I know that guy!
My bad thought this was about tayam
Max has Tayam proxied, it's only a matter of time!
@@Naren25 I should do a Tayam deck teck?
@WinandInCEDH 100% You've got the contacts. Maybe wait a month or two, don't want two Abzan deck techs in a row!
@@Naren25 how was the format of the deck tech? Thinking about doing a bunch more of these.
@WinandInCEDH Pretty much perfect! I think it's especially important to talk about matchups and mulligans, so I feel you got that right.
The third hottest British CEDH player! ❤
UK represent! Jay is a lovely guy and skilled player. Nice to see his deck get some love.

hell of an episode, hell of a blonde
Yooooo the UK GOAT (as in the Animal what else did you expect) on Win and In ?

I’d like to explore a way to combine the Europe and NA rules, perhaps by setting a limit of two restarts. The issue of kingmaking is honestly quite challenging to address effectively.
Ban pact of negation and it removes 90% of the toxic politicking
maybe this is loaded, maybe it's obvious and I'm missing something but why are Max P & Max S not podcasting together anymore? Was such a great pair </3
Hey Max I played kess with you round 1, was great to meet ya keep up the good work. If you are ever in Ireland hit me up we can get some games... hopefully I won't get my brain freeze storm trigger trickbinded again 😆
Why not make life totals matter? If a match goes to time, highest life total wins
That would kill two birds with one stone; less draws, and I won't have to listen to as many mono black players tell me that life is a resource
I remember some months ago the adding of the politicking targets rule, but now I can't find any mention of it anywhere. Is there somewhere it is explicitly stated?
Could you possibly provide subtitles? This guest was extremely hard to understand, and I couldn't finish the episode
Great podcast! I was also playing the tournaments but didn't have the chance to play against any of you since my first four rounds were 4 draws. The restart thing is not the usual system in Europe, at least in Spain we only allow them in the top cut, but not in the swiss. Definitely the extra time issue was really tough, but great experience anyways and already waiting for next year.
Hey. I was really looking forward to hearing this episode. It was nice to meet you at the tournament, and also I was so happy to play with Alfonso in the quarterfinals (even though I performed poorly). I heard great things about him and I can confirm, it was easily the most enjoyable game of the tournament for me. Hope to see you both in Germany if not sooner :) -even
It was great to meet you both, and play! For time, I think the real problem was the very lax overtime-rules. 20 minutes "soft" overtime cap just means the round is "really" 95 minutes, and then play out the final turn, that late in the game, it very rarely gets to a point where all 4 players pass their final turn in under 20 minutes anyway. And in a 277 player event, every round will have someone spending all of those 20 minutes + then finishing the final turn. There is just no world where the final turn of at least one table starts at the 95 minute mark (+ judge exertions). For draws, I don't think they add any time to the swiss rounds. Maybe they are even good there because there is kind of no downside. Players already have some incentive to force draws in swiss. And if a draw means a restart, that theoretically just causes fewer actual draws in the standings. In single elim however, there are some issues with draws. Two main ones I see: 1: players where not great at evaluating when to restart. I saw a lot of restarts that where just from kind of stalled boards, where at least one, maybe even two players should have refused the restart because they where in a > 25% position. This was good for me, because I got to restart a few games I was fully out of, but I definitly think players should mostly stick to using restarts when its "forced" with a win on the stack etc. 2: The potential future problem with restarts we saw in my semi finals. And that is when 3 players just decide to force the fourth to take the draw. This happened in my semi finals. Where 3 of us made a deal to just pass a wishclaw around between us and get stuff to fuck the fourth who was refusing the draw he didn't come around. This ofc because he was in a clear leading position (maybe, see point 1), but its kind of the same as forcing a player to ID or get targeted in swiss, not a great play pattern, but fully legal. If that game didn't allow restarts. I think it would have forced me into a much more risky line, or maybe a deal with one other player to try and survive a rotation. And I think that's a better outcome for competitive integrity.
@@EspenOset great to meet you as well. I agree with all of your points here.
From a TO point of view on how the rounds are structured in Europe are a planning nightmare. The longest overtime we have had in our local was roughly 45 min, and I thought that was bad, but we have also had a 3-hour untimed game before.
If one player dies early but the overall game ends in a draw. Does the player that died get a draw or a loss?
@@maxalexa2 a draw
I don't understand the Chord of Calling example used. How can you be held to get the card you said you would get before the spell resolved. Isn't that just an aspect of lying. You either counter the Chord or you pass prio and what ever happens happens.
the restarts are definitely one of the reasons for rounds to go long because it makes that more rounds have the chance to go to extra turns, therefore being one of the tables that drag the round forever
a pleasure having you here ! <3
The restarts and the extra turns is not normal in Europe… this was a strange event. Nobody from Europe was happy…
I saw you there!!❤
The sound quality here is absolutely unacceptable. You’re calling it a podcast, but the post-production on the audio is very poor and needs improvement :(
lol I was able to understand everything they said
Progenitus guy here: its been an honor playing with you! Also im extremely happy i dodged that two hour session so early. When i learned about the restart we were already on the other side of town on a boat :D
I just think the restarts makes for a poor viewer and player experience. Games go super long which exhausts the players.
Just curious. Is it possible to have a system where draws doesn’t earn you points. So like wins gets 3 and draws and losses gets 0. Would this discourage draws? Since it’s either win and in or bust?
@lordndrew you still need tie breakers to figure out top cut. Without draw points you're incentivized to kingmake to drive up your opponent win%. So you end up with a kingmaking problem in place of the draw problem.
It was great meeting you, shame I was asleep the whole time you were at our airbnb for games. 😂
That picture will stay with me forever ❤
That tournament seemed pretty intense from watching. Wish I could’ve experienced this one
Being fairly new to the Cedh scene this past year has been filled with milestones. I’ve had the honor of playing and against Afonso during one of the invitationals that he ended up winning and he’s such a knowledgeable and kind person, it was great to hear is thoughts and opinions on the metagame. It was also a great privilege to have played against you Max on your very last game in Lisbon on Tuesday at Mercadia. I apologise for taking a 20 m turn at 1 am while presenting the win on Sisay 😂! All around this was great podcast and best wishes to you !
Haha that game was nuts! I didn't think you were going to get there...
Couple of lucky Dihada flickers hahaha
Loved hanging out with you those 2 days Max ❤
Bro, the pleasure was all mine, had an absolute blast! Those last games in Mercadia were the perfect way to end the trip. Hope to jam with you in Germany next year my friend.

