Connor Parsons - My Football Life
Archie and Rory, Paston College
From a young boy in Primary school Connor Parsons had a dream to play football. As he progressed through the Norwich City Academy the life of a professional footballer seemed ever more possible. Then an injury led to 12 months out of the game - and even as this film was being made Connor lost his chance to make the grade with the club he loved. This film by Archie and Rory, media students at Paston College, follows Connor’s life through all these different stages.

Aylsham is one of the prettiest market towns in Norfolk and has so many things going on that you may not get to see unless you live there. So, when a group of students from the UEA decided to visit as part of a Broadcast Journalism course, they were determined to capture some of the essence of the place on film in a series of short films about life in the town.

Through music and writing workshops, visuals and narration a story unfolded of people's lives in Great Yarmouth between 1914 and 1918. The film above is the full performance of R...
Bethel street and Upper St Giles

On the picturesque roads of Bethel Street and Upper St Giles, many historic buildings can be discovered, as well as small independent shops. I wanted to capture the quaint feel of this pretty area of Norwich, using different angles of all of the visually interesting buildings found on this road. This includes the Greenhouse and the Old Skating Rink sign.

We had a toy/sweet shop on Regent Road 1980's. Main Toy Shop was "Playfair" in Gorleston-on-sea. Biggest toy shop in the county. We had all the performing stars come to us! Most lovely were Michael Barrymore, Russ Abbott, Bruce Forcythe & Cannon & Ball! Happy memories!
Literakly my hometown
I'm working at the power station, I'm not from yarmouth but driving around town I can tell by the architecture this was once a very prosperous town
I remember buying a bone handle 6” sheath knife in Pownall’s, must have been 11 or 12. Days when we instinctively knew knives were for whittling not sticking in people. How things have changed.
Unfortunately, Komikku shut down years ago. I'm not sure why. Maybe it was poor sales? The manga in Komikku were generally more expensive than the Waterstones down the street (Waterstones has a loyalty card scheme that made books cheaper, especially for students). The selection of manga in Komikku was also not the best either, only stocking series that were very popular (and thus, were cheaper to find elsewhere). Their DVD selection was also poor (compared to the HMV at the time). If Komikku also sold 2nd hand manga and anime DVDs and also rarer manga, and had more competitive prices, I think they would've survived. Also, the models they sold (which they put too much focus on), were cheap bootlegs that broke easily if accidentally knocked (official anime models are much more sturdier than the bootlegs). As someone who was a regular customer, that's my opinion of why they didn't survive. It's a shame, because there's a American pop store equivalent now in Norwich that's seems to be doing very well. (I don't visit there often, but from what I've seen, they learned from Komikku's mistakes.) So I think a manga store can survive in Norwich. But it needs to be managed better if it wants to survive.
When we holidayed in Great Yarmouth during the early 1980s, I remember a department store about halfway up the road on the left hand side as you go up, before it was pedestrianised. They had a counter selling jokes and tricks - we'd see what they'd got during the week, then buy a load of stuff the day before we went home, ready to prank everyone back home! 😂
Thank you for making & sharing this lovely video! Well done all of you. I enjoyed it so much. ❤ Love from Holland
Let the sideshow begin..
I have heard of The Norfolk Hero. Any idea who it is?
It’s full of immigrants now
Bells?
Found this pottery 1981 when we came to Cromer when I was expecting my son. Still have cat and son , both 42 now.
Me and my kids just spend the weekend in Yarmouth, the weekend just gone, and we went to the Fairground freights at Pleasure Beach
Such a knowledge man
A very interesting film, thanks!
Spent many happy times as a child on holiday in Great Yarmouth, and have lost count how many times I walked down Regent Road and visited the shops with my parents.
Great video Jeff 😃😃
Lovely film. Thanks for sharing.
In the 1960's I was a student working as a bus conductor on the buses in the summer holidays. Almost everyday I would walk under the Fishing Float on Regent Rd, and look in the window, as I was a keen fisherman when I was a teenager. I can't stomach how they have 'modernized' Gt Yarmouth now.
Great days Brings back many memories
You are amazing Jeff. A truly inspiring video. The way you enjoy your swimming is marvellous. I would love to learn from you ❤️

