Newlyweds Josiah and Sarah Harder live in Arrow J. Acres in Fort Pierre, South Dakota. Sarah ventured out to South Dakota to help out Josiah collect some cows in Montana, and the rest, as they say, is history. At the end of the day, what they do is simple. They move cows, they set up fences, and they give cows grass. It's good, hard work, and it's meaningful. In Josiah's words, their management...

An eco-buffer runs through it. Way up on the Northern Great Plains of Montana, Anna Jones-Crabtree and Doug Crabtree planted a half mile of trees on their farm, Vilicus Farms. This eco-buffer will help their land become more drought-resistant and provide food and habitat for critters that help their soil thrive. Why plant trees where you could grow crops? Biodiversity, that’s why. It’s one of t...

Following up on our first story of water, Clark Harshbarger takes us along the path of water from Lefthand Valley in Colorado, down to the creek, through the ditches and into our soils. Listen to some of the ethos that guide our Mad! approach to agriculture. . “How do we take just what we need in agriculture and allow enough to flow to those down the way?” This is the continuous question of how...

"Just" is such an interesting word and you don't hear that much in Ag speak. We stop hearing it when they switch the organic program from social justice hippies to "family" farms. Thanks for being the word back I wish you well.
