No Zodd did not kill gambino nor did guts kill zodd. You are all mixed up guts killed gambino and gambino was the only father figure guts ever knew but he wanted guts dead all along and even had guts raped. He sees himself as zodd because he killed a kid without hesitation and is in in envisioning himself in that way even though at heart he is not

I honestly need to read Beserk eventually but without context I think that Griffith is pretty much just a person who just desperately wanted to feel someone. He seems similar to a character in a anime called Fate, his name is Kirei Kotomine and he sounds very similar.
