Hi Sam, i was just thinking of a few video ideas i think might be good for both me and other new/coming back to the game. Maybe a series of videos on the new rules and maybe some ideas for set piece tactics (both defending and attacking)
Which figures to you use?
What are the rules? It looks like every atack ends in s goal.
The touch on that second to last goal 👌🏻
No goal for me at the end of the
What do you use to polish?
I use an Extreme Works polishing cloth with Wobbly Hobby polish.
Are you only allowed to do it in turns? How come there was two turns at the end?
Hi Mark, for every attacking flick, the defender can have a block, however the attacker does not have to wait for the block and can play at the speed they want to. At the end the defender could not make a block without losing concentration on the Goalkeeper and potential shot so gave up his blocks.
What BASE are good for controlling the ball?
I use Extreme Works, which have a good touch. Others I've tried are the CC2 standard Astros. But there are a lot of others. Sometimes a soft touch will mean it's harder to get more powerful shots so there is definitely a middle ground
@ Lovely mate….
Lovely mate…Great & Thank you
How do you raise the ball?
Thanks Sam, I've been watching all these and putting them into practice. I'd love a video on shooting if you could. On the very few occasions I manage to get into a shooting position in a match I seem to either miss or completely sky it! Tips or drills on it would be very welcome.
No problem, I hope the drills have been helping you out! I've got a whole playlist on shooting here: ua-cam.com/play/PL4TMWQWokYuIc-27LVkCR4hXvBgQI6F17.html If there's anything not on there that you need help with then let me know and I'll sort out a video on it Thanks for watching!
@SubbuteowithSam not sure how I missed them lol! Thanks I will check them out.
Nice one Sam, so glad you are back doing your insightful videos, much appreciated, thank you.
Thanks Sam. I struggle to get up the pitch into a shooting position. I'd not considered developing the attack in this way, being patient to move players forward before advancing the ball. Definately one to practice.
Thank you very much Sam! I've been playing for a couple of years now, and I often still feel as a beginner when it comes to goalkeeping, so these are all very useful tips...something I keep hearing from more expert players is the importance of "reading" the direction of the shot by looking at the finger of the attacker before shooting. Is this something you were planning to cover? Is it possible to tell if the opponent's shot will be low or high from his/her fingers? or only the shot direction can be guessed?
Hey Luca, thank you for the comment! Looking at an opponents finger before a shot is definitely something worth doing and I may explore it in a future video as it's something more experienced players do. I myself have only just starting focusing on doing that when playing and there is definitely a learning curve to it. I'm unsure on whether you can detect a chip but you can definitely see direction of travel, which then helps with your positioning with the keeper.
Thank you Sam.
No problem at all, hope it helps!
I’m trying to get subbuteo soon and learn how to play by Christmas, could you tell me some basic rules and/or strategy with a new video? Love the videos!
Thank you for the kind words! I'll definitely look at some beginner guide videos! Feel free to send ideas over and I can add them to my list!
Hey Sam, ontario canada chiming in. i just discovered the game a month ago, currently DIY ing a table, balls coming from UK players coming from ...somewhere ,pitch is here, waiting for the lines to be painted.MDF is here, goals 3D printed. your vids are going to be a big help.
Hey Ian, Thank you for your kind words! I love that you've just discovered the game, there is a great Subbuteo community in Canada and America. Alway happy to take on suggestions for videos, so if there's anything specific you want once you're all set-up then drop me a message or comment and I can look into it!
Nice work Sam. Keep doing what you are doing:-)
Thanks Paul!
Hello Stranger! Good to see you doing videos again... Goalkeeper positioning soon please and thank you.
Great video buddy
Thanks Gerry!
grazie ottimo suggerimento
This is pretty cool👍
Just found this game on yt shorts, glad i found it looks fun🔥
Great series of videos - curious how you get dink on the ball from distance? Is it giving the ‘wobble’ to the player so it chops under the ball on contact?
Thank you, glad you're enjoying them! What I found out recording this was that Longshots were a bit of a lottery. If your player is wobbling in the lead up to the shot then you're unlikely to make a good connection even if you think you've done a clean flick. I found if the base slid without much wobble then you normally got a good dink on the ball. So I now set myself for a clean flick which means having your hand as stable as possible. This normally makes the base slide with better stability giving you a good chance of having a dink on the ball. Still no guarantee though! Hope that helps and makes sense? Cheers, Sam
I wish there were some stickers or decals one could attach to the face of the keeper to make it look like a player.
Fantastic Video Sam!!! Love it!!! Top Work
Thank you Stew! Much appreciated ❤️
Great information, thank you! Do you know if the upcoming Subbuteo World Cup in England will be broadcasted online? Thank you!
