very much appreciate your positive feedback! I would like to make a video about helicopter flying in mountains - maybe in the next few weeks? I'm also happy to know that any future VATSIM videos will have at least one enthusiastic viewer! 😂😂
@@matthew-lets-fly Ha ha, I'm sure it will get more viewers than just me! 🙂You don't see too many helicopters on VATSIM, let alone on UA-cam, so it's good to inspire others this way. I'm particularly interested in seeing VFR procedures down in Australia and New Zealand to see how it compares to here in the Netherlands. I hopefully have some of my own VATSIM VFR helicopter flights to share soon.
very sensitive controls for force trim. so usual trim x y axes much more convenient. with right implementation ffb, force trim must works as expected i think. with spring or force sensors stick it's just impossible for make it works as should, however it can be implemented like in dcs, when you release the button, heli react only around trimed radius and you can without any air friction get the stick back in center. that as i remember. i flew heli in dcs more than 10 years ago, if not more than 15:)
Hmm, interesting! I know that the MSFS 2024 "set force trim" is not realistic, and I notice that it's particularly confusing for DCS pilots who have a completely different system. But it's working really nicely for me! Maybe I'll also make a video especially for MSFS pilots who use centering sticks...
@@matthew-lets-fly yes. idea for not touch any more or make correction small again, with centered joy need to be more accuracy for implement that, like in dcs for example, but in any way it's crazy for centered things.
At 7:40, when you comment on your climb rate, I believe you are getting into a leeward downdraft from the hill, given that you said you had wind coming from your right.
That is such a great observation! Thank you so much for pointing that out. It was remarkably strong! And it's not the first time I've had such a strong downdraft effect. I'm really grateful for you offering such a persuasive explanation for that event! Do you have real-life experience??
@@matthew-lets-fly I used to fly gliders, yes!
@@galvedro Wonderful! I just watched your old XPlane 9 glider video - how fascinating it is to see old content like that! What do you think of gliders in MSFS 2024?
@@matthew-lets-fly I am pleasantly surprised by environment representation (updrafts, thermals, dowdrafts, turbulence, correlation with clouds, etc). Towing was bugged to the point of being unusable when the sim was released, but Asobo seems to have sorted that out already. The flight models I have tried have all issues at takeoff and landing: the DG1001 does not behave properly with brakes extended, making landings are very artificial. The LS8 is better, but ground effect is too weak for what I would expect. I think the experience is good overall, and that the current issues should be fixable.
@@galvedro thank you so much for your glider advice! I finally tried gliders for the first time in MSFS 2024! In the LS8, I flew from Omarama, in New Zealand. I got towed up to about 5000ft, and I enjoyed trying to find the updrafts along the ridges. I think I still have a lot to learn, because I also got caught in some very strong downdrafts and lost a lot of height. I also got into a spin once! 😂😂 I think this is a really great lesson for me: to try to better understand wind conditions in our sim!
I like your Vatsim flight, as I do the same with helicopters. this is really a great enlargement to realism in flightsimming. Ad a helicopter simmer you should fly the London heliroutes. This is fantastic. Having Heathrow tower on the radios…this is so cool.
Thanks for your positive feedback! I agree that the London heli-routes would be an interesting challenge. It's often very busy on VATSIM so I'm sure the stress level could be very high! 😂😂
The weakest part of the helicopters in most sims is the stuttering rotor animations which look horrible and break the immersion factor as far as realism goes. I don’t understand in this day and age of technology that they can’t get the proper smooth rotor animation. I think DCS probably has the best rotor and prop animations but the stuttering animation of other and helicopters and sims are monumental immersion breakers.
cars rendering in front of the dust...this sim needs lots of work.
Yeah, if you look at my "better landings" video you can see some objects rendering from behind a hill! 😂 The cars in front of the dust seems like an easier fix than some of the other stuff. I do hope they can implement less dust when helicopters are at idle.
I feel like I need a very big amount of collective to stay in hover, let alone taking off. Compared to the R66 that is. I guess the 66 is lighter but still I think the A-Star needs to much collective. Whats your opinion on this?