Big Afonso! 🙏 Been playing with that dude for years ❤

I’m coming to this party late but I want to weigh in on Shorikai. I tried it pre bans. It gold fished like it would be unstoppable. And it can get to unstoppable status. I lost 100% of prob 7 games I tested it pre ban. I’ve played it 6 games post ban and have 2 wins. Obv that’s a tiny sample, but it feels a whole lot better now. Players used to just win the game while I was setting up my invincible engines. Now they only win the game before I can set up invincible engines 🤔 MOST of the time.. I think it is good enough to compete now. I still have much more luck w Malcolm decks (don’t ask which one, I love em all 😉) Shorikai will take over. It’s able to out grind thrassios decks.. by seriously a lot.
totally agree with the master of keys take
I’ve been seeing some sweet tevesh/thrasios decks lately. Love how green has gotten a boost post ban.
Comedian and Wounded are the top Kinnan pilots atm. but Shitz, im pining for your Mardu deck MaxP!!
I can't understand this dude
RogSi and kinnan are doing numbers.
Consensus seems like they got it right with the bans ..... roll put may have been bad but they did edh and cedh correctly. I personally wish to thank them. I love that skill is rewarded.... way it should be imho
My prediction is a unexpected deck takes the win, the reason a lot of decks are better is because people respect them less due to the bans. For Example Korvold does not get the same respect so it can takeover, same with Godo etc.
