I sold my John Deere 7200 for a White 6100 planter

Two important lessons I've learned in farming is don't count your yield before it's in the bin and never insult a John Deere guy.... With a bit of hesitation, I will go through why I sold my John Deere 7200 Corn Planter and replaced it with a White 6100 Corn Planter. I should give the disclaimer that I'm not loyal to any color of farm equipment. It's also important to note these planters are bo...

Double Inoculating soybeans with the kids and a cement mixer. Is double inoculant over kill? We find in sandy poor soils sometimes the wet or dry Rhizobia backteria does not respond to the soil like it should and we don't really know why. So due to the minimal expense agronimist been having us double inoculate with both. We replace a portion of the water recipie with the liquid Rhizoba.

Timing your crop for peek Bumble Bee pollination is important for farms that produce Clover and Alfalfa seed. This is step 1 in seed production. To deal with low pollinator populations in the spring the first crop is removed for silage. Did you know one bumble be can pollinate up to 10lbs of clover seed?

How Organic Farms remove weeds from crops planted in rows 30 inches wide. Row cultivating was a common practice before pesticides were available. However, row cultivating is making a small comeback in popularity as conventional farms do this to save money on one chemical application or they do it to control "supper weeds" that can't be killed with chemicals because they have developed an immuni...
What variety of peas were they?
These are 4010 peas. I hear yellow peas do no grow near as long and tend not to lodge so much. Especially the new variety's. This is a pea farmers grow for forage because it is much leafier.
How to do this on a large property?
You also have very sandy soil which makes all the difference in the world, that wouldn't work here in Louisiana clay.

Last year i did a test in my garden and let the weeds go ham, and honestly my yield was no different than all the hours of weeding ive done prior
How tall is the max before you knock the corn down
It depends on the tractor but with this set up I do 2ft all the time and sometimes 30inches.
Even if there was only one $0.50 plastic part to replace, JD would still want $$$ to replace.
Nice planter and tractor. AGCO White did produce an all in one planter in the late 90’s. The model 6800 was introduced in 1995. The 45 bu seed hopper could be set to plant 6 or 8 30 inch rows, 12 or 18 10 inch rows. It could plant corn, soybeans, wheat and other crops. Enjoyed your video. Keep up the good work.
Nice tractor!

Does the clover come back once you've harvested the seed?
Yes it does if it's medium red clover. Some other clovers do not come back. Medium Red Clover will come back every spring for several years. Generally you can get 2 seasons of seed off the crop before the stand starts getting to thin.
I’m at a loss. I’m trying to do too much on a acre alone and I don’t know what I’m gonna do to week my corn and sorghum plots
Do you end up with a lot of erosion doing this
Yes eventually it will erode the soil since your cultivating probably 4 times in a growing season, that is a lot of pressure on the soil
That's why I love western culture farming less work work
Doesn't look like you've done any videos for a couple of years that's too bad, you've got some really nice content and your narration and editing is also pretty good so maybe consider getting your UA-cam channel going again? There are a lot of people like me out there that would appreciate it!

We harvest Medium Red cloverseed in central Ohio. Weve always combined directly without swathing. Being organic the green residue from weeds and the clover just balls up and we lose alot of seed due to this. Does swathing prevent the most seed loss? Also does a swather with a rotary type head (discbine) knock-out too much seed vs a cutter-bar style swather? Nobody around us harvests the seed for any other opinions. Thanks
In Oregon valley where they grow most of the clover seed in the USA they will never straight cut it to my knowledge. You will have issues with the harvest like you are having straight cutting. I'm guessing you are putting more seed out the back in those Green balls than you may realize. I've heard of guys in Wisconsin just letting everything freeze in late fall and than straight cutting it but they are only averaging 150lbs an acre which is significantly less than the guys who swath it late august or early September. You can do a burn down if your not organic. When we swath it the machine has drapers, no augers, no crimpers. Some guys experimenting around on small acres will use a haybine and open up the conditioner all the way and gently blow it through. I would suggest doing it in a heavy dew or light rain. Remember it's ok to get a inch of rain on your swath but at this time of year it's almost impossible for the swath to dry 100% perfect. After 7 or 10 days when it is mostly dry just Combine it and it won't come out as clean but I think you will still get more seed. Most times when the swath is damp you need to run some air on the seed in the gravity boxes or put landscape fabric over your grain bin vented floor and run the air. Clover harvesting is a pain and that's why they do it out west where it sunny with no rain in the summer. In Wisconsin or the midewest we need to break the rules :) you will need to too-
@@redwagonfarms thanks for your advice. We still farm like it's 1950 and I'm ready for a change

Helló in Hungary! Jess cultivator type!?? Jess link cultivator mashine??
any suggestions for Johnson grass? I have 20 acres of it.
If you've got a moldboard plow, plow the hell out of it and bury most of the seed. Otherwise, spray it.

