I was gonna build one just like this but then found the exact same frame from PROAIM 4 x 4 scrim tube frame for 150$ Canadian on ebay and then bought 2 diffusion 4 x 4 for 50$ Canadian each, again on ebay (one 1/2 stop and the other is 1 stop) so total was 250$ and I didn't have to build anything and it was shipped to my door.

I'm more interested in how the noise looks at higher ISO's. To me thats where monochrome sensors shine is the noise. Shooting at high ISOs at least on monochrome stills camera can look really amazing with the noise(almost film like) not to mention stop improvement in light sensitivity. So of my favorite photos are at around 25,000 ISO.

Thanks. Yea, I wanted to do a more in-depth look at the benefits of using a dedicated, monochrome camera. The low-light capabilities are amazing. Since the camera's bayer filter for the color channels is removed, those photo sites on the sensor are now repurposed for luminance, making the camera better equipped for low-light. ISO Tests would have been helpful to see how the digital noise would play on camera. Another thing I wanted to cover is how you can make the Blackmagic Pocket 6K better suited for Black and White work. In Davinci Resolve, all I did was desaturate the image. If I were to click "Monochrome" or individually adjust the color channels, after desaturating, I probably could have better matched the image. The Red Monochrome is an amazing, very specialized camera. I believe I rented it from Lens Pro and the rates were pretty good. There were at least two light fixture manufacturers that made a similar LPS fixture to this DIY one made by Lustra and Verdaray. These were sold as security lighting fixtures for inside retail establishments. I found one at a local swapmeet in my town recently for $15, complete with power cord and plug. It utilizes a 55-watt LPS lamp and true Advance LPS ballast and bayonet Lampholder (socket). It uses much thicker diffuser than that in a fluorescent fixture.

Nice, but if you are picky like me, the problem with the socket adapter (B22 to E27) is that, unlike a proper bayonet socket, it does not ensure the U-shaped discharge tube inside the LPS lamp is positioned correctly. It just ends up wherever it ends up.

Sure thing. Check out Fulham Workhouse 3 ballast. I think it is rated for ~64wats and it should be plenty for your use. Ballast Name: Fulham Workhorse 3 WH3-120-C You could also use: Fulham Lighting WH2-120-L Workhorse 2 Electronic Ballast (These are both electronic ballasts and they are more efficient than the magnetic ballast you might be using).

Amazing Video. I see that on the link to the items; the bulb is rated for 90W & the B22 - E27 socket adaptor is rated for 60W. The description on the Amazon page for the socket adaptor states: "Based on the heat resistance of your lamp holder, the bulb wattage cannot exceed 60W." & "Note: To avoid the risk of fire, make sure that your bulb does not exceed our recommended wattage." I trust what was displayed on this video besides the vertical mounting, but I also want to ensure I am not going to be deteriorating the efficiency or possibly ending the life of my endangered low pressure sodium lamp given these two differing wattages. Is there something that we are missing regarding the compatibility between the two wattage levels? Or is this a very overprotective measure that was used much like the majority of the P65 Cancer Warnings for California residents found on packaging? Thanks.

Many people in the US seem confused about the difference between HIGH PRESSURE and LOW PRESSURE sodium vapor lamps. High pressure lamps were fairly ubiquitous (and still are) whereas the low pressure fixtures were generally only used near big astronomical observatories (Palomar {Escondido} and Tucson). High pressure lamps produce polychromatic light that is slightly orange. Low pressure bulbs produce (nearly) monochromatic light that obscures all 'color' but that is easy for astronomers to filter out of telescope images. Of course now Elon Mush tosses thousands of pieces of space crap into low Earth orbit ruining astronomical observations everywhere.
