"Your not alone in this room" *cue marisha's inner beau as she curls her fists like she is getting ready to smack someone lol*
Cerrit was probably THE PC that Travis wanted. In all 3 campaigns. It seems he wanted to play a Detective type of character.
I love their collective reaction to him closing out the episode realizing they'd have to endure this shit 3 more times and Lou's just like "that's mulligan for you"
For me personally, one of the coolest kills in cr, the simplicity of it and then Brendan comes along and paints a picture that has stuck in my mind to this day!!!
So did Brennan just IMPROV this worldchanginly smart explanation of the Invisibility spell???
never in my life have I wanted to play an inquisitive rouge so much!
Me expecting baron from the baronies to be in the mirror
leading up to the "youre not alone line" you can see Brennan planning this moment so hard you start to wonder how his head didn't just burst into flame.
Yet again I am reminded that this community can be fucking retarded at times. The fact that these mouthbreathers didnt realise that Aabria's character was meant to push the apocalypse into reality says enough about the general intelligence of the morons that watch this show. She did a fantastic job.
Wait wait wait - he let HIS PLAYER roll attack rolls WITH ADVANTAGE against an invisible creature. Even if the creature is DETECTED that attacks are at DISADVANTAGE. And you give you player (impossible) Stealth (without a Hide Action - also against the rules - another rules infraction), then the Advantage would NEGATE the DIsadvantage and the attack roll would be as normal (neither advantage NOR disadvantage). This DM is soooooo bad. Oh and WITHOUT ADVANTAGE there's no Sneak Attack damage. This DM is soooooo bad.
" Even if the creature is DETECTED that attacks are at DISADVANTAGE. " Depends on means of detection. Disadvantage can be cancelled out, and on a 31 roll for a player specifically built in such a way as to detect sneaky mage shit, it's absolutely reasonable to cancel it here, especially as the PC can literally see where the invisible character is. Detection is usually based on sound/smell, which aren't going to give the same level of information. "And you give you player (impossible) Stealth (without a Hide Action". - He isn't stealthing to hide here, He's having the player roll to see if he can draw weapons without being detected. Stealth is an appropriate roll and the DM clearly rolled perception for the NPC and failed the check With an absolutely, completely unsuspecting NPC, who has every reason to think he is safe and who failed a perception check, it's reasonable to grant surprise. Page 195 of player's handbook. This gives advantage, which gives sneak attack. I'd hate to play at your table...you've managed to 1) misinterpret what's actually happening 2) make rule mistakes, which is usually fine but 3)insist you're right 4) turn a very cool scene, handled extremely well by the DM, into a nitpicky, neckbeard rant. Grow up.
@@elphabadota Simple reputable: Nope. Nothing I said was incorrect and you can't change that fact. Facts: 1- There was no Hide Action - So he had no Stealth- Fact. 2- The creature was INVISIBLE so the attack would at a minimum be at Disadvantage even if detected - Fact 3- Even if for whatever random rules breaking reason the DM gave the player Advantage to negate the Disadvantage from Invisibility (without and actual basis in the rules) ... but let's say he did, the two would have just negated and the attack would be as normal... but guess what- normal roll is NOT with advantage - so there were be NO SNEAK ATTACK AS WELL- FACT. All facts. Good day now. Bye now. :)
@@markhammil3148 it legitimately hurts to see someone be this stupid yet this confident. 1) you didn't read or understand what i said. the stealth role was for concealing the weapon draw, not a bonus action hide. 2) invisibility does not guarantee a disadvantage on attacks if detected as per RAW - only if detected via certain methods - not the ones used here. Again, you missed what I said. 3)Given that, the attack would have been made normal. However, advantage was given because of the stealth role for concealing the weapon draw. This makes sense both in a realistic sense and a RAW sense. It's actually really annoying to see someone who is so confidently incorrect. And even if you were correct? Who cares? Narratively, it makes sense, and everyone at the table clearly loved it, along with the audience. You're doing the thing that mediocre, unsuccessful nerds do where they try to tear down something over a technicality but miss the underlying context. In this case, you're also wrong about the technicality. It doesn't matter how many times you say "Fact" if you are not, in fact, correct. The facts just don't care about your feelings here.
@@markhammil3148 You are correct RAW, however RAW are not God. DM has final say, and Brennan's reasoning is pretty solid. He knows exactly where the target is on account of having been able to see where his pupils are (he doesn't have to give advantage to cancel disadvantage, you *can* just remove disadvantage), and he has the drop on the target because said target doesn't know Cerrit's onto him. Perfectly reasonable call.
I can already tell you’re the type of person who turns DND into a DM Vs Player game where you actively try to screw over your players
It looks like a fun session!
Excellent!
Thanks for posting these!
Good session!
Good stuff this will be fun to see how this party forms and grows!
Damn those skulls suck!
Fun session!
Great Ep!
1:15
This is what happens when you break the first, and most important rule in D&D - "Never split the party", lol
Sadly the dungeon did it for us and gave us no way back! Not my favorite way to go, as I think player death should come from our meaningful choices, not just "The module says if they go left they go to the super dungeon death room that characters of their level are very unlikly to survive when split off from thegroup"
Gulp!
Gulp! indeed
Good job!
These sessions are very well done
awesome!