Are you doing Organic Farming? I saw use of Chemicals Potash in between the Rows, how you are managing nutrients during the Crop period.
Yes, we are certified organic in the USA and Canada. Potash is a natural mined rock as well as lime, sulfate, magnesium, boron and the list goes on. Organic farms can use all of these as long as they are in their natural state (not processed) and their soil test shows they are needed. It must be (OMRI) listed. Things we can't use are GMO seed, no pesticide, no herb aside, no synthetic fertilizers (usually nitrogen products like urea). No manure if it's treated with a chemical that is not approved. Our corn fields get about 80 unites of potash, 25 unites of sulfate, 3,000 lb of chicken manure and a plow down of red clover. Boron and lime are added based on soil reports. Generally to grow corn in the usa we spend abot 175.000 per acre just in Fertalizers / Manure. 75.00 in seed per acre. Make a total of 8 passes. 2 row cultivates generally will do the job for weed control. As a rule of thumb if your going to just toss seed in the ground with no fertalizer you will never make any money. Your first year you may get lucky but by year three you will have lost everything.
@@redwagonfarmswhat is the total expense from ploughing before seeding until harvesting?what is the selling price per bushel? What is net profit per acre?
50% of our budget on inputs (nutrients), 20% on leases (land we don't own), 20% on seed, 10% fuel and repairs. New equipment we only buy on years we have excellent growing season and this is considered equity. Profits 300.00 per acre on average year. On a good year we may make over 500.00 per acre profit. On a very bad year we will break even or only make $100.00 per acre profit. Generally, we find organic farming you net about double per acre as you do conventional. You can farm half the land and not have so much large equipment therefore a little less risk of breakdown and needed employees. However, organic farming has its own challenges. When you mess up a field with weed control it may be a total loss for that year or even the following year. You can't always go to the chemistry set to fix the problem you need to use nature against itself. There is a much steeper learning curve and most organic farmers lose a lot of money their first couple of years so don't think the grass is greener on the other side@@destroyedsoul1791
How soon after pollination, when the flower turns dark brown, are the seeds biologically ready to be separated from the plant? I've been picking some wild red clover and throwing the pollinated blooms around my food plot. Can the stem still be green and have viable seed?
Yes the stem can be green but the flowers should be dark brown. On a hot dry day if you rub the brown flower between your hands the seed will come out. If the seed comes out it's viable. the seed will be Yellowish or purple. It is important to remember Red Clover can have "hard seed" Many times 25% of the seed can be of this category. This means the hard seed will only germaniate after it freezes. So if your tossing red clover on the ground and it seems like the stand should be better often it improves in the spring when the hard seed germinates.
What state is this in?
Wisconsin. On sand or sand loam or loam sand soil
What did you get for yield on that field?
100 - 110 bushel per acre. We had a dry spell that was quite significant that probably cost us 10 bu per acre
Awesome info!! 👌
What is your planing population?
8 to 10 lbs of viable seed per acre
I would suggust a 5,000 bushel bin. These are pretty easy to find used. I would suggust only buying a used bin that the company is still in business. We found on ours we needed to order a new bolt kit and a lot of other odds and ends. We spent as much on bolts, vents, new steps and floor supports as we did on the bin itself.
Great video! We have a small farm with 50 acres pasture or riparian and 50 acres transition to organic. The 3 field rotation will likely have red clover for a rest year after winter wheat, and then soybeans. So we’ll have wheat and beans each year. Your experience has got me thinking about finding 2 smaller used bins. Any thoughts on the size I should look for?

flame weed it off. corn below v3-v4 will grow back. have to check my records to see what stage i did last year, but will clean up your corn like you had sprayed it
Flame weed as in use a propane torch implement? What is v3-v4?
I am a soil guy. Cultivating loosens the soil texture and actually reduce drying. It creates a soft soil buffer between the underneath moisture and the dry air. It does cut the plant roots however.
In organic farming they have very little options unfortunately.
Can I use venigar salt and dishwashing as my herbicide in my garden? Is there's no bad effect in veggies even after a week before planting?
@@shirleygawi large amounts of salt will damage the soil in some cases beyond repair.
Looks good I sure miss it
Just sewed my lawn with Red Clover seed. Fascinating to see how it got from field to bag. Thanks for sharing !
Do you use any irrigation for the corn and where are you located ? Good job btw !!
No irrigation.
@@redwagonfarmsdepends only on rain?
You have mentioned in the video some people told you that by this cultivation the soil become dry. Some people should really stop speaking, because it is at elementary agriculture school that by loosen the soil it increase capability to absorb more water from the rain and by loosening the soil it disconnect upper layer of soil from deeper one and that stop evaporation of water from deeper level out of the field. !! So the cultivation and lossening the soil is one of the MAIN agricultural technics to get more water inside the field, not the opposite. Tightening the soil makes it dry, loosening makes it wet. And of course cowdung absorbes huge amount of water, just put more cowdung into the field and NO DRY season will affect you. ! Now we have those unqualified, unexperienced, just theorethical people sitting in the agri offices and passing nonsenses around. I appreacite your video, if one look at back like 20-30 years one can see these technics were commonly used on large scale farms. But then agri schools began to teach just about chemicals and money, So present school farmers are so much in deficit of knowledge.
Great insight
What cleaning house in Minnesota are you sending this to?
Where is your cover crop?
Do you folks get people to put honey bees on your fields while the clover is flowering?
Organic Farming 0 seconds ago These fields did not have bee's on but bee's are ideal and will increase yield. However, honey bee people don't like putting honey bee's on red clover because they say it's hard to get nectar out of plant however they do still pollinate so it does help the farmer but may not largely increase honey. We rely primarily on wild bumble bees but are doing some trials on leaf cutter bee's as they work better than honey bee's (we think) those trials are still in progress. All Clover farms In Canada I'm told use Honey bee's because the climate is not great for natural pollinators. See what the pollination looks like at this link ua-cam.com/video/TnZhHeSuWZI/v-deo.html
I see that you can drive pretty fast without worrying about drifting off the furrows or running the plants over on accident. Im guessing, is it easier for you to drive through the rows because you have skinny tires?
