    • @bonsaitree-diy
      @bonsaitree-diy Рік тому

      Hi Stefaan! Wood mold definitely works, with some added "work", the removal of the mold can be a bit more difficult. Also the finish of the concrete will emulate that of the wood. I tried this with MDF and got quite good results, but making the mold took a long time - and I quite like trying different "designs" so styrofoam has been easy to play around with =)!

    • @bonsaitree-diy
      @bonsaitree-diy 2 роки тому

      Hi! Styrofoam can indeed get VERY messy when cutting. In one of the newer videos ua-cam.com/video/a5bFyjfzTjo/v-deo.html I included the cutting part - everything became much easier when i started using a Styrofoam cutter. Clean cuts, no mess! I have not tried plexiglass, however i suspect it would be quite costly and perhaps difficult to cut? Have you tried it? I tried making MDF molds but these took time to make, were hard to make details with - and not so functional for re-use.

    Fantastic as usual. Do you have any suggestions of what can be added to colour the concrete? I’ve used art or car spray paints after pots have dried but it might be a smarter and more permanent finish if it’s mixed IN the concrete? Thanks.

    • @animron9365
      @animron9365 3 роки тому

      You can buy different colors or pigments (dry or wet) which you can mix directly into your concrete mixture. White cement is preferred if you do so, because if you add red pigment in your concrete mixture, for example, and if you use grey cement, than final color might not be as red as you want. That's why i prefer white cement, unless you want more darkish or black colors, than grey cement is the best option.

    • @bonsaitree-diy
      @bonsaitree-diy 3 роки тому

      Hi! My apologies for such a late reply! @Animron is absolutely correct. There are 'ready-to-mix' color pigments specifically for concrete - they work great! I have been experimenting with different colors and they really look great (got a terracotta video up now, and a brown one coming up soon!). Pigments are to be preferred because 1. Quite easy to mix 2. Good results (can vary depth of color with amount mixed) 3. It permeates the entire mixture! Negative side: kinda expensive :')

    As I guess it should be better if you use a metal net for pots and for molding u can use thin wood cuts. After disassemble it's reusable.

    • @bonsaitree-diy
      @bonsaitree-diy 3 роки тому

      I've seen a few videos with metal net casting - I daresay the craftsmanship for this seems more challenging. Also tried wood cuts for reuse, but these are quite "basic": In the last 1-2 videos I've tried making more detailed and interesting forms and shapes with styrofoam (which would be hard with a reusable mold). I hope to try metal net / freehand casting and shaping soon, a bit intimidated by it tho :')!
