    A fair few things for me to clarify here! Just regarding the west side of the board: 7:22 - Austria didn't tell me anything, this was a painful misunderstanding. Cedric had told me that you and Austria had given him an ultimatum and were forcing Ion, which was a really blatant lie. And when Cedric refused to admit that it was a lie, I said that I'd gotten the intel from 'eastern sources' in an attempt to throw some distrust between you and him, but he took that to mean Austria (which I probably should have seen coming). 8:30 - I flipped to Germany's side because Italy was just being impossible to work with. They promised support to Ruhr in Spring, then just went to Ber instead and said 'hey it's all good I'll support you into Mun' when they were obviously just going to bounce me there. They also built F Rom without informing me in advance (fine), then moved to Tus without informing me (very much not fine) all while lying about everything that was happening in the east. 8:39 - I didn't tell Italy I was going to bounce Munich; they offered me support there, but had been lying to me about everything, so I correctly guessed they intended to bounce me instead and let them walk back in. 8:50 - Cedric did know I was going to Lyo! I asked him for a bounce there to make sure his Tus fleet wouldn't do anything annoying. He hated the idea and threatened me with ultimatum after ultimatum about it, but I held firm on this and told him I wanted the bounce there. Maaaybe he was paranoid about Wes+NAf moves? But if so, trying to get him to go to an open Lyo would have been absolute insanity from me given I'd have no builds to defend myself from it (and even if I pushed into Tun, he can maneuver three fleets around it very quickly from that position). 10:53 - I actually think the flip here was anti-balance of power, it completely demolishes England. The balance of power play here was to prop England up and keep it as EF v GR, because then England is taking all the heat and acts as a buffer while I slowly advance. But I had to abandon that strategy because we needed Cedric's assistance to make it work - the German line is firm otherwise - and Cedric was lying about all his moves in the north and slowly pivoting towards me in the south. I think a lot of what was happening in the west got a bit warped as the info went through Italy :p

    I want to thank Andrei for being as fair as he is to me about my play. Mistake were defenitely made by Russia in this game, and burning bridges and lying over and over is very much not my style. I played in an unusual way and it backfired big time when I wanted to go back to my usual style, since at that point Andrei just didn't trust anything I told him. With Stp busy supporting Ska-Nwy and Ukr being tapped by Sev, the only way to take Gal would have been using Ukr as the mover supported by War, which means I would have had to risk either Ukr or Mos to take Gal. And even so, Austria could have retreated to Sil causing me all sorts of headaches

    Okay, this is the thread I point out all the foolish things Ed says about my play:

    • @cedricwilliams8535
      @cedricwilliams8535 2 роки тому

      First, my experimental "Loki opening" completely flies over his head. The idea is that the move to Sil either pisses Russia off so that he goes BAL, or spooks him so that he retreats to Stp, and Germant then takes *both* Den and Swe. The power vacuum causes FE to fight and Hol can be taken later. My mistake was to side with E instead of F, I am biased towards EG as Germany but in this case F would have been the safer choice.

    • @cedricwilliams8535
      @cedricwilliams8535 2 роки тому

      46:45 Ed approves of France self bouncing in Spa instead of making the obvious move to Bur after multiple friendly signals from audacious Germany. England is the obvious common enemy and I liberated Mars from the Italians and gave it back to France at great risk and expense to myself and staying in Mars simply means he cant build, stayig at 2 units though he has 3 centers. Shame on you Riaz for not correcting the ole kook here!

    • @cedricwilliams8535
      @cedricwilliams8535 2 роки тому

      50:20 Still no comment on France's cowardly and short sighted play. He never once moved to the line against England and was up to 4 centers but never got past 2 units. My double support to Bur was in vain, hard to watch.

    • @cedricwilliams8535
      @cedricwilliams8535 2 роки тому

      53:30 I *guess* it's understandable that they are focussed on the bigger powers here, but I was quite proud that I guessed right and managed to retake Kie. I think my scissor move on Ruhr was pretty cool and I was hoping, not without reason, that A and E would bounce in Ber. But Austria paternalistically tried to support me back to Ber, oof! I wanted to end on three and chose to act audaciously rather than be satisfied with a single center holding until the end.

