Regarding losing media access, The problem with Apples Digital media is that when you change region/country (relocating) and want to change your apple account to match, you till lose the access. Similar kind of problem you have with Apple One Family when you life in 2 countries with your family. Or even with your primary language choice.

Do you have a video on your control box with the AI feature?

On air purifiers I have a Levoit Core 600S in my open floor plan that can clean up to 3100+sqft which is great for the family room open concept that has the kitchen and dining room area open to it as well. It’s not native HomeKit but does have a great HomeBridge plugin to expose in the Home app.

My newest tv is a Vizio in the bedroom. Vizio goes out of their way to make it difficult to use without connecting it to internet. They’ve recently dumped so much garbage on the tv that I’ll never buy another Vizio.

Quick question, I have start up that is a members only social dining club and will be building a facility with a workspace lounge, game room in addition to a restaurant, bar and event spaces. Do you have a recommendation for a smart system for door access and other smart products to make it easy for our members to give them access but give us good security. I want to build with as much smart automation as possible. We plan on starting construction in the middle of 2025 so hopefully there will be more products that use both matter and thread to hopefully future proof our automation systems. I really liked this video and subscribed to your channel. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Upgrade was rough with my front door Level Lock +. Took a couple of hours of removing and re-adding to get it even add to HomeKit at all. My back door Level Lock + was easier but neither has worked with Home Key. I removed the front door and re-added it several times with no luck. Figure I need remove both completely and re-add to get Home Key working again but just don't have the desire right now. Glad to know it's not just mine. Locks and notifications are MUCH more responsive. So still worth the upgrade.

Nice to see apple finally pulling their finger out and attempting to catch up with the competition.

Great interview, Andrew! I wish I had seen your tweet earlier-I had so many questions for Tobin. I've been following Matter since the beginning, yet my main concern is fragmentation. While we see companies being certified for the latest version of Matter, we still see platforms and products using older versions. Now, it looks like the struggle is different. Instead of looking for a device with the "Works with Apple Home" logo, we need to worry if the platform itself will support the device due to version differences, even though the Matter logo is on the box. An example of this is the robovacs and the Heiman Thread Smoke Detector. They both have the Matter logo on the box, but when you connect them to Apple Home (or other platforms), you get the "Not Supported" message, just like you mentioned at 52:40 with the Air Purifier. Unfortunately, this has brought more confusion to the space instead of simplifying everything, which is what Matter was aiming to do. I would also love to understand more about the certification process-how difficult it is, whether companies have to repay in full every time an update is necessary, and so on. I've seen Matter-over-Wi-Fi and Matter-over-Thread devices that never received a specification update. They still run Matter 1.0 or Matter 1.1, which could have bugs that were fixed in later versions. I can’t wait for Apple to finally catch up with the spec and update the Apple Home app to support all the new device types! -Faber

Certification is nice. But the big thing is being able to see the actual data. Matter 1.3 has power metering, when can we actually read the power use in the home app.

I can’t seee myself purchasing a TV made by Apple. I already have an Apple TV and I love it. I went from a TiVO to that and I thought I would miss my TiVO but I ended up not missing it at all (with help from Plex). I can’t imagine what value a TV made by Apple would add.

I totally appreciate your review of the new Google TV Streamer. I was hoping you'd comment on the GTV Streamer as a Thread Border Router. I believe border routers are all the "same" so given that, wouldn't it make a cheaper alternative to an Apple TV? My scenario is having a large property where the distance between thread devices is sometimes an issue. I was thinking of installing a GTV Streamer to an Ethernet over Powerline connection in an outbuilding for all the nearby devices. Just curious if you have a thought on that or perhaps an even cheaper border router I could potentially use. Thanks for all your efforts around the vlog!

I still remember how ADT completely abandoned us on SmartThings with their initial push into the SmartHome space…. The ADT SmartThings Home Security and Safety devices (including the Security Hub, Detectors and Alarms) along with the optional 24/7 professional monitoring service from ADT will no longer work. After June 1, 2021, the ADT SmartThings Security Hub will no longer be able to control any Zigbee, Z-Wave, or LAN devices you may have connected to your home security system.

Apple needs to have local voice control for smart home in their "accessory." Home Assistant can do it with tiny little ESPs and raspberry Pi devices. Having local control along with matter of our smart homes when internet is out due to storms or other conditions would be a HUGE incentive to buy.

Question: When I try to add a new device to the Aqara App for some reason the add goes to Home Kit and not to the Aqara App. Do you know how to avoid this from happening?

Hey Andrew, having an issue and need some HomeKit help. I had to remove a home hub from my Apple Home and reinstall it. The problem I’m having is that it is still showing in the home as well as the reinstalled hub, essentially it shows up twice. How do I remove the 2nd hub if it’s in the home, but in use as another device?