Great uncle Earnest Klack and wives are in the grave yard RIP
Nick and Joyce were good friends of my parents, Lionel and Jean Hampden, also of GT. Yarmouth. Our families holidayed together on Mull with all the children. Marius, Cilla, Nikki, Kyla, and Andy. Nick and Lionel diving in the sea loch for scallops. GT. Yarmouth has changed. It truly was a place of great joy for so many. Nick ever the true gentleman and the charming Joyce. Happy days.
The float outside Pownall's fascinated me as a kid
The most important question - for me - is why would anyone want to erect a huge monument to Nelson on a derelict piece of land half a mile from the city centre. ?? A most bizarre choice of location. Now, this monument sits amongst a selection of decrepid and semi-derelict factorys.
lLoved the vido visited 2004, remeber 4 pubs, diy store ath co op and Church, Nice town, might be worth another update? in HD. Hopefully they have lowered the speed limit in the high st. Thanks for sharing
Are you the same Richard Hammerton who perhaps studied music at Reading Uni with Dr Kent and wrote the music of my short film First Love? If not do you know a musician of the same name?
Watching both this video and this one I’ve linked really gives you a sense of what the town is like. ua-cam.com/video/GA6wLMlva6w/v-deo.html

Peter Collins was the very first cabaret act I accompanied as part of the showband at Vauxhall Holiday Park in Gt Yarmouth, and at Pontins, Pakefield in the late 70s. Then as part of Fresh at The Talk Of East Anglia in Norwich. Great memories!
I loved working at the Talk of East Anglia, in my opinion, they ruined the atmosphere when it was refurbished.
First met Pete at a holiday camp in Hopton where a very green me (I was a council gardener at the time) had to compare them on stage(1977). I did a terrible job, and I think it was the drummer (not sure) who went full-on about them being stars, and they did New Faces, and how dare I did not build them up etc.; Pete was a real gentleman who said no worries doesn't matter we all have to start somewhere, really lovely man. As a finish to this tale, I also did very well on New Faces the following year (1978) and would appear with them at various gigs over the next few years. I worked at Vauxhall Holiday Park for many years, and after the death of Sandy Sandford, I believe Pete took over the job and ran the park entertainment; great memories of a time long gone. Pete, I hope, is still alive and well.
I had no idea Pete took over from Sandy Sandford. Sandy was also at Vauxhall on that very first gig of mine. I also recall adjudicating a talent show at The Tuckswood, probably early 80s, and Peter was also on the panel.
Yummm Hi Tim!! Hope all well X
This isn’t your video
No, it's mine! 😁 Luckily they had permission- I'm very grateful for the exposure and support from my local branch of the BBC. 🙂
I visited Great Yarmouth, a few years ago ignoring the old adage "never go back" I was disappointed in the evening when I visited the Market Square to get some chips and Nicholls, the best of the lot, was missing as it had from Regent Road. Also the shop that sold bloaters and kippers in Regent Road had disappeared. I was also surprised to see that both Wellington and Britannia piers no longer extended over the water and the jetty had disappeared. Then, the Pleasure Beach closed at around 9 o'clock. I remember boat trips out to Scroby sands to see the shipwrecks on both the Eastern Princess and the Brit (or Britannia). only to find they have covered it in wind turbines. I can only think I saw Great Yarmouth at it's best
it's an utter hole. i rotted there for 20 years and it seems you're the only sane person here. well done.
Enjoyable film thank you. One correction - I think that South Denes Power Station was oil-fired rather than coal-fired.
Was the founder of this company Maude the magician who performed in 1970 at Great Yarmouth pier?
Yep -- Maudie Wilkins was the stage name of Jennifer Allen (née Winstanley). She died in 2004. I believe Nick is her son.
@@davepattern830 thank you
Rest in peace Mahmut abi 😢😢🙏🏼
