    43:32 so I purchased from Esty randomiser cards for the faction boards etc. well worth the added $ as there are A couple of combos that are not allowed. So the cards provide this detail. They also stop wear and tear of shuffling the boards, which we did in the past.

    • @table_for_one
      @table_for_one 10 днів тому

      I wonder if I could use the little starting tokens that come with the modular board as randomizers. Can’t recall if they’re double-sided. I would of course need to get the modular boards first, haha

    • @stevegeorge7773
      @stevegeorge7773 10 днів тому

      @@table_for_one personally I think there is enough in the game to not warrant getting the modular board. By the time one gets through Fenris and even the fan variant campaign,,, that is a bucket load of game. But if your a completionist,,, outside of the metal mechs, then totally get it.

  • @stevegeorge7773

    13:17 folded space does a legendary box insert, foam style. Due to all the weight of all the items that go into the big box I’d suggest it to keep the weight down.

    • @stevegeorge7773
      @stevegeorge7773 11 днів тому

      18:03 re the coins, you’ll want to know there is added coin designs that are not in this pack, designed I believe in reference to another game that pastes the Scythe design.

    • @table_for_one
      @table_for_one 10 днів тому

      Good idea on the insert, didn’t think about weight. The extra coins I think are the $2s and the $50s. They are compatible with Expeditions, set in the same universe. The coins aren’t component limited so I don’t think it will affect anything, just more options to make change haha

      @corey3145 It's in a semi-regular rotation--we were just talking about it last night. @falculus7190 Thanks! Typically I purchase premium sleeves from Mayday Games (for no particular reason other than habit and good experiences to date), but in the case of Voidfall sleeves were available with the preorder, so I have Paladin card sleeves: 2 packs of Lamorac (70x110mm) 5 packs of Arthur (45x68mm) They've held up great so far, no issues. I do recall that I used I think every single sleeve in the packs, I don't think there were any leftovers, so be careful not to rip them taking them out of the packaging. =)

    Thanks for the playthrough. I've had this awhile as I enjoyed my couple of games of lux ataerna. I guess I have to just dive in but getting to know the rules and cards a bit more has really helped. Thank you. BTW, I was a bit confused with what happened when you sacrificed the mirror. Could you explain? Cheers again!

    • @table_for_one
      @table_for_one 19 днів тому

      @williamnickeas5788 Lux Aeterna led me to Aleph Null too (in a roundabout way), and I struggled with Aleph Null the first couple times I played it, but then once I understood it better I quite enjoyed it! This copy was borrowed, but I do have it on my list to buy it eventually. As for the mirror at 16:18, the mirror's ability says something to the effect of "the next time a card is sacrificed, instead sacrifice the mirror, copying the effect of the first card." So when I chose to sacrifice the boline to gain 2 magical power, it instead triggered me to sacrifice the mirror (and still gain the 2 magical power), with the boline remaining in play. The catch with the mirror is that after you summon it, it automatically triggers the very next time you sacrifice something--it's required, not a choice--so the timing of when you summon the mirror can be tricky.

    Good playthrough, thanks - you made it look so easy! Another Button Shy I particularly enjoy is Skulls of Sedlec - you would need to get the Monstrance and/or Crown of Bones expansion to play solo though. Teriffic, fun 15mins. There is also a PnP Dig & Write for it you can download that can be played 1-99 which is also enjoyable. Other games I enjoy :Cursed!? (PnP), Targi (PnP Solo Variant), Cascadia - which you'ved done a playthrough for & Trekking Through History with the printable Solo Mode. I'm also a big fan of Jason Glover games: Desolate, Tin Helm, Iron Helm - all games I've made up using PnP Arcade, a local printer company, a laminator, and paper cutter.

I've played each one at least a dozen times now because they're so quick to set up and play. I've come full circle in my understanding of games now. At first I thought, "wow, a whole game with just a deck of cards that fits in your pocket--amazing!" And then I realized that that's every game ever that uses a standard 52 card deck hahaha

    Really enjoyed this playthrough. New to your channel but enjoyed it so far. Little rule help for you. Badlands dont affect the damage done to the land. Only invaders and Dahan: "One time each Action Damages Invaders in a land, increase that Damage by 1 per Badlands. One time each Action Damages Dahan in a land, increase that Damage by 1 per Badlands." A few times you played either to stop it ir took blight as a result of increased badlands damage adding damage to racaging the land. An explore normally doing 1 damage in a land ravages for 1 damage to the land no matter the amount of badlands. If there were say a dahan in that land normally land takes 1 damage and dahan takes 1. If we add 2 badlands to the land. Explore does 3 damage to dahan and 1 damage to land. I think of it as Badlands hurting humans.

    Combat is definitely where I struggle the most-especially if I’m playing solo and my husband isn’t around to confirm that I’m doing it right! 😂 I’d like to get to the point where I can look at the map and instantly assess what I need to win any given combat but when multiple fleet types are involved, it gets confusing to me.

