Chip alley rather than chippy lane or simply Caroline street. Was always Tony’s or Dorothy’s nothing else. Unless you were flash with funds and it was charlestons at the end or Taurus around the corner. Steak and chips even during mad cow scare and open through the night. We used to do Taurus around 3am once a month

Always known it as Caroline st
Dorothy's, known to Valley weekend revellers as Dottie's. At least it was so in my youth (I am 76). If I remember correctly, back in my teens (1964) there was only one chippy, Dorothy's, on Caroline Street which was only ever called Caroline Street back then. The other chippies and the nickname Chippy Lane came much later.

This is cool, but I am not sure who it serves. Unless it is for people who need a pizza after local pizza places close. It's expensive for a frozen pizza that you have to cut yourself. A local pizza place will produce a fresh and cheaper pizza. Maybe the rebellion bit it the "pay us lots, cut it yourself" ;)

in 1996-1997 I used to work at Tony's Fish Bar...it had three managers [Nadir, Merza and Rezza] and all of them migrants from Iran. Not sure all three of them still alive or not.

You need a decent microphone guys, I can barely understand a word you are saying when talking at the table. I eat at Golden Pie regularly and would recommend it to anybody in London to come down to for some great traditional pie, eels & mash, Ali the owner is the real deal.
Hi Robert, thanks for watching! As Scott mentioned in the intro we did have some technical issues that lead to audio problems when editing this video, we have transcribed the entire episode in the closed captions in the hopes to clarify some of the more difficult portions. This was filmed quite a while ago now and we had been experiencing issues on other shoots around the same time so we’ve since changed all of our audio gear so that future episodes won’t be effected by the same issues 👍 You’re right about Ali and Golden Pie, a true gem of a shop and shop owner in the Pie n’ Mash scene. At one time all shops used a bowl like that, Cockney's on Portobello Road do. Harrington's in Tooting still do (they also still use Lamb too), both now of modern shop appearance.
Every shop that we’ve been to before ( both on and off the show) have had regular plates so this was a real pleasant surprise ...as I’m sure you noticed on the episode ha! 😅 Interesting to hear that about Cockney’s and Harrington’s as they’re both shops that have been suggested to us a few times that neither of us have visited before.
