S5E82 The Cars Panorama with Frank Sassano

Wanderlust Wednesday! I caught up with frank Sassano over the weekend and he is here to talk about an album not yet covered in The Rock Cave. We are both huge fans of The Cars but there is 1 album I never owned or really listened to that is a favorite of his and that is 1980's Panorama. The critics had already given mixed reviews to Candy-O and this record was a musical departure from that and ...

Legendary guitarist John Sykes died at age 65 on January 20, 2025. You may not know his name but you know his work if you are a Whitesnake fan in particular. He was a part of a few bands before that, notably Thin Lizzy. S5E80 Breakfast Club Right on Track 1987
Переглядів 34День тому
The band Breakfast Club from New York City formed in 1979 and soon had a drummer named Madonna who quickly had lead singer aspirations and parted ways. (I wonder what ever happened to her?) A new lineup in 1987 had a pretty big hit "Right on Track". That is your song of the day, tune in to hear more. #breakfastclub #rightontrack #songoftheday #sotd #therockcave

INXS frontman Michael Hutchence would have turned 65 years old this week. For those of us who gre up them them, INXS managed to churn out hit after hit from 1982-1997. The first album I owned was The Swing in 1984 and I was hooked. I saw them play at UCONN on 10-31-87 which was amazing as Kick was just released. S5E76 Tesla Debut Mechanical Resonance 1986

Paul Chabot is back in The Cave! In December 1986 a band out of Sacramento called Tesla dropped their debut album in a sea of Glam Metal crowded with heavy hitters like Motley Crue, Ratt, Poison, Whitesnake and Bon Jovi. Quickly labeled as Glam, Tesla were something different. This band had 2 guitarists and near flawless muscianship along with a vocalist with a great range and raspy voice. They...

Rickie Lee... That's my Girl!.... Musical Uniqueness like no other... Have experienced her live a multitude of times and it's always a special treat, as was The Flying Cowboys tour... Saw the Berkeley, CA leg of that tour, which was at my fave mid-large sized venue, Hearst Greek Theatre on the Cal, Berkeley campus... Lyle Lovett and His Large Band opened the show; then Rickie, who opened with this smokin' latin percussion-driven version of War's "Lowrider"... Both Rickie Lee and Lyle's bands finished the evening with a collective jam.... Love "Flying Cowboys", with, if I had to pick one cut as my fave, it would be "Satellites"... My all-time favorite studio album of RLJ's is "The Magazine", but this one's quite special, as well.
