@@royvisser90 thank you, but this is not what I’m asking. Where did you install the cutout? Is it at the X pipe? Or along the pipes that lead to the mufflers? Do you have one cutout or two?

@nisaja5 alright, they are placed just behind the mufflers. So 2x cutout since it's 2 mufflers. The rest of the exhaust is completely stock. I believe the e39 has 1 muffler

The cluster itself is plug and play, however you will need to code the car into thinking it has a e53 4.6is tacho. You will need to have a TU engine ie facelift

Yes sir, plug and play. If you have a TU engine you need some coding and you have it fully functional.

Correct! They are not OEM but wel made fully functional replicas. I thought it fits the e38 body perfect.

@syxtoaa5 I would start by checking for vacuum leaks. And check if the car gets enough fuel. Maybe you have a clogged injector? If so maybe try jectron from liqui moly. You can just add it in yer gasoline tank

Hello, Is yer car a facelift? Mine is a facelift (1999) and we were able to mod 4.6is software in. The car particularly thinks he is a 4.6is. If you don't have a facelift car yes there are adapters which in not familiar with. Friends of mine know which adapter you will need so I can ask them if needed.

@@royvisser90 Wow! That's a crazy good price man, I'm in Bulgaria, so still Europe, but a genuine M5 cluster costs anywhere between 500€ and 1000€. Usually, we'd just pick an X5is cluster for like 250€. If you can find me one for such a price, I'd be happy to pay for it! :D Also, did you manage to get the oil temperature gauge, and the lights on the RPMs to work properly?

@Ravenous yes that are the prices right now! Yes oil gauge and the leds are working as they should. We had to program software from a x5 e53 4.6is. Also it's important to have the facelift car with the TU engine.

@@royvisser90 I will then be getting the X5 is cluster, because it's quite cheaper than the M5 one, and luckily mine is a 2000 M62TU engine, so hopefully there will be no issues with coding!

Big chance it's the vanos, however this is a v8. To be sure let a specialist listen to it. Do you experience performance loss?

@@hades.664 e38 is fantastic , 1998 740i pre vanos bought it with 62 k on the clock , took it up to 249k without timing chain guides failing , oil changes at 3k helped , miss that car

The car still has the limiter, some say without it can reach 270, others say just a few kilometers. I'm gonna try it next year. On this clip my torque converter slipped and went into limp mode. Sad times but fixed a few years ago.
