US vs China vs Russia: Which Subway System is the Best? / 美国 vs 中国 vs 俄罗斯:哪个地铁系统最好?
In this video, I’m diving into the world of subway systems. It all started when I was watching videos about the NYC subway and got a desire to show how it stacks up against other subway systems around the world. So, I decided to check out the subway in China and compare it to Moscow’s metro system, which I’ve experienced before.
From high-tech trains in China to the grand, historic stations in Moscow, each subway has its own vibe. In this video, I share my personal experience exploring these systems.
What you’ll see in this video:
The differences between the NYC subway, Kunming subway, and Moscow metro.
How technology and design shape the subway experience in each city.
A behind-the-scenes look at what it’s really like to ride a Chinese subway.
Chapters:
0:00 - Intro
0:53 - Reacting to NYC subway
4:21 - Going to the Chinese subway
11:58 - about Russian subway
13:10 - Amount of subway systems in different countries
14:29 - Conclusion
Which one do you think is the best? Let me know your thoughts in the comments!

This is the real side of China that you don’t usually see in travel vlogs. Why living in a Chinese neighborhood is different from what you might think If you’re interested in se...
American subway systems are better because they double as hotel if you run out of money.
Russian metros lacks platform screen doors for safety which is the standard in Asia; but Russian station designs aesthetically best in the world beats Chinese metros' standard designs; Chinese metros are built faster and more extensively; Chinese metro stations implement storefronts better (tho Japan is the best on this front). We can all learn from each other
Yeah, I hope they all can learn from each other. I remember watching a documentary that when the Russian subway was built they had to come up with the technology from the scratch, even though the technology already existed, but countries were far from sharing it to each other. I'll try to shoot more videos next time I go to Moscow. And would love to visit Japanese subway once
@@accentedlife When the Moscow Metro opened in 1935 it was the 19th metro system and 10th country to have opened a metro in the world which was really impressive; when China built its first metro 1969 in Beijing we had technical assistance from the Soviets to help advise the designs, which we are thankful. And later on China's metro system learned a lot technically from Japan, Germany, the British standards in Hong Kong, Singapore, France, etc... to be able to have the domestic engineering knowledge to build world class systems
Subway stations in China are really boring cause they all look the same and nothing exciting happens such as 🐀 🐁 🐭 running around 😂
True😄 lack of action
I live in China so I don't know why you are surprised
Exactly! You should see public toilets in other countries
你声音好低沉啊
那时候我有一点生病了 :D
Hi Max, thanks for sharing your life in China. I am from Germany and I have been living and working all over China 🇨🇳 for 30+ years. I have seen China when it was just about to grow to this wonderful country and I can 100 percent agree with you that China today is an amazing country to live. I love the Chinese people and I appreciate their long friendship. This Christmas 🎄 me and my family will go to spend the days skiing and 😔 in Harbin, China ☺️❤️🇨🇳❤️ I hope to see more of your life in China. Wonderful!
Wow, you could really see how this country developed and changed over the years! I wish you to have amazing time in Harbin! I hope to go there one day as well. And thank you for a nice comment!
I like this place. I want to live here too.
Come to visit!
Ahh, useful info. Thanks!
Glad you found it useful👍
An excellent take on how to learn Chinese given the breadth of available tools All i can add is the obvious … stay in china until the current bad weather in russia ends ahem ahem Hope there are lots of opportunities for you to prosper Cheers from land downunder
Thank you, you're very kind! And yeah, we're all looking forward to good weather
A lot of well planned residential communities, plus green spaces.
LingQ is simply amazing! Can't recommend it enough! DuChinese and Chairman Bao are excellent for reading. And of course, Pleco dictionary app is a must. For a holistic approach, SuperChinese app is killer. Oh also Dot Languages has a beautiful interface with the best vocab learning experience. To get the full joy out of it, though, you may need a premium subscription which is like 130$ a year. With these, you don't even need a teacher unless you are looking to learn to write at an advanced level.
Great video. I miss China.
Glad you enjoyed it!
New subs here.keep on within few months youll have thou subs .congrats. Greetings from Philippined. Goodluck
Thanks for subbing! I hope so! :D Btw was in Philippines last year - amazing country with breathtaking views and lovely people! Hope to visit again soon
the same apartment in Canada may cost over $2000~2500 USD per month. And also, need to pay hefty fee for heating!
Oh god...
insanely cheap for rental! apartment brand new, and super good environment!
Thanks for the comment! Come to visit!😄
another good point is that Kunming near southeast asia, easy to accessible those countries! Even in winter, you can still go to enjoy sunshine easily.
It's true👍 its possible to go to Vietnam by train, because the border is really close
But a big part of the rural village is still underdeveloped. China have always said it's still a developing country but the West refuse to agree.
Well, there are underdeveloped rural areas in every country :)
❤😂🎉❤😂🎉
It is so called a modern toulu community structure.
Good to know! Thank you!
The place you introduced is really very nice and affordable👍
It really is!
