In Sonoma County, it’s all about the land. Sonoma Land Trust believes that the land is the heart of the community, and that when our land is healthy, our community is healthy.
Our county is one of the most beautiful and biologically diverse counties in the United States. We believe it is a treasure that should be enjoyed by our community and protected for future generations. From acquiring land and conservation easements to restoring land and the natural properties on which we depend, to protecting land for wildlife and recreation, we work tirelessly to find ways to preserve the beauty and vitality of Sonoma County. Additionally, we engage the community in the importance and value of this work through outdoor activities and outreach.
We maintain a diverse and expansive network of partnerships to accomplish a wide range of projects. Thanks to the generosity of those who trust in our work, we have been carrying out this mission for more than 47 years.

Chinook salmon, also known as “king” salmon, have made a triumphant return to Stuart Creek in Sonoma Valley. However, making their way upstream required traveling through a once impassible segment of a blocked waterway, which Sonoma Land Trust acquired, opened, and carefully restored in 2014. The Land Trust has been waiting for the salmon’s return for a decade, and this winter marks a historic ...

Lakeville Creek Restoration | Winter 2024 Update

We reached a major milestone in the Lakeville Creek Stage Zero restoration project, marking the 1-year anniversary in August. While we are still early in the process, we are seeing evidence to indicate that some things are working as planned, but building resilience takes time. It takes time to develop, for plants to get rooted, and for water to flow, spread, and sink effectively. February's at...

Wow
Thank you for the gift of this beautiful video!
Beautiful project!! Please do more update videos and give more info on the project! Also what are the future plans you have for the property? Please expand more on future videos I cant wait!
These stories are so uplifting…if we give them a chance they return home…to everyone who had a hand in making this happen-thank you and well done!
I'm thankful for all the work you've done, but I think there's a bit of confirmation bias going on in the stream restoration community this year. Salmon runs have been absurdly large up and down the west coast this year, and it almost certainly has to do with environmental factors and further aided by the state-wide fishing closures for 2023 and 2024, rather than stream restoration projects. River/streams with no restoration projects have seen fish where they haven't been in dozens of years.
Brought tears to my eyes and joy to my heart! Thank you SLT! Thank you Doug Hanford for the engineering feat! Thank you Chinook for finding your way home again. We've missed you.
Hahahaa
Yay. Prop 4! I'm for sure voting yes on 4

The bacteria in our guts also communicate with the surrounding web. Not symbolic commo, common experience. It's a modem possessed by all guts. Some mistakenly think it's some magical 'soul'.
Absolutely loved my time in this program ❤ this video turned out amazing :)
This is just what we need ❤
Awesome! thanks :)
I have some information that might be helpful for your UA-cam channel. Would you like me to share it with you?
Is a walk available for this preserve?
Excellent, informative and short...thank you
Thank you, Linda and Thea and to everyone who has worked so hard to create this major project from vision to fruition. The video helps show what a wonderful, multi-faceted gift to the community this is - now and into the future.
Listened to this live, so good!
Fantastic 🙌

Wonderful idea, however, Santa Rosa still needs infrastructure that supports safe cycling and pedestrians at busy intersections, like Farmers Lane/Hoen and Mission/Sonoma Hwy

thank you, Breck, for sharing your extensive knowledge, and thank you, Sonoma Land Trust, for bringing this webinar to the general public free of charge. As a 50 year Sonoma County resident, I continue to appreciate the beauty and wonder of this land and find that gaining more knowledge like this just deepens my appreciation.
Is there an English version?

It's a pity that you scientists have found this as it just means you will all exploit and destroy them.
Yes! Thank you!
In regard to the question about succulents, there are several butterfly species that use them as host plants, and I'd be very surprised if there weren't even more moths. Some examples: Moss' elfin (Incisalia mossii), Rocky Mountain Parnassian (Parnassius smintheus), and Sierra Nevada Parnassian (Parnassius behrii) all use stonecrop (Sedum spp.) as larval host plants.
Awww so cute i wanna pet them

I was just listening while I worked in my storage unit. I was able to separate my naturalist volunteer binders, notes, special books, texts, and a few other items you guys would adore, and made them all accessible again for the first time in over fifteen years. Between San Diego (where I reside) and Ventura (where my American grandma lived, and where I liked to visit the native botanic garden), and some of the known species identified by You in Sonoma that are the same genus as both, I am getting a little better idea of the variances of the species latitudinally along the state. Your presentation also identified aspects of the oak ecology I have not known
I imagine poison oak and ivy will be proliferating this year after all the rains this year
I couldn't figure out how to watch live but thank you for posting it here! I'll share with my friends - lots of Kate Marianchild fans living in our own oak woodland south of Ukiah
Giving back to nature. Yay
I would love to see slides of the hypha entering the plant roots.

Really helpful! Thank you all!
Fantastic presentation. Thank you very much. I learned so much about these ephemeral places in our midst. So happy to hear of efforts to conserve them. I am a teacher, retired, from Bellevue School District. When we built Meadow View School we were required to set aside a plot of land for mitigation. Last I looked it was fenced in. I've often wondered if it was viable for Tiger Salamander & other VP specialists. Question - Are there specific birds that visit VPs here, feed on the fairy shrimp ?
