Bunch of bs. This theoretical man didn't expect his children to run to him every day or every weekend, or include him in their every activity, to cook and clean for him etc. He just wanted to be close to his children, to see them more often than he would living far away. There is nothing wrong with it. I live close to my children, and i live absolutely independently. When their kids were younger, it was my kids who asked me to move in with them. Its give and take. Adult children are not responsible for their parents happiness but they are morally obligated to treat parents with at least minimum respect and attention. The bottom line of this story, be independent, dont expect anything from your children and youll be happy! Finе, right? Not so much. If you want to be detouched, dont start a family. Live alone, do your stuff, be independent all you want. Just dont forget. Its your choice: to have or not to have something, and every choice has consequences. If you choose to get married, to have a family, atachment is inevitable, unless all you want is sex, a cook, a housekeeper, a roommate with benefits. For those who dont understand what a healthy atachment is, i recomend you to read The Little Prince, a novella written and illustrated by French writer and military pilot Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. Its an amazing children's book that explains human emotions and relationships inclyding atachments, so everyone could understand. So, go ahead and get attached. But be independent. Good luck everyone. 👍

They left with their last words ,, Don't cry loud and burn your heart you 'll fall sick ..

I am a Buddhist. I did not hear this concept in my Buddhist philosophy. But Buddha said children should help parents who are invalid. That's the bottom line. My children are emphasizing that I should live close to them now that I am getting older even though I am going strong and enjoy my independence. All these depends on the attitude of the children

There is an error in the grammar. You are talking about ONE seeker.. not many. the use of 'they' is very confusing when your are talking about ONE person. Then it occurred to me it might be the new gender confusion and fad about pronouns. Please do to bring current fad and fashion into such timeless teachings. Some things are solid and beyond fads and fashion. There is a singular pronoun and a plural pronoun. It is how the English language works. Lets keep it that ways for something as old a Zen specially.

@ZenPhilosophy1723 Please take my message not as criticism but as a supportive constructive communication. I was going to subscribe but did not because the grammar was so irritating. One voice is equal to many. Because the message is so valuable, I take the care to let you know. Certainly, there are many who share my view. One voice is equal to so many. Many will think it and merely change the channel . I wish you great success . May your message spread far and wide, but fix the grammar first. Please don't play the gender pronoun card. It's the All American temporary fad, a variety of which happens every few years.

I listen to this, but I think it's a bunch of fucking crap! If you look at the extended family versus the nuclear family, none of this makes sense! You have to have attachments in your life or you will be miserable! Not that the attachments should control your life, but I think human beings are social creatures that require them.

You are already what you want to be. You just need to know it. Knowledge, not action. Knowing the self as consciousness, being, limitless. Let go of identification with the body, mind, chi, doer, enjoyer, (ego), and connect the "I" with consciousness, being, limitless... that light of consciousness is you, the world, and God. You are the whole. Advaita Vedanta.

This video prioritizing detachment applies to a family without real love and with interest only in themsleves and their own lives. Families with love as the attachment connection do just fine. And people who place themselves and their spirituality first are beacons of light and love and wisdom for others. What it comes down to is alignment with real self which is love and light, and what is called here attachment is really joy and enjoyment of people aligned within themselves and heart, in love confidence self love and people aligned with others in the same state. Love binds in a natural divine connection and is not called attachment. Attachment stems from neediness not love.