There is no single type of housing arrangements which will fit and please everyone. For eg, this 'mixed-used complex' is very suitable for singles or those families with busy lifestyles as outside of their work, all of their essential needs (groceries, exercise, social, children's enrichment classes, entertainment) can be met in one space. This saves a lot of travel time (and leaves the residents with more spare time to pursue their personal hobbies or get more quality rest or time with family) and from an environmental perspective, saves a lot of fuel and resources than if the residents had to travel further to meet those same needs. Of course, it is very easy to also get bored with the same restaurants or drinks stalls (though they are not really essential needs like groceries) so, those people who always like to explore new things are definitely not suitable for such compact housing. However, I think that with good city planning, the essential functions of residential, business, recreational, educational should be as compact (but not necessarily under one single development like this video) as possible. Why? Because this will free up the maximum amount of possible space for nature and parks.
It's a great point about nature and parks! And yeah, there are definetely pros and cons to it, I love how you described it!
Hey, this place is huge and interesting. Great sharing.
It really is! Thanks for the comment!
哈哈哈,普通的中国社区❤我在广州
广州是一座特别的城市!是一座来自未来的城市!
Great sharing. More foreigners should visit China.
looks amazing, which city is it located in china though?
Kunming :) The City of Eternal Spring
This is brilliant. Any advise for someone looking to retire there that has school age children? Definitely looking to leave the west.
I don’t think you could unless you’re Chinese or your spouse is Chinese. Foreigners in China are here either on spouse visas or work visas. Thailand is an excellent option though.

If a kid manages to enter Chinese university, that would be amazing. I honestly regret not studying in China. And as far as I know it's possible to go stay with the kid on family visa
You can always trust the Chinese to things to the next level no matter what it is...
True
What city is this? Nice video btw, keep it up1
Thanks! It's in Kunming, Yunnan province, China
I love how you show us the real China of the buildings and inside. It makes us feel like we are there. Great 👍
I'm happy to hear it! I'll do more tours like that!
Don't worry, bro. I'm sure that when you speak broken Chinese, they like it and find it endearing.
True, I actually never met a person who would directly criticise my Chinese, even though it's far from perfect. Even in these videos my English limps on both legs, but still nobody mentions that :D people are so nice
@@accentedlife - It helps to be goodlooking. LOL. And your English is very good, actually.
Thanks! I appreciate that!
Wow...quiet and clear , i think china is densely populated.
It's true, but you can always find quiet and peaceful places
Hi Max, good tips! Where are you watching the horror game streamers, UA-cam?
Thank you! I watch them on bilibili (Chinese youtube), there's a lot of good stuff, but it takes time to get used to the Chinese app design
Your living area is very green and tranquil, safe and garden-like! Surprised to find few people or shoppers in the market!
It's because the video was shot in the first half of the day, everyone was at work :)
Nice community... Active life is good for old people to keep them healthy...if not, body and mind gets lazy and sick easily. Esp since u said 10-15 years ago was village life. Be careful jay-walking across the street. *lol*
Thank you, I will! :D they actually have colleges for elderly people. It's a nice topic for another video👍
It’s cool, there aren’t many places around the world like that. Which city is this?
Hey there, thanks for the comment! It's in Kunming, Yunnan province, China
@ Thanks. I just found out after watching your first video 😅
Beautiful building.
It really is!
Hey everyone! I'm experimenting with different formats and features in my videos to make them more engaging and interesting for you. I'd love to hear your feedback-what did you like about this video? Anything you'd like to see more (or less) of? Let me know in the comments, your input really helps me improve!
beautiful and interesting place
@TRAVELADVENTURES-xm2vo I see you visit a lot of cool places on your channel👍 would love to go to one of them as well!
your voice....turns me on.....
Wouldn’t mind to live a neighborhood like yours, thank you!!!
So nice of you!
very nice introduction of the typical neighborhood. thanks
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you for sharing the vision as a normal resident.
It's my pleasure!
Very interesting video. Can you do a video introducing yourself: how you ended up in China, what you are doing in China, etc.
Sure, I'll do it soon👌
Nice video, I've been thinking to move to Kunming as my daughters mother is from Yunnan, now we stay in Yangzhou which is also very nice but a bit colder than Kunming. After staying in China in some different places the communities in the cities are very similar, nice gardens and convenience stores around
I've lived in many different cities in China and I honestly think that Kunming is the best place to live. Absolutely love it here
How does the social credit system work ?? 😂😂
It makes whoever that believes it actually exists dumb because it’s a product of anti-China propaganda. It doesn’t exist in real life.
Typical brain washed people thinking! Could you tell us what social credit is? Or where I can experience it once ?
a typical victim of western anti China propaganda
I'll try to record some locals opinions about it
unfortunately we don't have the so called social credit system in China, it is something we can only heard about from western media
well done!
Thanks!
恭喜你,已经熟悉中国的日常生活。哈哈
是的,慢慢的熟悉了😄
Son of John Cena?
Yes😌
A big difference i've noticed and im thinking could be related to this specific community is it seems like a retirement home, ALOT of elderly.
The video is shot in the middle of the day, so all kids are at school, adults are at work and for elderly people it's a bit cold to stay at home, because there's no central heating in buildings, so they go out to warm themselves. That's why the yard looks like a retirement home :)
@@accentedlife I was also thinking it's due to the time of the day. Many residential "communities" in Hong Kong look like that too around mid-day. The difference is most residential complexes/communities there are government subsidized and not gated (but the buildings are). The gated ones tend to be those built by private developers and sold without government subsidies (more expensive).
@@samlee6938 in Russia it's kinda the same as you described Hong Kong👍