Hi! Thanks for your comment! Hovering is the most energy-intensive part of helicopter flight, so it's normal to use a lot of collective. In my view, in the MSFS 2024 R66, the collective comes on too quickly within the range of any controller, and so it feels too powerful and springs off the ground. The H125 seems more realistic to me. I think the default Cabri is also very good. I hope that helps? 😀
wow! That was awesome! I wish i could calibrate my controllers for that precision!
Ha! Thank you for that nice compliment!! I'm very self-critical so I'm always trying to do better. My controllers are now very old so I'm hoping I can start upgrading them this year. (I'll need a new chair first!). For you... have you tried lowering your sensitivity? I have -0.80 on the cyclic and pedal axes.
Great! Thanks for that! I’ll give it a whirl! No pun intended! Lol
@@matthew-lets-fly where do you set that sensitivity? Somehow I struggle to keep the heli smooth and in hover it just bounces up and down...

In 2020 my favs were the Huey and the Chinook. In 2024 Ive really got attached to the H125. Love the way it Flys. Also the Bell 407.
I also feel an attachment to the H125 - it's among my most favourite modern helicopters! I occasionally try the Bell 407 in MSFS 2024, but it's flight model is so different from all the other machines. It's hard to get familiar with it!
I’ve found I enjoy flying Helis in 2024 over 2020. I don’t exactly know why, but thats okay for now. 😊
It's great to hear that you're enjoying the helicopters in the new sim! 😄I completely agree. The next few months will be incredibly exciting as more new, high-quality payware aircraft enter the market for MSFS 2024.
For serious helicopter pilots a moza AB9 base is a absolute must as it turns into a cyclic!
A glowing review! 😀 It's not quite in range for me yet, but I'd love to try it. how are you finding the Moza AB9 for helicopters in MSFS 2024?
The fact that no one on UA-cam realizes that the Carenado R-66 has a VERY glaring flaw: It's main rotors are animated backwards. So that shows me that the people making these videos are not going from cold and dark when reviewing these machines. All the Carenado aircraft in the sim are broken in some way shape of form. The Cowansim R-66 is 1000x better than the included one and it works right out of the box with no updates for MSFS24.
I find the backwards rotor kinda entertaining. I imagine it will be an easy fix for the Carenado people, so I will look forward to having that updated in the sim. The Carenado R66 is simplified, as I suggested in the video, because you need to have fuel in the turbine before the starter will work - that's obviously not correct because that would cause a 'hot start' and severe damage at the very least! 😀 Whether or not that will be updated for a base-level aircraft remains to be seen...
Or maybe, a lot of people don't care, just as long as they spin.
@@jamieh8240 to some extent, I feel this way. We can all acknowledge the fact that the animation is going the wrong way, but it doesn't affect my enjoyment of the R66. With that said, I do agree that it should be fixed. It would seem to be a simple fix so let's hope it happens soon. 😀😀
@@matthew-lets-fly It definitely needs to be fixed, but a lot of people seem to be boycotting the R66 or the game itself because of minor things like this. All they are doing is missing out on how much fun flying it is.
@jamieh8240 Yes, I can understand people's frustrations. But, overall, I agree with your sentiment. Personally, I haven't loaded 2020 since the day 2024 released. I look back at old videos, and the ground level detail in 2020 seems so backward to me now - I can't go back! 😂😂 I feel it's an exciting time, and it's going to be great over the next few months as 2024-specific developments hit the market.
I fly the H125 very frequently...it's ok but my major problems are that there is: no autopilot, no altitude hold, etc.
It's good to hear that you're enjoying the H125! I just did a VATSIM flight in Canada and it worked beautifully. My understanding is that most real-world H125s are not fitted with autopilot. The only autopilot implementations I've seen in Microsoft flight sims are for the HPG helicopters (very sophisticated, but takes some getting used to) and the Miltech Chinook (kinda basic, but works if you avoid further input from your controls). With the H125, you can use trim to help you achieve stable flight.