Damn, the party make up is amazing, just taking a look at everything
yeah we have a very diverse group with lots of fun little quirks and interactions!
Fun session!
I can keep watching this piece of genius gaming rp by Laura again and again. Most of the other players are in utter shock and joy of the moment - Taliesin is close to exploding. Travis is looking on in incredulous awe. Sam is smiling in smug satisfaction, clearly in on the trick.
This is the moment that inspired Imogen.
I imagine that even after the magic wears off and the curse leaves the hag, she decides to leave Jester alone as a show of respect and admiration for outfoxing her.
You can tell at 5:33 that Liam KNEW that Laura was just playing dumb and then ar 7:30 the "there it is" moment. Marisha was still shocked in the repercutions of her own deal, the others were clinging on every word but Liam knew she had something up her sleave.
A friend showed me this clip... This clip is the reason why I watched C2, C1, every oneshot, EXU, C3 & play 2 D&D Games myself currently :)
Master class in role play. This is a fantastic example of Dungeons and Dragons.
This is one of the times I wish they had hart rate monitors
We will be doing a Critical Role Dice Bag giveaway at 200 subscribers and every 100 subs after that so remember to like and subscribe to see when the giveaway video goes live.
easily one of the greatest plays any of the cast made, was perfect acting right from the start to lull matt into think he'd won lol
Watching Talesin's life flash before his eyes while not even being a part of this exchange is priceless.
I just love how the whole cast is like "this is not happening" "what is going on" "really Jester, wtf"
they aged Travis by 32 years... No wonder why he be playing old characters..
Just wanted to add loved the journey of Taliesin's face in this whole clip
"you sacrificed a cupcake"
I would love to watch Brennan and Matt play in the same game. Not DM, but play.
Top moment of Critical Role so far
She really should have been the pact of the arch fey warlock like she wanted to.
But she got to teach everyone a lesson don't assume cause you have a cleric in your party you have a healer. 🤣
While I do agree that Erika is a bit more loud than I prefer, I truly hold no ill will towards them. They got excited that they pulled off an evil character and gained character's trust. They are also just naturally more extroverted and loud, which is perfectly fine. If you compare Erika to Acaba, you're projecting your own hatred to happiness. Orion was s*xually inappropriate (like Scanlan was, I understand, but...), and also had some player issues with Marisha directly, and prevented character story with Percy. Erika is just loud, and that's just how they are. Tiberius and Orion stepped on toes, the only thing Erika stepped on was a table. (and if the cast had an issue with that, they definitely talked about it off camera, so...calm down)
Yeah I feel like the emotional manipulation thing with chetney and fearne was really over the line. I get that they’re evil and all that, but it was just so not in the fantasy/dnd vibe, it was so purely modern toxic emotional manipulation that felt really really gross
have you watched campaign 2? because I feel like dusk is an angel compared to the emotionally manipulative characters the mighty nein dealt with
the gang does great at translating evil classic d&d behavior and twisting it with modern toxic behavior. It made me feel gross too, but this has not been the worse character we've had to deal with in that regard.
did you watch ExU Calamity?
I’d recommend having a watch of the 4 sided dive with Erika. They explain their motivations and the collaboration with Matt about the character. It really fits when you know where she was coming from. It’s still definitely makes me feel icky to see the manipulation.
I think Chetney is going to save the day.
Travis willingham has the gift of saying the funniest most perfect in character thing off handedly
I don’t get it?
@@aimeepollock4813 it means he has great wit, humor and timing.
@@bobloerakker7010 I meant the tone deaf comment. I don’t understand that bit.
@@aimeepollock4813 Chet and Fearne had been on-again, off-again flirting, but at this point in the story Fearne's parents are expected back in town, and so the "tone deaf" portion is Chet recognizing that continuing the flirtation this night would be ill-advised at best.
@@chromegaman I think it was also a subtle out of character burn on Dusk trying to get with not one but two members of the group on separate occasions that night.
Man I was so excited to have Erika on! This twist was so awesome. They did such a good job of hiding it behind the excitement. If we didn’t have the scene that showed us behind the curtain I wouldn’t have known. Just remind me to leave twitch chat off next time lol. Let me think for myself.
She was so awesome and when they have guest on they just always become besties with them so it was awesome to have it backfire in such an amazing way.
The moment the guest started screaming was reaaaaally anoying but when she stepped on THE FUCKING TABLE I lost it... worst player since Orion. And that is saying A LOT.
did it not seem like the cast were enjoying themselves? im sorry i dont understand your reasoning, it is visibily obvious when orion gets on the casts nerves but the cast were laughing and smiling so, sorry if you could kindly explain to me. /gen
@@cardboardcreationsart Just look at Travis´ and Sam´s face on episode 26... She yells way too much and way too loud. The cast are pretty trained and wouldn´t like to make a scene about it but being beside someone screaming that loud for so long and stepping on the table cannot be ¨funny¨. Imagine someone stepping on your dining table. While screaming almost into your ear.
@@pascastro9928 well thankfully the cast + erika are pretty good pals and dont take it that harshly
i felt the same, even before reading your comment i was like "oh my god, they are so annoyed of her". EP26 was even worse. You can see in their faces, that they're unconfortable and that they're just smiling out of courtesy. Liams reaction says it all.
i, too, hate it when people get visibly excited about things
Chetney really is just a tiny, werewolf santa claus