  • @pyxxy_
    @pyxxy_ 2 роки тому

    Pyxxy here! Thank you both for casting the finals! One correction, I didn't win the last Nexus speedboat season (2021 Aug-Sep). This was my first crown! Here are some bonus details on a few of my decisions (if you trust me :P). Game 1 as Austria: - Same page about happily swapping TRI and GRE. I saw the chance and took it - I waived a build in W05, to try and signal peace towards Germany - I also waived a build in W08, which is why I only had to disband one unit in W09 - I signaled MOS -> StP in S08, which is why Russia did it in F08 - F09: moving VEN was a misorder (in addition to me being cheeky). I was debating either VEN hold + surround Turkey by moving to SYR, or retaking CON and moving VEN. I got caught switching from the latter to the former >.< - W09: I disbanded F ION because England had TUN and I was hoping that Italy would build a fleet. And if they built an army, I wanted TYR and SIL around to prevent an English solo, _since England already had TUN_. - F11: I let TRI fall because I wanted F TRI to get popped, to make Italy more comfortable (and since I knew I could recover it in 1912) - F12: Attempting to steal MUN was 100% safe because England had a fleet in BER, not an army. And it made sense to limit the # of people with points, to force more desperation in the second game. Same reason that I didn't support France into TUN. Game 2 as Turkey: - Riaz got my first country wrong, but 100% the right idea. I just needed a decent survival...as the country probably least likely to survive a Nexus speedboat game XD. So I'm just trying to court Italy as hard as possible in 1901, and then when I see that Italy is a bit weird, I try to court Austria for the next...4 years? Basically just playing into "you can't trust that neighbor, yeah if Turkey makes the draw you probably won't win, but 4/7 players just want a score greater than zero in the second game...and allying with Turkey will get you that :)" - W03: Yep the disband of F AEG in F03 was to let myself consider rebuilding it as an army. I decided against it because it felt like it would lock in Austria as an enemy, and I didn't want to flipflop from Austria back to courting Italy. That's too desperate and would basically force me to work with Russia...who I've been giving a miserable game for the first 3 years. Or I have to rely on an erratic Italy who would only have 1 fleet around to help me anyway. Better to rebuild as a fleet, keep making BUL hard to take, keep trying to pry Austria off the default A/I alliance. Which eventually worked! - F05: Austria (TheFlyingBoat) got too cheeky with me :) if you'll believe me, I felt that I had gotten what I wanted, an ally and a shot at making the draw, so I was in it to be the smaller power (as Turkey should in gunboat A/T). But being grateful doesn't mean being foolish :D and then Italy taking TRI instead of bouncing PIE, that got the snowball rolling. France also gets a thank you card for keeping Italy busy for so many years ;) - S08/F08: Accurate analysis of signaling Russia into RUM and then denying it. There's no downside to signaling. Even if Russia moves there, I can probably retake it. And at the time, I saw SEV -> ARM as the biggest risk to my board top. The only other way to stop me was Italy taking ION in S09, and Russia _keeping BER_ past 1909. This is why I played waiting moves in 1909. I had great position, I just need Russia to lose one more army. - In Winter 1910, I planned the last two years. I figured that I would have time to eliminate Russia or Austria, but not both. Given the 15 points differential from Game 1 (I opened the scoring calculator up in another tab and looked it up), taking out Russia would probably put me on 10 centers, hopefully tied with France. Then I just needed to get Austria down to 2 somehow and I would be > 15 points more Austria in this Game 2. Austria, Russia, and Turkey are probably the three least popular countries in gunboat/speedboat? And the finals used a modified Paris draft, so I figured that the 3 players that got scores greater than zero in Game 1 (myself included) would probably be these 3 countries, A/R/T. So if I kill off Russia and give them a zero, then I just needed to secure the > 15 point differential on Austria (and I was Turkey ofc), and that felt like giving myself the best odds of winning the finals. I wasn't right at all about who was who, and I got an extra center of Austria to give myself the solo board top...but it's the thought that counts, right? Once again, ggs to all the other finalists. Finals games just hit different than regular speedboat. So much fun ;)

    • @cedricwilliams8535
      @cedricwilliams8535 2 роки тому

      You're right about finals speedy hitting different, was a blast. Really interesting to read your notes, I totally missed your waived build in W05! Your victory was well deserved, heartfelt congrats. Hard to argue with success but I do wonder if sticking with me (Germany) in game 1 would have netted you bigger gains as I'd shown myself to be very generous and the only center you got out of moving against me was Warsaw. If we'd rolled together I could have balanced England out. What was your thought process there champ, AR fetishism?