    • @table_for_one
      @table_for_one Місяць тому

      @melandloys I don’t think I can instantly determine a winner for most combat scenarios unless it’s limited to just corvettes and sector defenses, but I am confident enough in the rules that I can always figure it out! Luckily when you play solo/co-op there is no PvP combat, meaning you’ll only have non-corvette fleet types on one side of the battle at most, because the Voidborn can only have corvettes. At least until an expansion comes and throws it all into chaos haha! 🤞😅

    I have a question about the fallen house sector. When you set those up, aren't you supposed to add the sector defenses to that sector as listed at the top of the card? I don't see any installations or a population die on your fallen house sector, so how did you remove those during the game? Sorry if this is a stupid question. I'm still trying to wrap my brain around all the rules!

    • @table_for_one
      @table_for_one Місяць тому

      @melandloys (Whoopsie, looks like my replies to your comments got swapped--I've moved them to the appropriate places now) Treat the Fallen House card itself as "containing" the Sector Defenses in the same way you would any preprinted Installations (like those on the Asteroid Belt sectors). The reasoning is that the tech Combat Replicators allows you to retain Installations after you've invaded a sector, but the Sector Defenses of Fallen Houses are exempt from this tech. This is easier to remember if there are no physical Sector Defenses on the tile. Likewise, when you play solo/co-op and close a Rift, the Sector Defense cannot be retained via Combat Replicators when you flip the tile over; it is pre-printed and simply goes away. Also, as a related reminder, Fallen House sectors are NOT considered Voidborn sectors because they do not contain any Voidborn Fleet Power (they are technically sectors WITHOUT Fleet Power, see the bottom left corner of Page 18 in the Rulebook), so they cannot be the target of effects that, say, place a Sector Defense or Voidborn Fleet Power on an adjacent Voidborn sector.

      @melandloys Oh my gosh I'm sorry, I made a mistake above! I will edit my previous comment. I originally said that you should not place the population die on the Fallen House sector until you invade it. That was incorrect. During setup, DO place a standard (variable) Population die--with a Corruption marker--set to the value indicated on the Fallen House card. This is not explicitly stated anywhere in the booklet that I was able to find, but it was briefly touched on in Paul Grogan's official Voidfall rules video. So sorry! I will correct this with a video soon.

      @@table_for_one I couldn't resist: my husband ordered the fleet tokens and the house card organizers yesterday. Can't wait to get them!!! As far as tutorial requests go, I would love to see you explain the iconography of the "popsicle sticks" as my husband calls them--the ones that explain how approach and salvo works for each type of ship. He gets it, but I still would love someone to actually zoom in on the graphics and explain what they mean by each one with maybe an example of a sector set up with the different types of ships. While the rulebook, glossary, icon descriptions, and compendium all provide great information, I do find it challenging to sometimes to pull it all together in a cohesive way--and it adds so much time to each game shuffling through all those pages and books while trying to play! That's why I'm enjoying your videos so much. You do a great job of making this complex game seem easy and approachable. As an experiential learner, it's much easier for me to get it by watching someone explain it than reading all those manuals. I'd also love to see you go through all 3 phases of the main board (galactic board? not sure what it's called) explaining the iconography. Again, I think I get most of what they're trying to convey but sometimes the icons are confusing. For example, are you supposed to be able to score for completed safe havens as part of Phase C each time? We scored those as they happened, but then I noticed the safe haven icon on the board during Phase C of our last cycle and wasn't sure why it was there (couldn't find anything in any of the printed materials that referenced that, either). Thanks again for really amazing content!

    • @table_for_one
      @table_for_one Місяць тому

      @corey3145 Wow, excellent question! Games with more crunch but less setup (and likely fewer pieces). I'll give you some ideas, but I think they're all inherently going to have a little less brain-burn than those you mentioned, at least in part do to the less complex setup. But here's a go at it! 1- Aeon's End. My friend has this and I've played it 3-4 times. It's a deck builder, mages v. monsters. Because it's mostly card driven, there isn't much in the way of boards, tokens, etc (some, but not a lot). Might be worth looking at. 2- Race For the Galaxy is probably another good candidate. I've only played digitally, and I've never played the solo mode that comes in the "The Gathering Storm" expansion, but I remember thinking it packed a pretty good punch for a reasonable number of cards. 3- Planet Unknown is a polyomino game that I've never played but do have on order, and it might fit the bill. Might be tough to get at the moment, but it should be in stores on a limited basis in the fall (Sep/Oct). 4- Coffee Roaster. This is another that I don't own and haven't played, but I'm interested in it. Seems like it relies heavily on drawing random tokens from a bag, so that seems super easy to setup to me. ***Based on our previous conversation, I can definitely tell you that Anachrony is NOT going to be the quick setup game you're looking for! But I do still expect it's as awesome as those you mentioned =)
