Sondheim - A Little Night Music, VHS Remaster 2020, Act 1 and Intermission
Переглядів 57 тис.4 роки тому
In an attempt to preserve this remarkable staging of Stephen Sondheim's "A Little Night Music" from 7.11.1990, this VHS Audio-Remaster deals with the predominant hiss sound and the rumble in the low frequencies. In the first 15 seconds the rumble/hum sound is still noticeable, but cuts off after this mark. This is Act 1 and the Intermission containing Interviews with Stephen Sondheim, Sally Ann...

What a wonderful production. Glorious singing all around. And Regina Resnik ... sublime as Mme Armfeldt!!!
My highschool drama teacher showed us this recording & I tried looking for it years ago. Thank you for this tutorial 😊
Thank you for this re-re-upload :).
A Masterpiece film for everyone to enjoy.
I so wish this video had closed captions for the hearing impaired, like me. Is there any way to add it? 😢
Should work now...hopefully!
@frederickeggerman Really? You added it? Yes, you did! Thank you, thank you, thank you!! 💋 😘
Much of the score is immensely beautiful, the final few pages from the one-hour mark especially so, and this performance was so well sung.
Thank-you so much for sharing this piece of iconic history. Absolutely one of the finest artists in the business, and a fellow Jew and Canadian <3 Mazel tov <3
Thank you for this!
So, the grandmother just dies... ?
WOW! Many thanks, was hoping to look for this very opera, that overture…
Norman Jewison will be missed. He died 2024.
love this! hello from amsterdam help help help
who is this
If you like the Music of Franz Schmidt (which is extraordinary).....you might enjoy the recent release of the complete symphonies on the Accentus Label: ua-cam.com/video/PKs7wQbKmVI/v-deo.html "... landmark release" "Jonathan Berman, à propos de Franz Schmidt", Jean Pierre Tribot, Crescendo Magazine, Nov 2023 “[…] None of the [previous recordings] has managed to delve with total success into Schmidt's elusive universe, so dependent on the Viennese or Wiener Klangstil sound style......... This is perhaps the most convincing approach to the composer's musical universe. .........This is evident in the vital thrust of the First, the fluidity of the Second's variations, the elegant contrapuntal warp of the Third (the composer's favourite) and the emotional catharsis of the Fourth, to which he adds an exquisite showcases the symphonic richness of the opera Notre Dame.” Scherzo, Pablo L. Rodríguez, 30th November 2023
Could you identify the performers please?
Thanks for showing how the movie was made. One of my favorite movies for sure.
Thank you posting this!
I love how natural every actors were in this film
Where is the series?
Thank you! I have this on VHS somewhere but I'd never get around to digitizing it. I've been hoping to find a recording of this version for ages. Thank you! Thank you!
zu Unrecht vergessenes Meisterwerk
Jewison's negative comments on movie producers and studios is right on the mark. I wonder what he'd say about Disney. // Topol's laudatory comments on Jewison's directorial expertise are wonderful to hear: (40:55) // The marvel of all these segments is that we get to see the final product as a seamless story. True amazing.
It's sheer delight to have access to a full score of this great work after years of depending upon the vocal score.
It's a shame about the cuts in the performance, but this is a work of genius. You cannot really understand Franz Schmidt until you understand this extraordinary work.
The full score, by the way, is a thing of amazing beauty (I had only previously seen the vocal score). I thought the Second Symphony's scoring was complex (and it is), but this is even more so.
Indeed, a true master of his craft, super dense.
Topol was ROBBED at the Oscars. Gene Hackman won for that nasty movie...The French Connection. He's done other work that is far better than that!
Excellent! Awesome. Thank you for sharing this. My respects to director/producer for bringing your gift to us drawing out the deep emotions that are. Bravo!
So, thank you for that.
This is awesome thank you!
Thank you so much for this! This production was absolutely gorgeous. I saw it live on TV in NYC when I was just 25, and it has stayed vivid in my memory all of these years. I'm so happy to have found this!
Franz Schmidt was a genius. This opera contains some of the most extraordinary harmony that you will ever hear and the orchestration is sublime.
Thank you very much for making these score videos! I've been looking for this recording ever since I saw Welzer-Möst's interview on Schmidt
I have never seen the full score of "Fredigundis" before! It is a thing of extraordinary beauty and wonder!
I'm glad you like it - and indeed I totally agree with Neil. It's a marvelous work of contrapuntal beauty.
Best slime I’ve seen in a while! Thanks for the upload!
Thank you very much for this gift... Could you tell me what version it's? Thanks again.
Thank you! This is the only existing recording. It's from 1979, Vienna Musikverein and conducted by Ernst Märzendorfer. You'll find added information in the description :), Best, F.
@@frederickeggerman thanks
Here is the 3rd and last Aufzug: ua-cam.com/video/lrkD7OAdQes/v-deo.html Enjoy! :)
Where on earth did you get the full score to this! I would have given my eye-teeth for one any time in the last 40 years! The orchestration here is outstanding, as is the quality of the music.
Excelente muchas gracias 😁 🥳
Hola no tienes la ópera completa?
Aparecerá pronto. La ópera lleva mucho tiempo, pero viene con una partitura.
Que bueno saberlo, estaré esperándola, muchas gracias 😁
Bravissimo!!! 🎶🌝🎶🌝🎶🌝 Thank you so very much for maintaining this masterpiece - and for your generosity in sharing it with us.
Ah, Bravissimo!!! 🎶 🌝 🎭 🌝 🎶 🌝
Thank you 🙏 for you conscientious care in preserving this treasure!
I saw this in NYC. Once it closed, I worked with Danielle Ferland (Fredricka) at the GAP department store on 34th - until she got a better gig :)
Does anyone know what the Rousseau quotation was. Too fuzzy to read.
Thé greatest version of Liaisons ever sung
The best version of the whole musical !!!
What a talent Sondheim is, brilliant score, beautiful, intelligent, sophisticated, elegant. He will be sorely missed.
Stephen Sondheim passed away the other day and I felt I ought to familiarize myself with another of his works. Though I never knew much about him, for some reason I long felt like we shared some kind of spiritual kinship. Between Hugh Wheeler's book and Sondheim's music, this was definitely a nice piece to take in.
jees the acting is really bad
it really is, fortunately, they CAN sing
My mother recorded this on VHS, and she and I watched it so many times! I am so glad to find this here - thank you! I burned it to DVD the year before she died, but can’t find it. What a gift this is to me! RIP Steven Sondheim.
Rest in peace Stephen Sondheim and thank you for writing such infinitely rewatchable musicals.
“Poor old Fredrik. And it serves him right too.” “….I’m not sure I appreciate that remark dear.” 😂😂😂😂 Wow the woman playing the countess is a QUEEN.
Did Petra's voice crack on 49:05?
What great memories. Thanks so much for putting this online.