Yes! There should be a live stream all day on both days. Follow the ESA on Facebook for updates and links
Ciao io rudy peterschinigg
Tough drill with my Zuego heavyweight players. They don’t really like to run that far, or they lose control and wobble off course.
Really enjoying these. Cheers Sam
Thank you Kevin!
Welcome back Sam, thank you.
Thanks Scott!
tht through ball on the last highlight was sublime! i’ve been wanting to play subbuteo ever since i found out ab its existence but idk where to start lmfaoo i think subbing to ur channel is a good start tho
What a pitch😍😍
That looks really cool.
Brilliant drill. Thanks, Sam 😊
Hi Sam. Really enjoying your videos and putting the training into practice. You mentioned earlier that you use Extreme Works bases. Can I ask which one and also your thoughts on weight. Cheers, Kevin
Hi Kevin! Glad you're enjoying the videos, I currently use Extreme Works Universals, I originally got them over 10 years ago now so couldn't tell you the exact weight but I would say they are probably around the 0.3g range. I think weight is a personal preference and what suits one person may not suit another. For example I have another set of EW universals, however these don't have a weight in and I find that the touch and pushing the ball up the pitch is all good. There are some shooting situations that they don't perform great in as I can flick and not get a chip because I'm hitting the player as I would normally but the lack of weight means the player is going though the air and not sliding because of the power i'm putting in the flick. This is a technique issue and not a weight issue though. If i were to use these as my main base then I would need to re-adjust to then find the right balance of power to achieve what I wanted and get consistent results. So personally, If you're ever unsure on what weight to go I would find a weight that's comfortable and perhaps gives you a good chip and a decent enough touch. The rest is then practice to make that weight work for you.
@@SubbuteowithSam Thank's Sam, that's very good of you to reply. I play at Leicester so I'll ask Mark and Graham if I can borrow an EW Universal team or 2 for a game and also take my micro scales to weigh them. In my limited experience I've found a slightly heavier weight seems to work best for me and admire the height you get on your chip shots. It's interesting what you said about how the base/figure reacts when chipping and has got me thinking of how to do slow motion photography from the side (Graham will probably know). As I've said before, you're doing a great job with these videos and providing so much information in an easy to follow format. Cheers 👍
Hi Sam, thanks for this drill. General question: what bases are you using? And what Ball? Is it top spin? Cheers from Belgium, Steve
Hi Steve, no problem! The bases I currently use are Extreme Works Universal with around 0.3 weight and yes the ball is a top spin ball.
Great win. Reminds me of the England v Iran score
Where do you play your matches?? Can anyone join??
Hey Gary, this was recorded down in Stanway near Colchester. They have regular league meetings if you're nearby. If not then there are clubs all around the country. A full list can be found here: www.englishsubbuteoassociation.com/items-1
Whats that game called?

@@muchiosgracias4 cheers
Congratulations, Whats App do you use for the score?
Heya, I don't use an app sadly, I edit in the score after the match when putting the video together.
@@SubbuteowithSam What edit?
@@manuelreguera5837 When I put the clips from the game together I add in the score manually. I put the match together in an app called UA-cam Create.
Very great dribbling and defending!
Thank you!
very underrated channel!
I suggest that you remove the captions from your video, because youtube already provides captions
Think I'll start playing around with this. I mainly do it at the moment due to the accuracy being better when I generate them.
How i would love to have this kind of Subbteo club here in Belgium.
There's a big Subbuteo scene in Belgium. Have you looked on Facebook for clubs?
Excellent thank you... Please can you do a goalkeeping tutorial, especially from shots from the extreme angles from both the right and left. Thank you in advance.
Thanks Scott! Definitely working on a Goalkeeping tutorial. I want to get some live gameplay samples first then I should be good to put something together!
Excellent, thank you for your tutorials, and thank you in advance for the ones still to come. Please keep up the superb work. Much appreciated. Top man Sam
Well done!👍
Thank you!
Good one Sam
Thanks Kevin!
Hi Sam. Any advice for shooting practice
Hey Kevin, I've got some shooting drills planned. Something that I focus on for shooting is the technique. For me and the bases I have, I've found that pushing down on my finger lightly and then flicking will give me a decent chip and I try to get my finger to follow through in a straight line, a bit like following through on a golf swing. I will put all this in the shooting video so it makes visual sense but hopefully that's something you can takeaway in the meantime.
@@SubbuteowithSam Thanks Sam. I've looked at various videos but there isn't a decent one that goes into the detail so I will look forward to watching yours. I've also noticed your hand/forefinger placement before you flick. That makes your hand look very stable, something I will also try. Cheers
How many times would you suggest doing this drill, I'm struggling to win my solo league match, and any help would do..
I try to do each drill for 10 minutes at a time anymore than that and my concentration drops.
