"Rainwater flowing off the mountain in Orlando, to form the upper St Johns River"........SERIOUSLY??? This guy has his wires all crossed up, because Orlando is WAY FAR to the northwest of the headwaters of the upper St Johns ( the extreme southern end. ) We're talking over 60 miles away, at least. Anyone with half a brain & eyes can look at a map to see what I'm talking about. Hell, the Kissimmee River is much closer to Orlando than the St Johns, which is way to the east of Orlando. I know what I'm talking about, because I've been living here in Melbourne Florida right near the headwaters since 1969........and I still spend a lot of time on this river and it's lakes, false channels, and adjoining marshes & canals. Sure, some of the natural springs to the east of Orlando meander their way to the St Johns, but that's FAR NORTH of the headwaters that he's talking about. You will notice on a map that the true headwaters of the St Johns originates just north of beautiful Blue Cypress lake, which is almost due west of Vero Beach. "Rain off "the mountains" of Orlando forming the headwaters of the St Johns".......good grief man.

Besides the Maple Leaf ship lying at the bottom of the St. Johns river, there are five more ships, all of them being sunk circa 1565 in a battle between the Spanish and French at French Fort Caroline on the St. Johns River said fort was built in 1565, one year before the Spanish built a fort at Saint Augustine. According to eye witness accounts preserved in Spanish and French, one French ship was sunk by cannon fire from the Spanish captured French Fort. Four additional French ships were sunk at the mouth of the St. Johns River by the French, to deny their use by the Spanish. Then the French sailed back to France on two ships. For details google "Mattfeld, Fort Caroline."

Orlando Wetlands Park is where the excess toilet water ends up. It's literally half the flow of the river. Then you have the runoff from the fertilized green yards from the Econ. It gets a little smelly around those parts.

At 5:40, a little snippet of the iconic lady St John's and Annabelle Lee dinner boats that were located in the downtown Jacksonville area for years. After the vessel lady Saint John's sank at the dock, the old paddlewheeler Annabel Lee was sold off.

What a beautiful film. In recent years I have a chance to spend time running the middle section into the navigable reaches by powerboats of the headwaters region to the south. There is no doubt, this is a very special waterway. This film makes me realize it is even more special than I have found during my own explorations of the river.

I know I'm about a year late finding this video, but I am deeply saddened to learn 'ole Joe passed away. I used to go to Blue Cypress Lake to fish for bass quite often, and I always looked forward to talking to Joe & Jeanne. Such good people and Jeanne is 100% RIGHT about this gorgeous natural lake. It really is a gift from God. Blue Cypress is my favorite place in all of Florida. And I like the fact they always protested the paving of the only dirt road going to and from the lake. They knew all too well, if they had paved that road, this lake would've received a drastic increase in traffic & pressure. Blue Cypress Lake is THE example of what natural Florida lakes USED TO LOOK LIKE. It also has the cleanest water in the entire state, and is perhaps the only lake that has NO Hydrilla & milfoil infestation. The slightly elevated salinity of the fresh water wont allow the invasive species of aquatic weeds to grow, yet ALL the native species of plants & trees THRIVE here. But there's one more unique natural feature for this lake, and that is the elevated salinity of this water is just enough to host MANGROVES all around the lake, with some of the mangrove "trees" being quite large. How cool is THAT.........This lake really IS a miracle from our Mighty Creator. ........RIP Joe, I will always remember the good times we had talking fishing & the history of this lake.