@matthew-lets-fly Good day sir. Thanks for your comments! I have two comments. First, Asobo indicated in one of their live streams that the Airbus H125 doesn't have trim....they made this comment bc so many people complained that the H125 was lacking trim. Second, while the H125 is ok, I personally find the helicopter always has a VERY STRONG pull to right which must be counter acted with left law pedal. I know H125 mechanics and H125 pilots and they've never complained about so frequently having EXCESSIVELY STRONG pulling to the right. I've actually flow in the H125 and I've never seen/felt in real life what I see/feel in MSFS 2024. Does anyone have any thoughts/comments. Interested to get others thoughts.
@ the trim situation with the H125 in MSFS2024 is indeed very confusing! I suspect the people in the livestream at that moment were confused between "no trim", "quick trim", and "MSFS-2024-force-trim-which-is-probably-just-quick-trim". 😂😂😂😂 I can now trim it just like any other helicopter but I need to have quick trim on the same button I would normally have for "set force trim" - so it is not consistent. The pulling to the right... does that happen at pick-up only? Or any time? If you look at my newest video, about flying on VATSIM, you'll see the machine pivots during pickup. I suspect this is a quirk of the model around interacting with the ground. I would be interested to know what you think.
Are your tailnumbers actually show correctly? No matter what I type in its some gibberish on the helicopter like D-4SUR or stuff like that but never an actual genuine tail number 😢
Hi! I usually let the simulator choose a registration/tailnumber for me. When I fly in Australia, it correctly chooses one that starts with VH- and when I fly in New Zealand, it correctly chooses one that starts with ZK-. So I guess it's working okay for me? (I can confirm that when I try to manually change the number in Configure > Identification, it ignores my selection and assigns its own - another bug I guess?)
@matthew-lets-fly and they all start with "D" in my case since I'm from Germany, all the rest is crap. So the only thing it gets right is the beginning of the tail number.
@ so I'm guessing Germany does not use numbers in its real-world tailnumbers? We have some numbers in Australia.
To me the best is the chinook only one that the collective is tuned right besides the g2 which is great but you master it very fast the r66 is trash impossible to do a good liftoff and the bell has no trim so it’s unflyable really glad I coughed up for the premium deluxe the base ones need a lot of love
I agree there is a lot of work still to do on the base helicopters, but I'm still enjoying them for now. I guess with the R66 we could make a unique control scheme for it, with the 'neutral' setting in the collective adjusted for the weird mapping.
The 66 and the A-Star are the one's I fly the most. But I'm annoyed that the 66's main rotor is turning in the wrong direction 😂
It makes me laugh every time - especially because I didn't even notice it at first! 😂😂 I guess this is one of the simpler bugs to fix. I hope Carenado is still working on it.
When does the game become playable on Xbox? MSFS 2024 is a joke. Even on game pass at $0 it ls overpriced. Should be paying me to deal with this atrocious game.
I don't like Cabri G2 at all, it might be great for hover training, but it's too unstable for flying. H125 is my favorite.
For me, the Cabri is one of the smoothest in cruise, and one of the easiest keep coordinated in turns - the yaw string works nicely! I love the H125 too, and it will be in another video very soon, I hope!
The h225 is totally unusable on Xbox version sadly.
Sorry to hear that! What sort of experience are you having on Xbox with the H225?
@matthew-lets-fly once you start a flight with it the game crashes back to dashboard, often before you even get off the ground. As default there's bindings missing ( most notably for throttle and collective, so you can't even get off the ground) with no official information on what exactly needs binding. After much tinkering and trial and error I solved throttle and collective issue, but with the crash to dashboard it's pointless.
I have the same issue sucks because it’s part of the 100$ dlc and useless same as the c-17
@lilkris3008 yeah, it's a known issue, but there is no sign of them addressing it sadly. Is the c-17 unusable too? I haven't even tried that yet.
@@STANNY8 it will fly but the efb is broken so no ramp or cargo and it runs at 12fps basically useless
I Love Microsoft Flight Simulator 🎉😊😊
MSFS 2020 got me back into flight simulation after a long absence. And MSFS 2024 got me into making flight simulator videos for UA-cam! 😂😂
